Day 5 | This heart-shaped bulla (950-800 BC) is a very rare object - 1 of only 7 found in Ireland. Measuring 2x3 cm, the maker was able to work on a miniature scale. It's likely to have been worn around the neck like a locket or charm.

October's birthstone is the beautiful opal. It's made of microscopic silica spheres that scatter light to create the wonderful array colours seen here. Most ‘precious opal’ is from Australia, but white opal can be found in the basalts of north Antrim.
This anti-slavery halfpenny token, issued by the Society for the Suppression of the Slave Trade, is inscribed ‘Am I not a man and a brother’. In the late 1700s anti-slavery campaigners strongly opposed the suggestion to form a Belfast slave shipping company.
