Aloha, Jan. 2, 2021 is the last full day of the 116th Congress and this account will no longer be updated following Rep. Tulsi Gabbard’s retirement. -Office of U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard
Today I introduced the Break Up Big Tech Act with
@RepGosar
to remove
#Sec230
immunity for tech companies who act like publishers, censoring and manipulating users, treating us and our attention like products to make their billions.
Instead, we must act swiftly to provide a temporary universal basic payment of $1,000 per month to every American adult to help them weather the storm created by this crisis. Taking care of all Americans will stimulate our economy during this downturn.
Today, I introduced a resolution that provides for a universal basic payment to help Americans across the country weather the storm caused by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
HAWAII - THIS IS A FALSE ALARM. THERE IS NO INCOMING MISSILE. THE ALERT WAS SENT OUT INADVERENTLY. I HAVE SPOKEN TO HAWAII OFFICIALS AND CONFIRMED THERE IS NO THREAT.
Anti-social media companies treat us like products, exploiting & dehumanizing us for profit, without regard for consequences. Our bipartisan bill returns power to the people, letting us decide whether to be subject to companies' manipulative algorithms.
Instead of wasting billions of dollars on regime-change wars, we can invest some of that Peace Dividend to end homelessness across America. HI has one of the highest rates of homelessness per capita. That is why we
@FSCDems
passed H.R.1856, the Ending Homelessness Act out of cmte
Based on our country’s continued counterproductive regime-change war policies, it's clear that leaders on both sides of the aisle haven't learned the painful lessons of decades of interventionist regime-change wars most recently in Iraq, Libya & now Syria.
Diwali is celebrated by millions of people around the world, and represents a special time for spiritual renewal. The Festival of Lights celebrates the triumph of good over evil, love over hate & truth over lies, serving as a powerful reminder to us all during this critical time.
While Trump/Pence gave speeches honoring the victims of 9/11 two days ago, they are simultaneously protecting al-Qaeda and other jihadist forces in Syria; threatening Russia, Syria, and Iran with US military force if they dare attack these terrorists.
Today’s arrest & indictment of Julian Assange sets a dangerous precedent of criminal prosecution of journalists who publish info the govt doesn’t like & opens the door for other countries to extradite US journalists who publish their country’s secrets.
On this solemn day, we remember those who paid the ultimate price and those who answered the call to serve in the years that followed. More than 320,000 gave their lives in World War II. May we never forget what happened at Pearl Harbor and the sacrifices of all who served.
Tonight, I voted to pass the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, this emergency funding package will begin to provide relief to working Americans and their families across the country so they can focus on their health and well-being.
Today, I introduced 3 bills to help improve mental healthcare for veterans.
My brothers and sisters in uniform serve in some of the most extreme conditions at home and around the world.
For years, I have pushed for paper ballots to ensure our elections are secure. In this coronavirus pandemic, it’s even more important that we quickly transition to a mail-in paper ballot, which would allow more people to vote & protect their health & the security of their vote.
I urge Congress to pass H.Res.411, the No More Presidential Wars resolution, to restore Constitutional balance and ensure Congress fulfills its responsibility to determine whether or not to declare war.
Today, I voted to pass legislation that would prevent the U.S. from going to war with Iran without Congressional authorization, as well as repeal the 2002 Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) in Iraq.
Last night, House Republicans voted to block a vote on a bill to end US support for Saudi Arabia’s genocidal war in
#Yemen
. Today, all Members of Congress must do the right thing and VOTE NO on H.Res.1142 so that we can debate & vote on this critical issue
Yesterday, I introduced H.Res.662, a resolution that calls on the Federal Government to declassify and release information regarding the September 11, 2001 attacks in order to ensure a full public understanding of what happened and who was involved.
No president should have the power to violate our freedoms & civil liberties by tripping an Internet kill switch. Our bill prevents any president from using unchecked emergency powers to limit access to the Internet & undermine our Constitutional freedoms.
My thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of the victims of the terrorist attack in Kashmir today. We must stand together to defeat these jihadists and their ideology.
I’ve introduced a resolution that prioritizes people so our economic relief is placed directly into the hands of every American, rather than getting stuck in bureaucracy or ending up in the pockets of big corporations.
The United States’ support for
#Saudi
Arabia’s genocidal war in
#Yemen
, with no authorization from Congress, has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of Yemeni civilians.
Sending my aloha and well wishes to the victims of today’s shooting at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. Our gratitude goes out to the first responders who took action to secure the base and keep people safe.
It was a powerful moment on the House Floor today as we paid tribute to Rep. Cummings whose resonating voice earned the respect of colleagues from both sides of the aisle. He was compassionate & determined to bring us together to do better for one another. He will be missed.
Today, the Senate is taking an important vote, and I urge my Senate colleagues to hear the pleas of the Yemeni people who are begging for their lives. Vote today to end the unconstitutional U.S. support of Saudi Arabia’s genocidal war.
Trump’s action will drag us deeper into war with Iran that will be far more costly and devastating than the wars in Iraq, Syria or Afghanistan. We must get our troops out of Iraq and Syria now.
Today, I voted to end U.S. support for Saudi Arabia’s war in
#Yemen
, which Congress has not authorized, and which has created a humanitarian crisis of epic proportion!
Today
@repdonyoung
and I introduced the only bipartisan legislation in Congress that reschedules marijuana thereby ending the federal prohibition. This is long overdue. We must end the failed War on Drugs before we lose another generation to this war.
This court ruling reaffirms every American’s right to privacy. Flagrant government overreach through this NSA program and others show that we cannot stand idly by as our freedoms are undermined. We must stand vigilant and fight for those freedoms.
Today, the House Judiciary Committee voted to pass H.R.3884, the Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Expungement (MORE) Act, which I introduced with Chair Jerry Nadler (NY-10). The bill passed with a bipartisan vote, 24-10, and now awaits consideration by the full House.
For too long, the US has supported Saudi Arabia, turning a blind eye to the horrifying atrocities committed against millions of Yemeni civilians since the start of this genocidal war in 2015.
The coronavirus pandemic has created a threat to the health and well-being of the American people, as well as to our country’s economic stability. While some in Washington are focused on taking care of Wall Street, everyday Americans get left behind. That’s wrong.
The strength of our democracy lies in the integrity of our elections and no one should get between a voter and the ballot box. I introduced a bipartisan bill to improve the security of the mail-in ballot process and prevent ballot harvesting.
I'm urging my colleagues to VOTE NO on H.Res.1142 so that we can debate and vote on our legislation that would bring an end to ALL US support for Saudi Arabia's genocidal war in
#Yemen
now.
This is a complete betrayal of the American people, those we lost on 9/11, my brothers and sisters in uniform we’ve lost since, and their families. Every Member of Congress must condemn the President for protecting al-Qaeda.
Despite the darkness and hatred that took her husband’s life, Sunayana continues to be a shining light for immigrants by sharing her powerful story w/ love, positivity, & Aloha.
Over 5.6 million refugees from
#Syria
have been forced to flee their homes. On
#WorldRefugeeDay
, we must address the causes driving people from their homes, and end ongoing US regime change wars around the world that have caused grave devastation, death, suffering, & refugees.
US support for Saudi Arabia’s genocidal war in Yemen continues — even though it is not authorized by Congress and has led to the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. Shame.
As we reflect on all that we have to be grateful for, let’s take the opportunity to share our aloha with others, help those in need, and have a positive impact on those around us. I wish you all a happy and peaceful
#Thanksgiving
Perpetuating a devastating humanitarian crisis in
#Yemen
that’s caused death, suffering, starvation, cholera for millions of people — for a $2 billion arms deal — is outrageous! Shame.
Today marks the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. I'll
#neverforget
my visit there and the horrors committed at that concentration camp. We must remember the past and stand firmly against hatred, antisemitism, and religious bigotry.
