AJ Reeves is joining the Celtics' Summer League squad.
Reeves, a 6-foot-6 guard from Roxbury, grew up a Celtics fan and shined at Brimmer and May and Providence College.
Great opportunity to represent his hometown and try to prove himself

Final: Scituate 12, Falmouth 11 (OT)
Willy Robinson scores his sixth goal with 3:22 remaining to send the Sailors to the D3 final.
Powerful moment as Robinson, who lost his father — a Scituate assistant, Will — five days ago finds a way. What sports are all about. Amazing.
When SVP asked Todd McShay to name a first-rounder who’s “absolutely rocketing up the board,” McShay didn’t hesitate.
“Zay Flowers. Wide receiver from Boston College.”
“It won’t surprise me, when it’s all said and done, if he’s somewhere in the top 15.”
College football hierarchy update:
- BC beat NC State
- NC State beat Wake
- Wake beat Florida State
- Florida State beat LSU
- LSU beat Alabama
So, therefore, BC > Alabama
These are the rules. I don't make them up. I'm just here to share BC news.
Inspiring moment after Auburn beats UNC, as Tigers coach Bruce Pearl gets choked up while he speaks about Chuma Okeke. “We’re gonna rally.” Easy to see how much Okeke means to Pearl and the team.
I want to see the Celtics make zero moves at the trade deadline. This is a nearly perfect team; don’t tinker with near-perfection in search of perfection.
Me: “You’ve made me laugh more than anyone else over the years. Thank you.”
Larry David: “Alright, you’re getting too close.”
Pretty, pretty, pretty good!!!
Zay Flowers:
- 200 career receptions (1st in BC history)
- 3,056 receiving yards (1st in BC history)
- 29 receiving TDs (1st in BC history)
- 12 receiving TDs this season (1st in BC history)
- 78 receptions this season (tied for 1st in BC history)
A truly remarkable career.
Jeff Hafley: "It’s a special place right now, and we’re coming. It’ll take time, but this thing’s going to build. I saw it today, and I’m so grateful for how loud it was. The way they came on the field at the end of the game was one of the coolest moments I’ve had as a coach."
Jaylen Brown on Joe Mazzulla: "Joe is tough as nails. Even in the midst of everything, in the midst of all the turmoil, you could look into his eyes and see he was ready."
@celticsblog
Jeff Hafley: "Anybody who watched this team play today, anybody who watched the confidence of this team, anyone who watched and could see how much these kids love each other, and everything they’re giving, then they should see what’s coming, because we are."
Thank you all for following along through another eventful BC season.
This was probably the most memorable year yet. A lightning delay, a near-upset of FSU, a trip to Army, a five-game winning streak, a three-game losing streak and a trip to Fenway.
Grateful to do what I do.
Colleen O'Brien: "I remember when I first met him, we’ve been married 25 years, him telling me he went into coaching wanting to be the head coach at Boston College. To see that come full circle really means everything to me, to him, and to our family."
Devotion to his 5-year-old daughter, Bella, drives former Everett star Lewis Cine as the NFL Draft approaches.
“That’s his No. 1. Everything he does in life, he constantly thinks about his daughter.”
On Cine’s journey from Haiti to now and his purpose:
Excited to share that I'm joining
@celticsblog
as a regular contributor! Looking forward to getting started with the
@SBNationNBA
team.
I'll be writing about a little bit of everything. First story, on Josh Richardson's role, is currently in the works.
Thomas Castellanos: "I can’t leave, but why leave? This is the school that gave me an opportunity to come in and show the world what I can do. They have faith in me."
The Boston area is home for Bill O’Brien.
When the BC job opened up, he didn’t hesitate. It’s always been his dream, and the timing was right.
“I just think this is a great fit for my family and me.”
@BGlobeSports
Yeah, Carlos Alcaraz is going to be a problem for a long, long time. No one should be able to turn defense into offense with this much conviction. Holy smokes.
Jay Bilas on Boston College: "This is a team that's going to do some damage in the ACC. They're vastly improved, and I think with this level of guard play, they're going to be a tough, tough out."
Alec Lindstrom: "It brings energy to the program. BC should never lose any Massaachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut top prospect to any of those other Power-Five schools. I think having a local guy, who has these connections, I think it’s going to be great for recruiting."
Joe Mazzulla on Marcus Smart: "I just told him that I love him and appreciate who he is as a person. You’re never going to replace a guy like that, everything he’s done … it’s not even worth thinking about that. At the end of the day, it’s what happened."
@celticsblog
Jeff Hafley on Andre Hines: "I gave him the game ball in there. He had tears in his eyes. Guys picked him up. That’s a momenth he’ll never forget. That’s college football."
.
@BCFootball
has conducted over 2,000 COVID-19 tests with only one positive result back in the summer. That person has made a full recovery.
Jeff Hafley: "Every time I get those all negative, all negative, all negative, all negative, I get fired up like it’s Christmas again."
Thomas Castellanos joins Malik Cunningham, Lamar Jackson, Deshaun Watson and Woody Dantzler as the only ACC QBs to eclipse 2,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards since 1996.
.
@acacia_walker
on
@BCwlax
's culture: "It’s the girls making a choice to give up so much for each other to win. They risk everything with no guarantee, and I think that is so courageous and brave. That’s why I love them."
O'Brien: "I have a group text with Flutie, Halloran, Matt Ryan, the Hasselbeck brothers, I want to say Brian St. Pierre’s on there … I’ve texted with Luke Kuechly, Stephen Boyd, my best friend is Mike Panos. Pete Kendall, Drew Kendall’s dad is stopping in to see us this week."

