Workers at

, demand that
@nyuniversity
ensure our workplace safety and academic freedom and respect the right of students and workers to protest:
You heard it here first: We have countersigned a tentative agreement and the strike is ending.
Stay tuned for the official joint statement from part-time faculty and New School management.
We look forward to returning to our students.
AND NOW WE STRIKE!
See you on the picket line tomorrow (Wednesday 11/16) in front of The New School University Center (63 5th Ave, NY, NY)
Morning - 8:30am -12:30pm
Evening - 3:30pm - 7:30pm
We have received The New School's offer for consideration. We are reviewing it carefully now.
Our strike will continue while we review the offer and consult our membership.
Hold tight. We look forward to making a deal.
Students picketing along with part-time faculty outside The New School.
Part-time faculty working conditions are their learning conditions.
No more unpaid labor. We demand fair wages for our time and expertise.
Good morning
We have been working since 7 am continuing to review management's proposal, making sure there aren't new clerical errors or loopholes
Our mediator has been back and forth with us since 9 am
We urgently want to make a deal but will not be rushed into a bad one
@TheNewSchool
We are happy to grade our own students when we get a fair deal. We actually know them and their work.
Save the money allocated for paying the scabs and bring it to the table.
“We are all in the same struggle together”
“Remind them every time who has the power”
“Shut it down”
Thank you
@Shut_downAmazon
for joining us today on the picket line at The New School, where part-time faculty are on strike and fighting for a fair contract.
With a strike threat looming and our contract expired, NYU adjuncts reached a tentative agreement with the university after fourteen hours of marathon bargaining early this morning.

are on strike until we get:
1. Affordable, reliable health insurance
2. Pay that accounts for out-of-class work & inflation
3. Real recourse against discrimination & harassment
4. Job security & an end to a vicious cycle of precarity
It's URGENT!
The New School’s negotiation team has claimed impasse. Signaling an end to negotiations
We welcome returning to the table with a mediator, but both parties have to be willing to move for mediation to work
This forces our membership into a ratification vote next week
Vote no
NO IF ANDS OR BUTS
We need an AGREEMENT not an IMPOSITION
Management’s most recent “last, best, final” offer is not an “extraordinary step” of generosity
The extraordinary step is the work of PTF and our allies on the picket line and at the bargaining table

The TA will now become the new collective bargaining agreement outlining the terms and conditions of our employment
We currently have 419 New School part-time faculty union members in a Zoom room to share updates and concerns. And to discuss next steps.
This is transparency. This is community. This is democracy.
This takes time.

Contract negotiations between the university and the part-time faculty union have continued today with the help of a mediator. Negotiations will resume tonight at 9:30 PM.
We are challenging The New School management's violation of Federal Labor Law
The University’s negotiation team violated federal labor law in two different ways:
1. Bad faith
2. Interference and coercion
Full statement:
Our struggle at The New School is part of a larger movement across the country
It’s about more than a pay raise
We need a paradigm shift
R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Our working conditions are students’ learning conditions
Our democracy needs an educated public
Those are the stakes
The management's bargaining team came back at 5:45 pm today with no real counters to our last supposal.
We were scheduled for 5 pm.
They are pushing us to bargain with ourselves. We will not be trapped like that.
But don't tell us we don't have a sense of urgency.
The support and solidarity of our students gives us strength
Our working conditions are their learning conditions
Part-time faculty at The New School continue our strike today for fair wages and working conditions.
We return to contract negotiations with the university at noon

Our bargaining team worked until 4 am and reconvened at 8 am this morning to finish our latest supposal to management
Management has heard our supposal and will get back to us.
We have mediation scheduled for tomorrow as well
Meanwhile, the strike and picketing continue
Management is feuding w/ the chair of the university's own economics department on Twitter.
The takeaway: "we value our faculty's expertise & research, except when they research our own financials." 🤔
Propaganda works by sowing doubt.
Real arguments require transparent data.
Our bargaining committee is still cracking away at 4 am on our next counter to New School management. There are nearly 50 people still in this Zoom.
Nobody knows urgency like the people whose livelihoods will be most directly affected by our next contract.
New School part-time faculty are paid by the “contact hour” of in-class teaching.
Other tasks are unpaid: syllabus and lecture prep, faculty meetings, office hours, grading, etc. When you factor in those tasks, some of our members are making minimum wage or less for their work.
“Grateful for our amazing part-timer bargaining team”
“Grateful for our students’ solidarity”
“No more unpaid labor”

