Police Staff Scotland opposes fascism and racism in all of its forms. We condemn the unacceptable behaviour we have witnessed in Glasgow's George Square, and other towns and cities recently.
With the lack of action on our Pay Claim 2024/25, we are not going to stand by and let the all too familiar tactic of stretching out pay negotiations until you receive an offer at Christmas.
We will now prepare for a consultative ballot of members

officers putting themselves in the way of danger. As our Federation colleagues say, “A job like no other.” Our thoughts with those all those affected by these devastating events.
We support the Campaign for Freedom of Information in Scotland's new Get it Minuted campaign. Join in! Insist that Scottish Government meetings should be recorded. The public has a right to access information
#FOI
Our pay claim of 8.5% for colleagues is fair and just. We cannot help observing that money for pay was found for other groups of workers, teachers, fire fighters, nurses and doctors.
#NoStrikeFairPay
Our colleagues in blue can't strike but still deserve fair pay. Police staff CAN strike and need a pay deal so that they don't feel they NEED to
#payupforthepolis
Today we launch our
#NoStrikeFairPay
campaign. A number of off-duty police officers with placards will gather outside a Scottish Police Authority meeting at the COSLA offices in Edinburgh. More similar events are planned. More info here
UNISON is expecting to have a full formal offer on pay by Wednesday.
Your branch executive will meet on Thursday to discuss the UNISON position and communicate it to you as soon as possible.
You will hear from me on this by the end of the week
David Malcolm
Branch Secretary
Branch representatives had their first meeting with

Pokice Scotland ran on 1.3 million hours of over time from 1st April 2022 to 31st March 2023. 170k of those hours were done by our staff members. There’s not enough people and Scottish Govenrment expects us to find “efficencies”

No one should go to work and not come home safe and well. It truly is a job like no other. Every one of us hopes for a speedy recovery for our colleagues

. The capital has treated us well, our bonds of solidarity are reaffirmed, safe home and enjoy your weekend. Back to the fight for us all ✊✊✊✊✊✊✊✊✊✊✊✊✊
Today the UNISON Team had to record a “Failure to Meaningfully Consult” on a restructure the employer seems “desperate” to implement! A very serious attack on Industrial Relations webwill now need to reflect on next steps and impact for members. Stronger together in UNISON ✊
A formal offer on pay has been received from the Scottish Police Authority. There are a few points of clarity to be sorted out. The branch executive will meet tomorrow and I will communicate it to you soon, along with our position, soon after.
David Malcolm
Branch Secretary
The UNISON branch is becoming increasingly concerned about the lack of consultation by Police Scotland - the treatment of and disrespect of our members and due process is not something we will continue to tolerate!
UNISON Police Staff Scotland warmly welcomes the appointment of Scotlands first female Chief Constable. Having met through the stakeholder engagement panels we are encouraged by the possibilities the new Chief envisions for staff
A motion was passed by majority vote at