Much like he did in football, he loves helping others behind the scenes:
Acacia Walker-Weinstein: "The losses along the way were part of this process. I’m not glorifying losing by any means, but I do think maybe I, our staff, our players, needed to be hardened a bit to be ready for this moment. I think some of the losses did just that."
@BCwlax
Powerful moment on Senior Day, as the Dragons let Peaty Hoogendijk, who tore her ACL early this season, serve as an honorary captain and start the game off. This is what sports are all about.
“I roll with Veronica Burton, because she’s a winner.”
With guidance from her sports-crazed family, her NFL-bound boyfriend Greg Newsome II, Brian Scalabrine and more, she’s helped take Northwestern to new heights.
She’s all about team harmony and unity:
Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, as much as they've already accomplished, are still just 24 and 25.
Both are entering their primes, and neither is a finished product.
Their best, individually and collectively, is yet to come:

“I want to be like her’: Charlotte North has inspired the next generation at Boston College and beyond:
“I think Charlotte’s legacy is that she’s teaching young girls to be proud of themselves.”

Very grateful for the opportunity. I'll still be working full time at the Clipper and also covering Division 4 high school football for the Globe.
Excited to share that I’ll be covering
@BCFootball
as a beat writer for both
@BGlobeSports
and
@BostonDotCom
.
Looking forward to reporting on the team for a third season and the first as the main reporter for both outlets.
Thanks, as always, for following along!
Another perfect round of testing for
@BCFootball
. That's over 1,700 tests in total and just one positive case earlier this summer.
Jeff Hafley: "These kids want to play football, and they’re now going to be rewarded for this, which is really, really awesome to see."
Hafley: "People have to get up early. This is a big game. We’re 6-3, in November, and this is a meaningful game for a lot of reasons. Not just to continue the winning streak, but there’s other things at stake. I would just urge the students, especially, to get up early."
Until further notice,
@RiverHawkMBB
is the best D1 men's hoops team in Mass.
A surprise to some, but not to the folks at UMass Lowell. At 17-4, they're eying more.
“We came in here in the summer expecting to win, and that’s what we’re doing right now."
Earl Grant on the preseason expectations: "I know Rich Strike won the Kentucky Derby. Nobody thought he could. He got invited an hour before the race. We’re in the race. We get to play the games. That’s all that matters to us."
Excited to share that I've accepted a part-time position as a Sports Producer for
@BostonDotCom
.
I'll be writing about Boston's pro teams – including the Celtics – and also posting to the site, updating the newsletter and running the social media accounts.
Can't wait to start!
Fueled by the memory of his late brother, Thomas Castellanos has blossomed into a star for BC.
He’s rediscovering his purpose, finding his voice and reinvigorating the program.
“Now, I’m doing what I dreamed of doing. Now, I am who I dreamed of being.”
Thomas Castellanos on the Holy Cross fans sticking around through the delay: "I was like, ‘Where did all our fans go?’ It was crazy. All I seen was purple. They have a great student body. They were into the game. It shows how much it means to them. It is what it is."
This is Zay Flowers in a nutshell. He’s just a relentlessly optimistic and positive person. It’s hard, even for vets like OBJ, not to feel his youthful exuberance. It’s contagious.
Duxbury's Olivia Evans, who is a freshman on the Holy Cross women's rowing team, told me she's OK after after this morning's accident in Florida. She was in the van, and she injured her knee a bit, but she's fine.
Marcus Smart (
@smart_MS3
) is courtside for
@BCMBB
vs.
@SaintLouisMBB
today, sporting a YGC hoodie.
He said he’s here to support his old coach, Travis Ford, who’s now the Saint Louis head coach. Smart said he’s rooting for a good game and no injuries

This is honestly wild. Andre Hines Jr. isn't on the depth chart. He's (unofficially) BC's fifth-string RB. He redshirted in 2020 and didn't see any action in 2021 or 2022. Heck of a moment for him.
Kudos to Vinny DePalma on a spectacular career. When you think of BC football, you think of a guy like him. Tough, cerebral, team-oriented and passionate. A fitting ending for him, as he departs with a signature bowl win.
Franklin's Reese Doyon has a rare condition called functional neurological disorder. She's had hundreds of seizures since June.
Her teammates and community have rallied around her, and she feels the love every day.
"She’s a bright light for all of us.”
Does Phil Jurkovec feel like this game showed that BC can play with any team in the country? "Yeah, it does. It shows us that, but we already knew that. We won’t take any moral victories. We were up big in the first half, and we let them come back. Close isn’t good enough."
Roxbury's A.J. Reeves, who played at Brimmer and May and Providence College, earned a spot on the Celtics' Summer League roster.
“The emotion just flooded me. I’m still excited right now. I can’t even speak.”
He hopes this is just the beginning:
