@ElohoGM
My mom died when I was 12. Not as publicly and suddenly as Diana but her death still affects me till date and I’m almost 30. Harry is doing what anyone in his position would do
This time last year I was panicking because I wasn't sure I would be able to afford my MBA and make it to Spain.
A reminder that God is faithful and will provide what I need when I need it
My company was making plans to launch in Nigeria this year. That's been pushed back indefinitely because of the very real risk that is this country's regulators.
But if it's to claim glory for Paystack acquisition you will see them front and center.
I’m about the hit the 6 month mark at my job 🥹👩🏽💻
And to celebrate this milestone, here are some things I did within my first 100 days that set me up for success (and wildly positive performance reviews all round)
A thread 🧵
Early-ish days of Paystack, Shola would always recommend these 2 books: ‘The Hard Thing About Hard Things’ and ‘The Highgrowth Handbook’
Awesome reads if you’re a startup-er. Definitely re-reading the handbook this week ☕️
I know the decision to go back to school for an MBA gets a lot of flak on these streets but it’s been one of the best decisions of my life so far.
I’m learning so much
Actually jealous of people who have found their person. Literally the person they want to (and can) spend forever with.
It’s difficult in these streets
If you’re early or mid career stage, and wondering how to know the “right” startup to work at, let’s chat tomorrow!
I’ll be sharing some tips and opening the stage up to contributors 🛠
Hiring a new assistant to help me my life + brand.
Looking for someone who has worked in PR/marketing and has experience building personal brands.
Copywriting skills are essential. Role is remote + can be part-time. Pay is 100k. Email ibukunakinnawo[at]gmail[dot]com to apply
I took
@Mochievous
’ advice and messaged the CEO of a million $ company I had no business messaging a few weeks ago.
And guess what? I got a text back and booked a meeting with a director at the company last week
I turn 29 in a few months and I’m not sure how.
In some ways I feel like I’ve lived a longer life and in some other ways I still feel like a baby.
Growing up is a weird concept.
I’ve been getting questions about how I financed my MBA. To answer, it was a mix of:
1. A part scholarship from the school
2. A private loan from a previous employer (using equity in a company as collateral)
3. Savings from my last job
Are tech bros really broke? I think I want a tech bro — Depends on the company actually. In the right company, they get decent pay. It’s their lack of swag and game that’s the bigger pandemic now
I hate when fintech companies (of ALL the industries) invest so much in designing a beautiful website and treat customer onboarding as an afterthought.
There's so much value that is lost when the customer journey isn't properly thought out or curated.
Anyone looking to hire a remote operations manager or consultant, I’m your girl!
Would love to work with founders/startups building interesting things with technology so please send opportunities my way ❤️

NIBBS is the national switch and interbank settlement system. It belongs to the government of the country.
Fintechs can only build on the infrastructure that exists. It’s like asking car manufacturers why they don’t fix potholes on the road in Lagos
Top talent want to work on startups where they have agency and freedom to do their best work 🤭
You’re going to have a hard time attracting and retaining good employees if your company isn’t an enabling environment.
Learned this new Portuguese saying a few days ago and it’s been on my mind ever since:
“Não tenhamos pressa, mas não percamos tempo.”
Which translates to, “Let’s not be in a hurry but let’s not waste time.”
So simple, yet so profound.
Working as an assistant to the CEO at a tech startup is also a great way to get into tech.
I got my big break in tech when I became
@iaboyeji
's assistant.
If you're curious about assisting, I wrote a handbook you can find here
I’ll be co-hosting a space with
@AdoraNwodo
to talk about our Masters journey and answer any questions about getting a second degree 👩🏾🎓 👩🏾🎓 🏫
Set a reminder for our upcoming Space!
I’ve been using the same monthly budget template since October 2017 and it changed my life.
Used to be a really bad spender and never had “enough” but I saved for multiple holidays thanks to this.
Sharing for anyone who might need it too
As every company will become a FinTech so will every employee become an LP/VC. Happening already in the US & Gaining ground in Africa.
As an employee how are you positioning yourself to ultimately end up a VC or LP?
Well follow

They can simply state they do not wish to disclose that information. They’d be well within their right to say that.
Aside: the company requesting this before making an offer is a 🚩
1. I sat with my manager in my first week to discuss what success in my role would look like in clear, measurable metrics. I asked about pitfalls and faux pas to avoid.
Also identified key stakeholders within the org I would work with regularly and/or needed to keep happy
New year, same me preaching the tech career advancement gospel!
I’ll be sharing tips for getting your dream tech job + how to shoot good professional shots 🛠

10. Finally, I worked my ass off 😄 it’s been a busy but mentally rewarding couple of months.
You can be as visible and be as overcommunicative as you want but none of that matters if you don’t show workings.
Hope this helps!
Figure I'd bite the bullet and ask for help because I will certainly need it over the next few months.
I'm hiring an assistant to work with me to help me with life admin, and some support work in my consulting business.
I have love for you Abdul but I don't agree with this take. There are "professional" critics in every facet of life that don't necessarily do the thing they criticise (e.g music critics).
There are investors that have never founded companies that founders listen to and value
2. I joined a LOT of meetings sometimes just to listen in. This helped me understand how meetings are run in the org, different communication styles, the product, the business, etc.
And I asked many many questions on these calls or 1:1 in conversations with my manager
If you work at a small company, sure, this may not be necessary.
But if your company has close to 1000 employees or more, you will get lost in the noise. You're not the only one silently doing good work
You made a lot of sense tbh but personally I feel if you have to call peoples attention to your good work then maybe it’s not good enough.
Everyone can easily see what is good
📣 I provide:
1. personal coaching services to people just getting started in tech (or who want to get into tech)
2. consulting services to interesting early-stage (fin)tech startups
If interested in either, please fill the contact form on (please RT)
For my next trick, I will attempt to create a 4-hour work week schedule while going to school, improving my spanish, eating healthy, working out, going on dates, nurturing friendships and being a good daughter.
As someone who knew next to nothing about financial statement analyses, reporting and financial markets pre-MBA, I’m really proud to be getting above average grades.
Star girl ✨✨✨
Built and ran a virtual assistant agency during my NYSC year. Made N3.5m+ in revenue over a 20 month period.
Now working in Product Operations (and killing it) at Paystack.
About to complete my CompTIA Project+ certification and enter my final form 💪🏾
3. I scheduled 1:1 virtual coffee chats with my list of stakeholders to:
- introduce myself + establish comm lines
- learn more about them and what they do
- ask what pain points they had that they expected me to fix
- general tips they could share with me to succeed in the org
I want to fully experience this one life I have.
Make many memories, ask plenty questions and try different things.
When I die, I want to have really lived.
8. I hyper-focused on the success metrics my manager and I identified in my first week, and every month I brought her attention to any and all progress I made with those metrics.
It’s not enough to do good work. You have to call attention to the good work you’re doing
@Mochievous
She's a GP not a gynaecologist but she is phenomenal at listening, reassuring and answering questions. Dr Esther Adelopo (Bridge Clinic, Ikeja)
While conducting interviews for my upcoming study on Nigeria fintech fraud attacks- I realized, companies are bleeding cash from attacks on weekly basis.
A low trust market with high fraud attack patterns. We’ve estimated the cost damage of each attack. The numbers are crazy!
5. I looked for “low hanging fruits” I could immediately fix for my stakeholders.
I fixed them, documented those fixes and shared widely within my first 1-3 months.
Immediately demonstrating that I’m capable is CRITICAL. It sets the tone for how I am perceived moving forward
