Fatigue & reduced exercise tolerance appear major post-inpatient consequences to COVID-19. Our advice early-on about pacing & behaviour modification in largely self-managed rehab will be valuable.

What I learnt today = NICE Guideline Committees really think hard & deeply consider all recommendations they make. Really impressed with the NICE processes today for NHS patient care.
I have kindly received funding from
@NIHRresearch
for a study to investigate a treatment programme to support caregivers who support people with chronic bone, joint & muscle pain. If you're an
@NHSuk
service who treats these patients & you're interested, please reach out.
This week, I taught loads of physio students
@UEA_Physio
the importance of looking at patient problems & not at labels we place on diagnoses. Many looked at me with disbelief (please disagree
@UEA_Physio
guys) but ultimately I encourage patient-person centred care/research.
Very pleased to be joining the Quality Standards Committee for the
@NICEComms
Hip, Knee & Shoulder Joint Replacement Guidelines. Excited to help put the guidelines into practice.
Good luck everyone submitting
@NIHRresearch
PCAF applications today. Never a small feat to develop, write, manage & submit these fellowship applications. Always a learning experience & such a fantastic gateway for another generation of UK clinical academics.

Really pleased to see the first

Congratulations to the amazing people who have been awarded

Today
@pip_nicolson
& I (virtually) did the analysis of all outcome measures reporting pain & function in hip & knee osteoarthritis trials. There are rather alot. We will report this through
@OMERACT
& aim to tell the world soon on how best to measure pain & function in OA trials

Clinical Doctoral Research Fellowship applicants who were invited to interview this week = great achievement. If you weren't successful, don't give up, seek advice, reflect & re-apply stronger in 2020.
I'm really pleased I largely spent my day supporting other people's research & developing the next generation of researchers (plus a FEMUR 3 Trial restart meeting with
@benedsmith
where we aim to improve rehab of people after hip fracture).

Neat design - new stepped-wedge, cluster-RCT with hybrid design assessing effectiveness of the implementation of a guideline-based intervention for shoulder pain in community practice.

Summarised our musculoskeletal disease & COVID-19 survey results today to a colleague where we followed people over Lockdown 1.0 for 10 weeks. Amazing how resilient people are but how tough it was for people with bone, muscle & joint pain. Paper to be submitted imminently.

Pre-surgical interventions to prevent chronic pain post-TKR: low to moderate-quality evidence suggesting neither preoperative exercise, education nor a combination of both is effective. New from the
