Finally, we’re gonna analyze the comic made for Boy Scout Gus’ release! The whole premise of it is that Ash has lost his broom, and Grom decides to come with to help him look for it (even if he established that he’s wary of the forest the two are at). (1/10)

With all this in mind, it makes Grom’s efforts of protecting Ash more meaningful. He’s putting aside his known fear of children to keep his triomate/friend safe. Even note the caption from the artwork: “You can always count on Grom to save you!” (4/6)

There are a few things about the artwork that make it standout (and thus, tell us about Ash and Grom’s relationship). First, note the debris being thrown. Some of them are a claw of Nita’s teddy bear plush and some Spinner Blades of Leon’s. So, most likely, the Shaman… (2/6)

Another detail to note is Ash’s expressions as Grom has his entire freakout episode. The expressions are more neutral, showing to us that Ash is used to Grom’s antics involving children. You MIGHT expect Ash to be “demeaning” towards Grom’s fear, but this isn’t the case… (2/10)

One CAN interpret this as Ash protecting Grom from said attack (even if the two duos seem to be in separate one-on-one fights). But maybe Ash protects Grom just as Grom protects Ash. The two care for one another, even if it isn’t as obvious at first glance. (2/2)

…in this comic. He just goes along with it as it is “any other day.” And also, judging that Ash… has eaten food from the garbage before, I don’t see him as being outright rude towards one’s behaviors as that. I’m glad that the possible scenario was debunked in the comic. (3/10)

Something for the Grom lovers too! He makes a brief split-second appearance in the very beginning of the animation. He’s riding on a roller coaster! Same as Ash, this is his first 2024 appearance and first appearance in 170 days.

…HE could be the one to take the bulk of the damage if Gus were to actually hit them. Like in the first artwork of the thread, this is another example of Grom facing his fears to protect Ash. Although Ash is canonically a tanky brawler who’s always in armor, we can see… (5/10)

For some reason, this tidbit of lore mentioning Ash’s aspiration was ONLY in his Spanish description and nowhere else… so we don’t really know if it’s a canon part of Ash’s character.

The last thing I want to discuss about this comic is its ending. As Gus approaches the duo, you can see that Ash is initially the one facing him (as he points out to Grom that he’s behind them). But as Gus looks as if he’s about to attack, Grom actually turns around so… (4/10)