Today, I voted to pass the Great American Outdoors Act, which I co-sponsored. This legislation will fund important restoration and conservation work on public lands including Hawaiʻi’s national parks - some of the most magnificent sites in the world.
As a fellow Soldier in the National Guard, I am grateful for all of my brothers and sisters in the National Guard who are mobilizing across the country to serve! I stand ready to serve should the Hawaii National Guard be activated.
Today, I voted to pass legislation that demands the end of military action against Iran without Congressional authorization and reasserts the Constitutional authority of Congress to declare war.
In 2017 alone, our country arrested 600,000 people just for possession of marijuana. Our bipartisan legislation takes a step toward ending the failed War on Drugs, ending the federal prohibition on marijuana, and ensuring that our policies are guided by facts and the truth.
President Trump’s deployment of US troops to secure Syrian oil fields that do not belong to us, with talks of welcoming in private oil corporations to take the oil, is unconstitutional and a violation of International Law. Syria’s natural resources belong to the Syrian people.
Today’s vote and passage of the Save the Internet Act is a stand against the pervasive influence of corporate interests in our democracy and the FCC’s repeal of net neutrality.
#NetNeutrality
#SavetheInternetAct
I cosponsored H.R. 2184, the Reach Every Veteran in Crisis Act to help improve mental health care and suicide prevention outreach for our veterans. Leave no one behind.
I introduced H.R. 3652, the Hemp for Victory Act, to lay the foundation for how we can optimize the hemp industry’s potential and ensure this opportunity benefits family farms and small businesses across America — from Hawai‘i to Kentucky and beyond. (1/4)
Saudi Arabia’s genocidal war in
#Yemen
shouldn’t be invisible. The tens of thousands of men, women & children who’ve been wounded or killed & millions more who are sick & starving can't be forgotten. We must end US support for Saudi's war in Yemen now
#Diwali
represents the triumph of good over evil, love over hate, and truth over lies, serving as a powerful reminder to us all at a time of such divisiveness and darkness. Let us take these lessons to heart not just during Diwali, but every day.
#Yemen
is on the brink of the worst famine in 100 years. The lives of innocent men, women, and children are on the line. The US must end its support for Saudi Arabia’s genocidal war now.
Today, I reintroduced the Opioid Crisis Accountability Act with Rep. Ro Khanna (CA-17). Opioid companies have lied, cheated, and profited from the addiction and death left in the wake of the crisis they helped create. (1/2)
Our coral reef is being threatened. We can't add to the problem by exposing them to harmful chemicals. They're beautiful, attract visitors from around the world, play an important role in the ecosystem, & help protect against coastal flooding.
Today and every day we honor all who paid the ultimate price in service to our nation, and to the Gold Star families they leave behind. We will never forget.
#MemorialDay
I urge my colleagues to support H.R. 1227, the Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act, which would decriminalize marijuana by removing it from the federal controlled substances list, treating it the same as alcohol and tobacco.
The Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. embodied the spirit of aloha. What binds us together is greater than what tears us apart and we must overcome prejudice to do so. Among our own communities and as we engage others in the world, we must remember his words:
I just introduced the Oxybenzone and Octinoxate Impact Study & Reef Safe Acts. The ingredients in many common sunscreens are chemicals that have been proven to kill coral reef, harm marine life, & raise serious concerns about the impact they may have on people who use them. (1/1)
Today, we honor civil rights activist Fred Korematsu, who fought against the internment of Japanese Americans during WWII. His bravery in the face of injustice – standing up to what he knew was wrong, taking his case to the Supreme Court – inspires those fighting injustice today.
It's been nearly 100 years since women fought for and won the right to vote. Yet, we still do not have equal rights and protection under the United States Constitution.
Our outdated policies on marijuana are turning everyday Americans into criminals, tearing apart families, and wasting huge amounts of taxpayer dollars to arrest, prosecute, and incarcerate people for non-violent marijuana charges.