condemning the action of the NEC on behalf of the Police & Justice sector. Read more at the blog below.
Unison members need to read this account of the NEC meeting on the 6th October.
make your voices heard .
We should be proud of our achievements let's not go backwards .National Delegate Conference is the place to discuss rule changes.
UNISON has agreed to pay members taking strike action £50 per day in strike pay (or full take home pay if this is less) from day one of any properly authorised strike action
A call is taken every ten seconds by our police staff members. It's an astounding statistic showing how police staff continue to make the service work
#staffaretheservice
Another day another Failure To Consult. UNISON will not allow the staff JNCC to be treated as a tick box exercise and will not return to the forum until we can see real change with our member's jobs and wellbeing as a priority on the agenda.
It is not up to the police to advise on the closure of your business or workplace. Apply common sense and please leave these lines available for emergency calls.
⛔️We are receiving calls from businesses regarding the early closure of workplaces. Pls do not call 101 for advice but follow guidance issued by police and partners, including
@metoffice
on the impact of the weather warnings. Our phonelines are busy with priority calls. ⛔️
Today, there will be an internal communication published on the SPA/Police Scotland intranet site about the officer and staff pay claims. It won't say much and the question remains...
There is a lot of talk on integrating
@BTPScotland
but we haven’t integrated all the leagcy police forces and agencies through harmonisation yet have we?
As Police Officers our job is to rush to your aid, and keep you safe.
We don’t expect to be abused, insulted or threatened, that is
#NotPartOfTheJob
.
Aggression, threatening behaviour or verbal abuse towards us, is an offence and may result in your arrest.
Positive meeting with the Director of People & Development of Police Scotland on how we get back to the engagement we expect and that our members deserve
#wearepolicestaff
The SPA now wishes to revise the pay offer after talks with Scottish Government in hopes of avoiding a dispute and asked UNISON to attend pay negotiations as soon as next week. We will hold off on the consultative ballot pending these talks.
With the announcement of police officer pay in England and Wales, you would expect movement from the SPA/Police Scotland but the employer's proposed communications says nothing in almost as few words.
Our message is clear. We need urgent and substantial action on our pay claim.*
The medical model tries to fix disabled people. It is not disabled people that need to be fixed it’s society; need to remove barriers in a world set up for people without disabilities
#upjc22
How long can the government keep short changing the service and our members? Staff finally seeing one set of terms and conditions, pay and grading and now an additional pressure for increased officer numbers comes our way. We know how this has been paid for in the past...
Iain Young, a service advisor in Govan, dealt with a call involving a male threatening suicide after having climbed onto a building. Iain negotiated with the male & assisted in getting police officers to the male. He receives an award for Making a Difference & Above and Beyond.
There is growing evidence that due to Police Scotland staff working unpaid overtime, not being able to take back toil and annual leave being refused the employer may not be meeting minimum wage levels...
UNISON has submitted this years pay claim to the employer. Details being sent out to members tonight. The only way to have your say on pay is to join TODAY
#wearepolicestaff
Just look at these numbers. That’s a call to Glasgow police every two minutes every hour over the weekend received by service centre police staff. Our cops & police staff do a fantastic job keeping people safe and helping those in need. They meet demand and expectation.
Part of reform activity is integrating systems and harmonising terms and conditions. What this means:
@policescotland
IT systems don’t talk to each other properly, all members of staff are still on their legacy force T&Cs and salaries after five years
#SPABoard
Held the first branch meeting of the 2023/24 team today confirming your executive and stewards for the coming year. Lots of work ahead in the fight for police staff members
#wearepolicestaff
It is a pay ballot NOT a strike ballot
Branch recommendation is REJECT the pay offer and vote YES to industrial action
This gives the branch a mandate to go back for an IMPROVED offer
Get VOTING ✊✊✊✊
@PSOSCollege
@SPRASocial
I often wonder if a trade union input would help officers, though they can't join UNISON, to understand the staff role in policing which could reduce the number of issues we have over employment rights by our future leaders
#wearepolicestaff
Members will have been expecting to hear from UNISON this week with details of our consultative ballot on the police staff pay offer for 2022/23. Unfortunately UNISONs membership system is experiencing network issues at the momen and is unavailable to send mass emails to members.
The Contact Assessment Model (CAM) brings back a lot of the decision making ability eroded away over the years by organisational change. Staff want to feel empowered and supported to make the right decisions to help the public.
Just had an encouraging meeting about the People Management Programme, helping our members do a better job for themselves and for their staff. There's a need amongst our members who are keen to take part as it is piloted
#wearepolicestaff
While no one would dismiss the seriousness and impact on individuals and their families when there is an error our members have taken almost 3.5 million calls over 16 months and the greatest majority of them successfully
#staffaretheservice
We need more activists, more disabled anctivists, and we need to take time to consider disability issues among our day to day “firefighting”. Day Two of
#upjc22
begins
We hear your concerns and feel the employer can go further to ensure safe working practices, social distancing, identifying key roles and communicating this clearly to you, their staff.
We will send a further update as soon after this meeting as is possible. 2/2
Another day, another disciplinary letter that doesn't set out why there is to be a disciplinary investigation. When will the employer learn the rules? Don't be played join UNISON STRONGER IN UNISON
#wearepolicestaff
A casework-focused day today as reps worked on outstanding appeals against dismissal which the employer has failed to action timeously, rejecting letters for disciplinary investigations that are unsuitable and challenging discrimination
#wearepolicestaff
At today’s JNCC we took the difficult decision to not continue with the meeting. We have been expressing our concerns for some time as the JNCC has become a means to conduct the employer’s transactional business, via a tick box approach to the detriment of Police Staff.
"No further action", is a fantastic phrase to hear and there's a Police Staff branch secretary very proud of their stewards work today. Join a union folks.
