Ok there’s a USA fencing couple married to one another, who both have now gone to 4 Olympics, both have won medals, both in their 30s, both medical students….. what???? 🤯🤯🤯
They helped me navigate med school during COVID and gave me great advice since I was a MS1. They are changing the face of medicine. Drs. Kim and Ashley coming to a hospital near you! Not a goodbye but a see you later 🥹☺️💚
Hard to believe it’s been 15 years straight of pursuing medicine (since starting undergrad in 2009). Countless times I thought it’d be easier to quit. First in my family in any healthcare field! I’m going to be an anesthesiologist!!! 🥹🥹🥹😭😭😭

While I am excited to train at an AMAZING place, the reality of finding a job for my fiancé in his desired industry or potentially continuing long distance is equally as painful and scary. Shout out to the partners who sacrifice so much for our lives in medicine 🥹
#Match2024
To the dozen folks who said I shouldn't pursue this path, to the long gap years where I suffered incessantly from imposter syndrome, to the folks who said scores would define my career, to my younger self, to my support system. These are for you ♥️

Seeing people get interviews at places I applied to just brings up the imposter syndrome I’m so familiar with. Think I need to cool it off of these reddit spreadsheets and discord chats 🥲😅
Orientation is over and now the real work begins. So many jobs I’ve had before but tomorrow will be my first shift as a doctor! I’m overwhelmed, excited, and also terrified for the intensity and the steep learning curve. But here we go, class of 2028! 🥼🤓
Successfully keeping anxious feelings about

at bay! Is this normal?? There are lingering thoughts of “what if I don’t match?” but ever since our rank lists were submitted, our futures have already been decided
So many people who helped me get this far, without them I’d be nothing. To the small village who offered advice, encouragement, love, support, and a shoulder to cry on, I’m so so thankful. I wish I could fit them all in one post! More

Thought I was doing alright in my EM rotation, getting affirmation from seniors, attendings, & patients. But this week’s transition to ICU has been challenging and demoralizing. I know I could do better. Tbh, only thing that got me by was coming home to watch

recaps
Do I even dare get my hopes up about Match, let alone matching at my “dream program”? Do I even dare imagine what my life could be, with the people I love surrounding me?
With Match, who knows 😶…
The most nerve-wracking part of
#Match2024
for me was waiting for interviews. But once they came, I've been totally at peace and have loved the interview trail. I haven't felt much anxiety about Match Day (as of now) and know that I will (hopefully) be where I'm meant to be...
My heart goes out to those who didn't match today. I hope you surround yourselves with supporters and that you find a program that is the perfect match for you. If there's anything I've learned, a nonlinear path is still a path. You will become the doctor you were meant to be!!
I'm FINALLY done with my personal statement 😭😭😭 Now I feel that it is 100% me and my story. So grateful for the village that reviewed and provided commentary. 🥹
#Match2024
here we come!!
My wish for the last three weeks of my last rotation of med school is that patients stop asking me what ‘nationality’ I am (I am a US citizen), asking me about the origins of my name (“is it oriental?”), or commenting about the stereotypes of people of my ethnic group 😞
I've really been thinking about crit care fellowship more these days, but I haven't even had my ICU rotation yet and just an M3... Was hoping to connect with anyone who could provide insight into the anesthesiology/crit care pathway!

Receiving amazing feedback 🥹 Was told I’m doing really well as an off-service intern as if I’m not off-service and reasons why. I was super happy to hear this especially since I didn’t do an EM rotation during med school! 😃

To this day I question whether I deserve the awards I’ve received, but I’m learning to be proud of my accomplishments and still move forward in humility. Wouldn’t have made it through this journey without my support system 🥹
Truth- I've been stressed about having to check my email constantly for interviews. Why doesn't anesthesia participate in universal interview release dates??
So much going on in life and in current events that I need to be grateful and trust that I'll be where I'm meant to be 😌
Thought about this alot. Though in med school I've gotten accolades I've never dreamed of getting, I've also had my fair share of struggles to get here, and I'm unashamed of it. Every day from college 'til now I've worked towards becoming a doctor, marking 14 whole years 🥹 1/2
Don't let MedTwitter intimidate you.
Most people don't post their insecurities, failures, and mistakes.
They post highlights. "I received this award." "I published this paper." "I made this dx."
But remember we all FAIL, struggle, and have doubts. Wish we posted those more.
This made my day today. A girl drew a picture of me in my scrubs and made sure to check that my eyes are brown first before coloring them in. My glasses are nowhere to be found haha but I love it 😇☺️

May has been/will be a packed month! Appointments, packing, graduation, Chicago trip, moving to my new apartment ✅
To come: Mother’s Day, unpacking and organizing, my 33rd bday, Asia trip to visit family I haven’t seen in over 10 years 😁🤩
In true “lifelong learning” fashion, I’m still working on research projects, mentoring, and advocacy things up until and after graduation. Love doing these things but I just hope I’m better at balancing once intern year starts!
On the flip side, one of my friends who applied to a surgical subspecialty said he is doing an anesthesia elective even though he doesn't need more elective credit. Said he wants to learn how to work better in the OR as a team. That's what we love to hear! 🙌
Some highlights of the week ☀️- finding a Mandarin-speaking doctor for my parents (tbd if he speaks Cantonese, even better), and speaking Spanish with a patient and his caregiver and seeing their faces light up. Small examples of how cultural competency matters!
Another great opportunity for med students preparing for away rotations! I only helped moderate a session last year but was impressed by the students’ prep & knowledge base. Thank you to

The anesthesia world is truly so small! One of my interviewers knew some of the anesthesiologists I worked with at a full time job I had from nearly a decade ago 🤯 Grateful for all the connections I’ve made on my nonlinear journey 🛣️
I just love that I found this group of med students from Guam. I can feel the love we have for our home. We've raised over $7k so far for Typhoon Mawar relief efforts 🥹🥹🌴
From having no mentorship during my 11 years as a premed, to being graced with the advice of many mentors. Wow, I’m humbled and blown away. I’ve said this before, but mentorship is so key and I’m paying it forward as best I can even while in med school 💡
Spent my bday on my anesthesia elective and with my parents for the first time in 14 years 😇
But other than that, now I'm a 32 year old med student 🥹 (something I've come to embrace saying but still a sobering thought 😮💨)
Spent this morning recording more sessions with

Made moodboards for most spaces in my brand new apartment! Excited to exercise my interior design skills and get rid of cheap furniture I’ve had for nearly a decade to start anew. Thankful to have so many student loans to hold me over until my first residency paycheck lol 😝
The cat's out of the bag - Excited to be a part of the ASA MSC Governing Council this year and work with some cool peoples! and also to continue my role within the ASA DEI Working Group! 😁☺️
