Since I haven't been able to find one, I created a Form & Sheet for Games Industry contacts.
Figured it could be nice to have a big ol' list for us to follow each other and have actual links vs. searching?
To the dude that said "I can tell this is an emotionally charged topic."
No shit - colleagues are being laid off, my own site has taken brutal hits, and there's genuine fear in how we'll be f'ed next. I don't give a fuck about your lofty AI hopes and dreams, I care about people.
@Shakacarnage
I wish, there are roughly 0 AI companies that will willingly pay for the content they're using.
OpenAI actively hides who they pull content from because they know they'll get sued into oblivion for copyright violation.
@bmgentile
@perplexity_ai
I honestly don't know. This, to me, is content theft.
It's taking content I paid someone to create, they spent hours creating, and re-using it for another company's revenue generation.
Longer-term? Nothing to steal because these sites lose the revenue it takes to create.
Transparently - the last 2 yrs have burnt me out. Since the algo update in Aug 2022, we've slowly been dropping.
I've had to let people go.
I've had to cut back on freelance spend.
I've spent $$ on dev & audits.
It's disheartening to watch the work of 11 years slowly crumble.
@Paradox_EP
Absolutely, but many of us have a massive focus on ensuring those aren't an issue on our site. Well blocked out, no layout shift. I've focused on those since 2018
Get used to the cookie popup, that's not sites' choice - that's regulation like GDPR, CCPA, etc requiring consent.
@ZanderEzekial
@LewieP
I'll just go ahead and post this here, because what Alex said is correct, but there's more detail to our "involvement" you should read.
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick told an employee he would have her killed. He kept an exec from being fired after a sexual harassment claim. He didn't tell his board of alleged rapes and other misconduct. Our

Nah, Kamala still has a strong chance IMO. Nearing 50M in donations on ActBlue since the announcement, and I see so much positivity around her.
Trump is scared, which is why he's laying the groundwork to drop out of debates and blame losing on Joe dropping out this late.
Pro-Tip: If you catch a snek in
@SeaOfThieves
, that snek will bite you while you carry it. And when you're near it in the cage. Keep it far away from you.
damn sneks.
BIG NEWS today for
@TechRaptor
!
I just got the signed contract for our first ever full-time writer!!!
PUMPED. Huge big step as an organization, and I can't wait to keep growing and expanding what this team does.

July kicks so much ass.
@LordRavenscraft
But Google says "WeRe NoT pLaGiArIzInG" though.
Glad we rolled out a "helpful content" update only to crap out AI-generated unhelpful content instead.
@Shakacarnage
Bing I’m not concerned with too much right now, this is Google’s SGE and there’s no way to block it without blocking core google crawling…which would kill the site :(
It's disappointing to hear stories about some large sites that don't pay at all, or don't pay well. At a certain size, you have to start paying to the highest possible amount you can. You HAVE to take care of your people.
A quick thread 👇🧵
@LotRLore
WeRe MaKiNg ThE WeB BeTtEr
Naw, you're fuckin' killing sites. Just to improve your profits or whatever w/ this nonsense. Super glad we can spend 100 man hours on a game for it to be summarized by this bullshit.
@helyearelyea
Yes, but only in a limited way. I can tell ChatGPT not to crawl, but with Google - you have to block Google's crawling entirely to be removed from the SGE portion.
Even then, robots.txt is purely a "hint" - if someone really wants to crawl your site, they'll do it anyway.
Great article from
@patrickklepek
on this. Guides are essential to this industry, and guide writers get the short end of the stick at many sites.
Big reason I'm raising pay, building full time positions with PTO and Flex time (Work 60 hours one week, 20 the next, etc) and more.
I'm finalizing the details, but on October 28/29 I'll be heading out to Google's Campus for a (invite-only) Creator Summit.
Gathering my thoughts, but I'm excited to have an opportunity to interface in-person with
@searchliaison
and the
@Google
team around search and publishing.
TechRaptor is growing immensely in Q4, and I'm looking to expand the team.
I'm REALLY looking for more guide writers (Cyberpunk/Fenyx/other), BUT we're always hiring people who are looking features, reviews, etc. Pay was raised on 11/15 sitewide.
DM's open, e-mail in bio!
The recent news surrounding Activision Blizzard is horrifying and upsetting. This industry continues to fail so many people, and we need change.
Internally, we have a great culture, and incredible people at
@TechRaptr
. But I (and my editors) can't see everything. 👇
If publishing minority & LGBTQ+ writers' thoughts and experiences in relation to gaming is "woke," that's totally cool with me.
It's important to have others share their experiences - it's how we connect as human beings
Be kind. Proud of my team @