We are disturbed and saddened to learn about the violent threats made to New School staff and their families.
We condemn these threats. They have no place in our movement for a more just university. We have to come together in peaceful solidarity and healing to move forward.
On 11/16, New School administrators said they “believe strongly that a mediator’s support can help resolve negotiations quickly.”
We were and are still open to mediation.
But tonight they delivered a “last best final” offer and walked away from bargaining unilaterally. 🤷🏻♂️
Good morning! New School Part-Time Faculty are returning to the bargaining table at 10 am.
It's a beautiful day to show the university’s negotiators just how ferociously ready to strike we are.
Strike deadline:
Tonight (11/15) at midnight (strike would start Wednesday AM)
Heeding the democratic will of 1,821 part-time faculty, The New School’s team has agreed to return to the bargaining table and work towards a fairer deal.
The bargaining committee and university team will resume negotiations this afternoon with the help of a mediator.
Are you contingent faculty teaching in NYC? Pledge to not take any potential strike replacement positions as our siblings across the city bargain for their contracts!

2. McBride has never faced us directly at the table.

We know “contact hours” do not account for all of our teaching work
We know a 7% pay raise during record inflation means we would earn less in real $$ than we did in 2018
We know giving management the power to unilaterally change health plans & premiums leaves us unprotected
The New School informed PTF that they would sign a Memorandum of Agreement on 12/24. This would conclude our consolidation process and allow members to proceed with the ratification vote at the end of December. We have already signed it and are still waiting on management.
"
@TheNewSchool
has not issued part-time profs a raise in 4 years; given sky-high inflation, the union calculates that these workers’ real income is 18% lower than it was in 2018. The profs are asking for a 10% raise now and 5% annual raises in the future."

Our bargaining committee representing PTF at The New School is convening now to finalize our counter proposals
We return to the bargaining table with the university’s team this afternoon
We will stay strong in fighting for a fair deal and to continue our strike if necessary
Our bargaining team provided the university's team with proposals & "supposals" (an actual technical term in mediation) as directed by the mediator yesterday. Stop moving goalposts. We can only give "financially responsible" counters if there is actual budget transparency.
Sunday, 11/20 is day 5 of the New School part-time faculty strike

20% over 5 years
Part-time faculty haven't had a raise since 2018. Inflation has been 18% between 2018 and today
The offer of a 7% pay raise in the first year still has in earning less in real inflation-adjusted wages
We love our students + want to make The New School better
We are rocking the boat to make our voices heard
But university leaders seem to be sinking the ship w/ their union-busting tactics: turning their backs on our social justice values and tarnishing our progressive legacy
We just learned about the unexpected death of a New School student living in a university dorm over the weekend
To our students:
PLEASE feel free to cross the picket lines this week to access Student Health Services to get the mental and physical care you need
P.S. we miss you

12/9: Mediation Update
The bargaining committee and University are very close to an agreement
The committee met with the University from 9am to 12:30pm today and is scheduled to resume mediation tomorrow at 3pm
New School part-time faculty are committed to dialog and democracy
The university's "last, best, and final" offer sows division, rushes the process and hides potential harm
Critical update on what happened & what's at stake:
As a result of the New School’s repeated delays and, frankly, cruel and insulting counter-proposals, the Part-Time Faculty are taking a strike authorization vote.
It's critical that you vote! The bargaining team urges you to vote ‘YES’.

The university sent out the president’s email literally immediately after we heard their offer verbally in a Zoom room. It is NOT a fait accompli. They wanted to get ahead of the story.
We are literally still working to understand the proposal and consulting our membership rn
"NYU is Union-Busting in Sweeping Effort to Renege on Landmark Contract
There is no academic rationale for this aggressive managerial action. In no way does it serve the university’s educational mission or the interests of its individual programs and students."

This is why our struggles are interconnected. The contexts are different, but similar patterns persist.
The New School has a different high-priced law firm, Akerman. And we were also offered insulting wage increases below inflation.

I fear that NYT publisher AG Sulzberger is getting very bad advice from the NYT's high-priced lawyers at Proskauer. It's hurting his image, the Times' image & worker morale
