We are announcing NebraskaPromise. If your family is at or below the median income level in Nebraska you can attend the University of Nebraska tuition free.
President Bounds made an announcement of his resignation on Monday. He is a tireless, dedicated leader. It has been a real privilege to have him lead NU and a privilege to get to know him and his family. We're thankful for his service.
The Board of Regents has approved a contract extension for President Hank Bounds, effective July 1, 2018. The contract extends through June 30th, 2023.
I'm humbled to have been nominated and selected as the Vice Chair for the Board of Regents this year. I'm excited to continue moving the University of Nebraska's mission forward.
Speaker Scheer: the relationship between the university system and the legislature is as good as I’ve seen it in my 8 years. There’s an appreciation of how the university impacts the welfare of our state and the state’s economy. The sky is the limit for the University of Nebraska
The appointment of Dr. Susan Fritz is historic. She will be the first woman leader of the NU system in its history. Dr. Fritz has been a student, faculty member, and administrator at the University of Nebraska - the university will be in great hands under her leadership.
I am opposing this resolution put forth to the Board of a handful of reasons: one, the proposal does not align with the Bylaws of the Board of regents; two, the proposal does not reflect the values of an institution of higher education;...
We need to be doubling down on teaching our students how to disagree with one another yet finding common ground and purpose. We need to be committed to treating opposing ideas, not as threats, but as a welcomed challenge and an opportunity to learn.
We are thrilled to have Ted Carter as president to steer us through these challenging times. The announcement of Nebraska Promise. We are going to help make the entire state better. We can overcome anything if we’re partnering and moving together in lockstep.
Today marks Bob Whitehouse's final meeting as chairman of the Board of Regents. Bob is a good friend and invaluable member of our board. I thank him for his leadership this year and continued contribution to the University of Nebraska.
Finally, I stand opposed to this resolution because it will only further divide us. Across our society, I have observed a population that is less willing to engage each other in good faith on topics in which we disagree with one another.
Board of Regents approve creation of the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Emerging Media Arts in the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film in the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts at UNL.

Regents have approved the Media Rights agreement for UNL Athletics, the lease and operating agreement changes at the Pinnacle Bank Arena to allow alcohol sales for men's and women's basketball, and a waiver to board policy for Memorial Stadium enhancements.
To me, it seems we are more concerned with making villains out of our opponents than understanding one another. Proposals, like the one before us today, only seek to further divide an already fractured society.
We owe it to our students, our faculty, and our academic leadership across our campuses to live by the rules as outlined. To me, that means allowing our students the opportunity to learn about Critical Race Theory.
Secondly, the proposed policy is not one a serious institution of higher education considers and passes. Academic freedom is the cornerstone of every outstanding educational institution. One of the most valuable aspects of the college experience is confronting ideas.
Bounds: We are at a defining moment in Nebraska’s history and we have a choice to make…In my view if we want Nebraska to compete…we need to invest in one of the primary economic drivers in the state in the University of Nebraska.
We need to continue discussing the success the University of Nebraska is experiencing and we need to take that message to every corner of the state. We need to continue showing how NU positively impacts everyone across the state.
This newly introduced program will impact over 1,000 Nebraska students. It will take affect next year for new students, as well as students already attending the university.
A person who deserves our respect, who deserves the right to voice their opinion, and who should not be considered an enemy simply because we disagree with one another.
The Regents approve the program statement for additions at Mammel Hall at UNO. The $17M project will add 43,700 square feet to the facility located on Scott Campus. The project will be completed utilizing private donations.
Bounds: The challenges we face have never been more complex. What hasn't changed is the vital role NU plays in educating our people and solving these issues while balancing affordability and access. We also are an engine that drives the state economy.
Proud of the national defense research done at
@u_nebraska