Wrapped up
@TechRaptor
's financial year (give/take an expense or two), and we hit a MAJOR milestone!!
Excited for 2023, big announcement on Tuesday to kick off the year, but looking back - here's some of our 2022 wins:
Had to hold off until it was announced internally, but I accepted a new role at my day job this week!
Starting next week, my title will be "Leader, Account Management" and I'll be managing our Indy and Denver Account Management teams :)
Collecting IT titles like Pokemon!
Really excited for some things we have planned content-wise at TR.
That, and I'll finally be able to go to
@E3
this year! Was accepted as press last week!
What happened with GAMURS is the
#1
reason I continue to hold steady with my "not selling" mindset for the foreseeable future.
They have offered to buy multiple times, and each of those offers just felt...wrong. Didn't even make it to the $ portion.
As a self-funded, and privately owned site, I'm so proud of where
@TechRaptr
is now. Budget is 4x what it was last year, earnings have surpassed 2018's, and we've blown past 2018's views!
We have a HUGE site redesign w/ epic features coming, and I'm excited to share it soon!
It's such an awesome feeling to be at a size and profitability that we (
@TechRaptor
) can donate monthly to a charity like
@SafeInOurWorld
. Plan to increase over time as we grow.
Your mental health matters.
I have to say, really appreciate the relationships I've built in the gaming industry. It's nice to be able to DM someone and ask what they think of something, or if they're seeing similar behavior, etc.
@Codie_Sanchez
That equation means nothing if leadership doesn’t value their top performers (or any of their staff for that matter.)
Many companies refuse to pay their peoples’ worth until they make the move to leave. Been there, done that.
Doomposting aside, I do want to re-share that we're looking for "Staff Writers" now/2023 who enjoy:
- Reviews
- Features
- Strong Interviewers (video or written)
Details below & DM's are open, or hit me on Discord: Rutledge

Going to be deep into strategic planning for
@TechRaptor
over the next few weeks. Really analyzing what we're doing and focusing in on a long-term vision.
Determined to bounce back and grow bigger than before. My plans don't mention AI a single time, and they won't.
Going to have two full time positions available soon. 1 may go internal, but the second I'd like to hire someone external for the job.
In both, you write your own ticket and have the opportunity to shape an entire section of the site.
Will tweet them both soon!
Pay your staff. Pay your freelancers. Don’t play games with invoicing or people’s income.
One big reason we pay on publish, is to reduce the stress on our team and save them time on invoicing.
Post published, payment scheduled, writer gets emailed notifying them. Easy!
The growth
@TechRaptr
has seen over the last 6 months has been downright insane. Millions of pageviews, we're already at 60% of last years' views, and growing team of incredible people.
A quick thread on our growth and some thoughts on running a site/biz 👇👇
@iambrandonsalt
I'm livid today. Google actively eviscerating an entire industry isn't progress.
Plus, SEO's have already figured out how to hijack reddit. So...what was the point? Shitty SEO spammers gunna shitty SEO Spam
Today,
@TechRaptr
crossed the threshold for top 60,000 sites in the world on Alexa. Highest we've ever been.
3rd best month ever in April, consistent growth, and FOUR pay raises for staff in 6 months.
We're here to drop great content, and people are eating it up.
@MarmaladeBus
Yep, it'll pull bits from guides all around to make its answer and dissaude clicks.
"We have the links!" doesn't mean shit if there's no reason to click.
I'd sooner shut down TechRaptor than bring in AI in to replace or offset people.
I don't care if competitors are doing it - I'd rather pay and work with people than focus on quantity over quality.
It's a bittersweet day at
@TechRaptr
.
@ZanderEzekial
- Thank you for your time, dedication, and passion towards making our reviews high quality for the last 5 years. You will be missed, but I'm proud to see you moving forward in your career.
Two years later - we’ve grown 7x the size we were at this tweet. Dedication, hard work, and taking the time do things right pays off.
Our team
@TechRaptor
is kicking ass!
Gave our
@TechRaptor
news team a substantial (62%) and well-deserved raise effective today.
Still not good enough for me, but happy to continually make improvement there.
Diving into the numbers for features and guides next, to see where we can bump up pay there too!
@VinceZampella
@shealer_eric_
@PlayApex
🤦♂️Ya'll gotta stop doin' this "tease" stuff. Clearly, it's frustrating the community. Doesn't have to be every detail, just more substantial than emoji's and one-word answers.
It's less about the BP, and more about getting a lot of the issues fixed for me personally.
This boy is BACK HOME, and doing great! Pep in his step, playing with toys, and on the mend. It's been a trying few days, and I'm so happy my little buddy is ok!
I'm looking for more Writers (ESP Guide), for April, May, and the foreseeable future!
Upcoming games we're looking for writers:
Returnal
Pokemon Snap
RE: Village
Hood: Outlaws & Legends
Monster Harvest
Biomutant
*We don't know everything, so pitch us!*

Putting one of the best dogs ever down, so I’m going to a wreck for the next week. Brain tumor advanced too much. This is from one of his recent good days.
@lilyraynyc
They're so blinded by thinking this is good, they don't realize the long-term impact.
Guides are what keep sites like mine open, and give us the ability to do news, reviews, etc, which generally lose money in comparison.
I'm ACTIVELY looking for more people to write for us over at
@TechRaptor
!
We've grown a lot the last few months, and I want to build on that with more features, reviews, guides, and beyond!
If you want to learn more, hit this page, or just DM me!
Which is why we're (re)launching the ability for staff (and freelancers!!) to submit anonymous feedback. We've simplified the system from before - in hopes of acquiring more solid feedback to be a better company, and fix any issues that may have fallen under the radar.
The fact that I'm now actively starting to project/plan for full time employees @ TechRaptor is just ‼️‼️‼️
Excited for the future. Big things coming for both TR and OC, had a great time planning over the weekend.
Doing some business planning in between bouts of playing [REDACTED] - big things in the works for TechRaptor and OpenCritic for freelancers (and staff) :)
For every good SEO like
@lilyraynyc
or
@glenngabe
, it feels like there's 50 more peddling cheap tricks, shortcuts, and money-first mindsets.
SEO Twitter has been super cringe since the HCU, and it was already pretty cringe before. So much bad "advice" and unjustified outrage.
