The global participants have been busy prepping for general conference this weekend! Since landing in Utah, they have been fitted for outfits, studying music, practicing, and meeting choir members!

In November, the leadership of the Choir announced a global participant pilot program to include members from all over the world, reflecting the worldwide membership of the Church.

It’s been 175 years since a small choir was formed, which first sang at a conference of the Church on August 22, 1847—only 29 days after the first pioneers arrived in the Salt Lake Valley. From this small beginning, the Choir has become an international musical sensation.
The Choir was welcomed to the Philippines with an incredible cultural celebration, performed by Filipino youth from 10 stakes from all over the Philippines. It was a night to remember!
On Friday, March 26, 2021, at 7:00 p.m, The Tabernacle Choir will once again stream Handel’s Messiah. The Choir’s Messiah tradition continues through the benefit of modern technology using a performance originally recorded in 2018.

“I Stand All Amazed” is one of roughly 8,000 songs Charles H. Gabriel composed. Raised on a rural farm, he taught himself to play his family’s reed organ and never had any formal music training.
During this sacred time of year, we stand all amazed at our Savior’s love.

In the historic Tabernacle organ, many reservoirs provide pressurized air to the organ pipes. Production staff noticed an unusual sound, and upon further investigation, found the leather on one of the reservoirs (cont)

Daron Bradford is a member of the Orchestra on Temple Square. You will normally find Daron playing the clarinet, but he has the unique skill of being able to play ANY wind instrument, even a conch shell!

Gail (Hal) Halvorsen flew 3 missions a day into Soviet-blockaded Berlin in 1948, carrying candy for the German children. He became known as “The Candy Bomber.” Today, he turns 100 years old. Happy birthday from The Tabernacle Choir!

Visit the Choir library with us! The library holds over 2,500 titles, with 400 copies of each piece. There are pieces dating back to the 1920s! It is busy every week with 14 volunteer librarians who prepare and organize the music for the Choir.