@NSRI_NU
and the $92M contract extension they received through USSTRATCOM and the DoD.
We are welcoming new student regents at today's meeting. These student leaders are elected by their respective campus student bodies. Student regents help us in countless ways and serve as a sounding board on issues impacting students across our campuses. Welcome!
Next, we are honoring the outgoing Student Regents who have served on the Board of Regents for the past year. These student leaders are among the best and brightest students the university has to offer. It has been a privilege to work with and know each of them.
Board of Regents approves the creation of an interdisciplinary Master of Science in Data Science, which will be offered jointly by the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, and Information Science and Technology at UNO.
But we need to remember we are better when we can have these discussions, when we can challenge one another, and when we understand the person across from us is exactly that: a person.
We are saying farewell to our student regents today. We are passing resolutions commending their work throughout the year. These students are incredible. I’m privileged to have known each of them. I wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.
If we do not have faith and trust in our professors and our academic leaders, we have much bigger issues. I trust President Carter, the chancellors, our senior leadership team, our deans, and our faculty. This proposal casts doubt on those leaders and their abilities.
The Board of Regents have exited closed session and Susan Fritz, NU's provost and executive vice president will be named Interim President of the University of Nebraska.
Chancellor Kristensen concludes his remarks, noting how the momentum at the UNK continues to grow, even in the face of adversity and budget cuts. We're very glad to have Chancellor Kristensen and his team moving our university system forward.
This will be the final JPA meeting for Mayor Beutler and City Councilman Carl Eskridge. Mayor Beutler has served on the JPA since its formation. This is a project that brought people together. I appreciate Mayor Beutler's leadership on this project and with the JPA.
Ideas that you may not have considered or ideas that challenge your existing worldview. I trust our faculty to educate our students, to engage them in the topics of which they are experts...
Chapter 4 of the bylaws of the Board explicitly state each member of our academic community has the obligation to respect the dignity of others, the right of others to express differing opinions, & the right of others to be free from fear, from violence, & from personal abuse.
Chairman Jim Pillen opens the meeting by thanking the incredible employees of the University of Nebraska, our leadership teams, and those who are contributing to the fight against COVID-19. I echo those sentiments. We are incredibly grateful.
We are also saying farewell to our Faculty Senate presidents, who each serve as liaisons to the Board of Regents. We are thankful for your service over the past year.
I want to thank those of you who came before us today. They are part of the civil process, and for that, you deserve our gratitude. I know many of you will not agree with my vote. I know valued colleagues around this table will not agree with my reasoning.
President Bounds is discussing the impact NU has on industries around the state. From agriculture, to early childhood education, to defense research, to cancer care and research. The impact is truly astounding. Follow

It also means allowing our students to agree or disagree with what they are taught about Critical Race Theory, to state their case, to try and change the minds of others. We also have a duty to ensure no student is scared, or intimidated, or abused because of their beliefs.
Bounds: Budget cuts mean that we cannot continue to grow our state. It means our future looks different for our children and our children’s children. The cuts already identified are significant and we still have over $14 million in cuts to identify.
We continue exploring options and opportunities to make higher education as affordable and accessible as possible. We will announce more programs in the future.
The policy before us, as prosed, stands in opposition to the bylaws of the Board of Regents. It discounts the collective expertise of the leaders we’ve selected to run our campuses and to keep the best interests of our students at the forefront.
...community is charged with being responsible in establishing and maintaining a classroom atmosphere that encourages free inquiry and the free expression of ideas by students.
The meeting of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents is underway. Our morning presentations begin with discussing NU's efforts in mobile education and training in rural Nebraska.
The Board of Regents is considering the designation of Regent Emeritus for Bob Whitehouse, who will depart from the board in January of 2019. Regent Whitehouse is a UNK grad, lifelong educator, and a valued member of this board.
Nebraskan, mother, cancer-survivor. Ashli Brahm is now testifying to the legislature regarding the proposed cuts. Ashli's story is a powerful example of the University of Nebraska's impact on the lives of Nebraskans across the state.
Today we are being asked to take an unprecedented action as a board. We are being asked to consider a policy that would, in effect, limit what students at the University of Nebraska can or cannot learn as they pursue their education.
I remain committed to protecting these rights for all students, however, I cannot support the resolution because it is not congruent with these principles.
Further, each member of our academic community must evaluate the work of students without regard to political beliefs. Finally, our bylaws state that each member of the academic...
President Bounds: Under Gov. Rickett's budget proposal NU would need to find an additional $69M in cuts by June 30, 2019. A 1% tuition increase only increases revenue by roughly $2.5M. Chancellors are working on outlining cuts now articulating impact on students and programs.
