@bmgentile @perplexity_ai I honestly don't know. This, to me, is content theft. It's taking content I paid someone to create, they spent hours creating, and re-using it for another company's revenue generation. Longer-term? Nothing to steal because these sites lose the revenue it takes to create.

Transparently - the last 2 yrs have burnt me out. Since the algo update in Aug 2022, we've slowly been dropping. I've had to let people go. I've had to cut back on freelance spend. I've spent $$ on dev & audits. It's disheartening to watch the work of 11 years slowly crumble.

@helyearelyea Yes, but only in a limited way. I can tell ChatGPT not to crawl, but with Google - you have to block Google's crawling entirely to be removed from the SGE portion. Even then, robots.txt is purely a "hint" - if someone really wants to crawl your site, they'll do it anyway.

Great article from @patrickklepek on this. Guides are essential to this industry, and guide writers get the short end of the stick at many sites. Big reason I'm raising pay, building full time positions with PTO and Flex time (Work 60 hours one week, 20 the next, etc) and more.

Pay your staff. Pay your freelancers. Don’t play games with invoicing or people’s income. One big reason we pay on publish, is to reduce the stress on our team and save them time on invoicing. Post published, payment scheduled, writer gets emailed notifying them. Easy!

Today, @TechRaptr crossed the threshold for top 60,000 sites in the world on Alexa. Highest we've ever been. 3rd best month ever in April, consistent growth, and FOUR pay raises for staff in 6 months. We're here to drop great content, and people are eating it up.

@lilyraynyc They're so blinded by thinking this is good, they don't realize the long-term impact. Guides are what keep sites like mine open, and give us the ability to do news, reviews, etc, which generally lose money in comparison.

Which is why we're (re)launching the ability for staff (and freelancers!!) to submit anonymous feedback. We've simplified the system from before - in hopes of acquiring more solid feedback to be a better company, and fix any issues that may have fallen under the radar.

For every good SEO like @lilyraynyc or @glenngabe , it feels like there's 50 more peddling cheap tricks, shortcuts, and money-first mindsets. SEO Twitter has been super cringe since the HCU, and it was already pretty cringe before. So much bad "advice" and unjustified outrage.
