VAT reductions & deferals aside there sadly appears to be little in the Chancellors statement to give comfort to the careers of the many talented people who are key to our entrepreneurial future. Special arrangements and sector specific support are necessary.

UK Music has argued many music SMEs (labels, managers & publishers etc.) risk falling between the cracks in government Covid19 support. News that councils are being asked to prioritise those in shared spaces with this discretionary fund is great news!

Good news for orchestras in budget as tax relief extension made permanent, following calls from UK Music and our members. Will government take the opportunity to make human voice a qualifying instrument & ensure choirs across the country are eligible for relief too? #Budget2024

UK Music is pleased the Government has maintained the 75% business rate discount for hospitality for another year. All music spaces, including studios & rehearsal spaces, should benefit from this to ensure creative industries are key sectors for growth

New plans confirm that from 2021 EU musicians coming to the UK for concerts & festivals will be treated in the same way as those from the rest of the world. This will drag some agents & promoters into the immigration system for the first time & increases the possibility that 1/3

A crude “skills & salary” approach to immigration is not music to our ears. New rules require incoming performers & composers to have skills vouched for yet this must not be an excuse to place arbitrary decision making in the hands of border control. Guidance that supports 1/2
