It was a pleasure giving toys to kids of homicide victims. One kid literally brought tears to my eyes because of the excitement of receiving a brand new bicycle. I look forward to doing it again tomorrow for kids who may have lost a parent due to violent crime.

There is definitely a need for a statewide registry for bad cops. Something similar to the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB). Bad policing does harm to both the community and profession as a whole. Mandatory reporting of officers who are fired for “destructive” behavior.

Part of Prop P was to provide two person patrols in the county along with building two new precincts. The proposition was passed by 63 percent of the vote. Now we are being told to layoff officers or cut the budget by 7 mil. The public is paying for something they are not getting

An “effective” crime plan should have community input. Anything short of that is not an “effective” crime plan. You can reduce crime while simultaneously building relationships in the community. An “effective” crime plan must start with community trust.

If Corporations want to be involved in lowering crime in our communities, instead of focusing on combining police agencies, how about invest in the root causes of crime. Until people with power and influence commit to addressing root causes, this will continue to be cyclical.

With federal money heading to our region by way of the Americans Rescue Plan (ARP), I highly recommend that some of those funds be used to upgrade our Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) 911 system in the region. When people dial 911 they expect someone to answer the phone promptly

Residents of St. Louis County, there are cops among us who go to work every day without being recognized. A couple of weeks ago, I had an officer who spotted an unhoused person and paid for that individual's lunch. These are the kinds of acts that you never hear about yet should.

Ladies and Gentleman each and every day police officers put their lives on the line so we all can sleep comfortable at night. Today is National Thank a Police Officer Day. A simple gesture of saying thank you to a police officer today could go a long way. #StLouis
