🏒📊 New Post on How to track hockey games.
From pen and paper to a shot plotter to a custom excel tracker, I tried to cover it all.
People asked for this, hope it helps.
I'll forever urge NHL owners to have a standing up kop.
25$ ticket, true die hard fans willing to sing, jump and clap, waiving flags for 60 minutes no matter the score.
Yes, less money

Your team would have a UNIQUE sense of home and support. And harder for the opposition.
Quick update on David Reinbacher.
We waited but the coaching change did not solve anything collectively. Kloten really on a path to play for relegation at that point.
1 win in their last 10.
6 goals scored in their last 5 games. Hard to get points when no one is scoring.

Bedard not being 1st is a testimony of how historical Michkov's and Fantilli's seasons have been, playing in non-junior leagues.
Goal scoring is not everything in Hockey.
In 2012-13, the Royal Military College in the USports league scored 65,535 goals in 28 games BUT DID NOT MAKE THE PLAYOFFS.
Also: 65,535 - 126 = 32,767. The more you know
David Reinbacher in his first game back in 🇨🇭
17m51 TOI (3rd among Dmen)
Felt like Kloten was taking it slowly with him.
PP2 duty (just 34 s).
Best productive D for Kloten, being responsible for 7% of all offense creation at 5v5.
89% controlled Exit (8/9)
3 shots
3 shot assists
Done tracking
Probably his best game so far this season and Reinbacher looked like what I imagine him to be in his Draft +1 season.
A dynamic, physical presence, very mindful and efficient in every play he makes. Aggressive offensively. 10 shots tonight. Big possession driver
2 assists for Reinbacher tonight, in another (OT) win against a top team.
First Assist is a good shot at the net, with someone scoring on the rebound, something that has been missing for a defenseman (Reinbacher) to rack up points)

Reinbacher used ... on the bumper by Kloten today on the PP.
Also, not paired with Beaulieu on his return.
2nd TOI among dmen but TOI was well spread (and the game was quickly out of reach for Kloten).
Skating clearly keeps improving, stops and go much more fluid
Montreal takes David Reinbacher with the 5th pick !!!!!!
@CanadiensMTL
Best Dman out of Swiss NL since Josi. Not the same profile but will be a franchise cornerstone.

First game for Reinbacher under the new coach:
Paired with Nathan Beaulieu to create a real top pair (instead of role duos)
PP1 with the best players of the team
PK duty as well.
This is interesting.

We'll discuss David Reinbacher's development, Vinzenz Rohrer's play, and more.

Classic projection from Reinbacher to start and support the rush.
He has done it all year long. Now with teammates with a better finishing touch.
Having support when he does the drop pass on entry is already a big improvement.

📊🏒 Here it is. David Reinbacher's season analysis.
We tracked all his 35 games and here are the thoughts and stats based analysis that emerged out of it.
Article here - >
It is just 19 bumpy games. Kloten has only 18 more to play before season ends, then probably a playoff round for play-down, and a relegation serie if they loose the play-down.
ANYHOW, he will be in Laval by April. As planned.
Nobody needs panicking, all is fine.

Love that Seattle is hiring help on the analytics department but even more that they openly say what they’re building internally.

Hockey image:
- last game of your career

Since the dawn of hockey analytics, there have been a few key resources:
- cap related
- stats website
- go to guy for cards and graph
- manual tracking
Every time one gets grabbed by an NHL team, someone takes the spot.
Here was the hit on 17-year-old, 152-pound defenceman Adam Jiricek in the Czechia Extraliga by 27-year-old, 201-pound Jan Scotka yesterday. Exhibit A for why you shouldn't rush kids into men's leagues. This wasn't easy to watch.

The overreactions about the bumper thing is flat out funny
Really need to write that article exploring how the hockey world outside the NHL works
Kloten is not Montreal’s farm team.
They have 2 other offensive Dmen that can only play point and are looking for ways to win games

Signs of Reinbacher keeping on improving his game (aka adapting his skating and recovering from injury):
Much better control of his stops and gos, changing direction and gears. Not overcommitting and using his stick length instead.
Here vs Denis Malgin and Rudolf Balcers.

Kloten lost their 2 games this week-end, not scoring a single goal.
New coach and Reinbacher keeps being the most used Dman in the team at 5v5 and PP.
Now fully back to his normal self, also can sense his confidence, talking and signaling a lot on the ice to his teammates.
Now his pic is on their website, just a word about this guy, who left France for Sweden with a one way ticket at 20yrs old to pursue his dream of working in hockey.

@lgirod
It is a great feeling to see so many habs fans watching 🇨🇭hockey for Reinbacher!!
Anddddd it also gives me a textbook case study of separating the good hockey eyes from the bullshitters 😅.
Dom sees in NHL data that goalies are more vulnerable from the right side of the ice (their glove side).
I don’t think it is random, we have seen that in manual tracking in Europe year after year.
📊🏒About David Reinbacher.
We tracked all his games before tonight at
@NLIceData
.
He's fine. Impact on his team's offensive build-up improved to the 94th percentile in the league.
Exits and Entries improved as well.
Better structured team will only make things better.
Big news from 🇨🇭 Kloten's and David Reinbacher's coach Gerry Fleming has been dismissed.
Kloten is 13th out of 14th in the standings and showed some poor hockey so far this season.
They rank 12th in xGF% at 5v5, 10th best PP and PK on xG created/allowed
One very interesting exercise was to compare a player’s projection with his actual career.
At 16 years old, your current performance determines 56% of your future career.
At 17: 65%
At 18: 70%
At 19: 76%

Getting into it with my Selective Network NHLe, and oh boy...
It's crazy to see the top5 leagues going from having an NHLe in the 0.50's if you take the past 10 seasons....
to being in the low 0.40's if you only take the past 5 seasons.
How the NHL is pulling away is shocking
You may not need to look beyond the standings to see how different things have been for the Canadiens since the Stanley Cup Final, but glancing at the roster ahead of their first game against the team they lost to last summer drives it home.
@EricEngels
📊🏒 The plan is to publish our 2023 Draft model explanation and ranking this week
Here's what the revised NHL Draft would have thought about the 2022 draft.
Slafkovsky was 33rd.
Nemec suffering from lack of ceiling from Slovakia Dmen.
Hudson Thornton went undrafted????
📊🏒 David Reinbacher's 2nd game in 🇨🇭
Almost 22mn TOI this time, despite Kloten only having 2mn of PP.
Played 5v5, PK2 and PP2 as usual.
Much more comfortable than in game 1 already.
Most useful dmen with 9% of his team's offense created by him. Mainly from his shots here.
Heyy machin!
- ouais?
- Ça te dit de travailler avec Shea?
- Cooooolllll. Je fais quoi?
- Prend le coussin et attend dans le coin....

Individually, Reinbacher is doing just fine.
Now over his early injury and physical growth, his skating is improving, timing too.
I like his pitching and explosivity more and more. Also using his long reach to defend and big body to separate the opponent from the puck.

The thing is with Montreal making the playoffs...
Montreal was actually a good 5v5 team burdened by poor special teams.
So we hear about teams fearing Carey Price but they may very well fear the Habs overall in a game with more 5v5 than in the regular season.
Loves the Vegas win simply because it's shattering so many lazy narratives on how to win a Cup. Non exhaustive list:
- build from the draft
- importance of goalie
- can't trade stars
- x is a cancer in the room
etc.
Just build with what you have in hand.

One number I forgot in the article is that Kloten (Reinbacher's team) ended the season with a -38 goals differential at even-strength.
-38
Reinbacher was +8
