It’s surprising to see Tier Zoo miss the mark on why people are drawn to Melee in the first place over Ultimate. Melee has such tight controls and is super responsive that going to a game with 6 frames of input lag and a million buffer frames it feels like fighting in molasses.

Favorite part of the NoFluxes thing is how he absolutely fucked up in trying to pin internet issues on Silver. He’s my roommate. I’m a network admin, who got gigabit fiber, a gigabit switch, and 1000’ of CAT6 cable so my other roommate, an electrician, could wire the house.

I play Ultimate and either moves don’t happen or the buffer system throws out a move from an input I did half a second ago. No thanks. Ultimate is still one of the best games ever made as a whole but something I want to compete in it falls short for glaring reasons.

@Speedkicks Curious on your thoughts on combos in regards to Melee. I love most fighting games but the thing that Melee does that no other game I think comes close is how even during combos, you are constantly interacting and dynamically changing combos. Between %, DI, SDI, etc.

@SonsOfWanarchy Reading the thread it more and more seems like he really dislikes the general Melee design, and attributes the reasons people stuck it out to things like exploits and wavedashing which misses the point. Melee, fundamentally, is just really fun to push buttons in.

@HugS86 @toph_bbq There’s no chance in hell there aren’t more total Falco lasers ever over currently living people. 8 billion people, 7 million copies of melee sold. Each copy of melee would need to shoot under 1200 lasers over the past 20 years. I’ve seen 500+ lasers in a single match.

I remember early Ultimate having a pretty healthy cadence of events (after initial boom obv) but COVID devastated the game in terms of momentum and lost potential history Some of it is the natural lifecycle of a competitive game but nothing about Smash has ever been natural lol
