I know we all have different tastes and opinions when it comes to gardens, but my oldest friend told me the other day that she didn't like mine, that it was too busy. I'll be honest, I'm still smarting at the comment!
Some early morning lushness from my garden to thank everyone for the many comments yesterday, and for all new followers. Sorry I can't reply to everyone, but I've never received such a deluge of likes and replies. Happy gardening!
Having never crocheted more than basic granny squares to make throws previously, here's my first attempt at a crocheted cardie. I didn't have a pattern, so made it up as I went along.
Just had a bit of an 'eek!' moment in the garden when the compost in a small seedling pot looked like it was moving only then for a toad to emerge from beneath the surface!
Made it to the end of

and then quietly sobbed. Well done to
@ITV
and all who made this series happen to highlight the extent of the injustice caused to so many innocent people. Bravo to Alan Bates!

Donโt tell my neighbours, but Iโm sitting in my garden wearing my pyjamas after a bath, drinking tea and eating After Eight Mints. Now thatโs a Friday night for you!
Imagine turning up at Westminster Hall after queuing for twelve-hours and finding that you're paying your respects with the Queen's children keeping vigil. What a moment in history!

BIG NEWS! With Japan finally lifting the last of its Covid restrictions I'm going to see my youngest son in Tokyo in November. It's 3 yrs since I last saw him and I'm like a dog with two tails I'm so excited!
For anyone contemplating making the journey for the Lying-in-State, I can say itโs absolutely worth it. It took me six and a half hours, but I shall never forget the day.
I can't get it out of my head how the Queen had the strength and willingness to carry out her duties right to the end when she met with Boris and then Liz Truss just a few days before her death.
Hello followers new and old! I'm offering a signed copy of my latest book

to win for this coming Bank Holiday Weekend! Just RT this post, making sure you follow me and I'll pick a winner at random Wednesday evening, that's tomorrow. Good luck!
I've been deliberately out of the news and social media loop since Friday evening and have enjoyed an uplifting weekend of gardening and beautiful weather.
There arenโt many ways to pay our respects legally at the moment, this however, is amazing. Well done all those taxi drivers, losing money, and still they come out to mark this somber time of mourning.

Big excitement for me, I won first prize in the handicrafts category at the village show today for my sweater which I designed and knitted. I also snatched a couple of thirds and a second place. Tickled pink!
The grass and edges have been cut and the tablecloth made a long awaited appearance in the garden for a read with tea and biscuits. I call that a perfect Sunday afternoon!
Hello
@GardensHour
in answer to your question, the thing that's brought me the most joy in the last week of ferocious heat is the cool shade of the courtyard area of my garden.
#GardensHour
It has become something of a tradition for me, a cheese and onion crisp sandwich on publication day, there's nothing better! And yes, it has to be soft white bread.
I'm properly wrung out after all that and I can't imagine how the Royal Family have endured the day, what stoicism and resolve. They must be so ready for some quiet time away from the cameras.

Another weekend gone and another knitting project completed. This one I designed myself and I wasn't sure I liked it until it was finished. I've decided I do!
I really, really, really hate taking selfies, but what's a girl to do when the smart-as-paint hardbacks of her new book have arrived? Thank you
@HQstories
for the surprise!

Cause for a small celebration ... the manuscript of my 24th novel has now left the house! Meanwhile, and because I'm old school, my paper copy resides inside these two red files.
Kirsty Young delivers an emotional monologue as she signs off the BBCโs eleven days of coverage.
โShe made history, she was history. Queen Elizabeth II has gone, but she will surely never be forgotten.โ
I spy with my beady little cataract-free eye, birthday flowers! Yep, I've clocked up another year and can definitely now see more laughter lines on my face! ๐
It's official, I skived off work today and went to Felixstowe for a fish and chip lunch on the pier. My first meal out at a restaurant since last summer and it was fabulous!
Hurrah, it's my birthday and the sun is shining! Better still, for elevenses I'm enjoying a slice of Christmas cake kept specially for the occasion. I've also enjoyed a lovely chat with my youngest son in Tokyo, so I'm a happy birthday girl.
After all the palaver of a cancelled and then a delayed flight, I can report that Christmas with my grandchildren in LA is off to a fantastic start. Thank you to everyone who crossed their fingers that I would make it here. X
Still thinking about the dire first episode of

and my conclusion is that the wonderful Penelope Wilton would make an excellent Miss Marple for any future 'proper' Agatha Christie adaptations.
Hello
@GardensHour
Can anyone put me out of my misery and tell me what this huge plant with white flowers is in my garden? I planted it three years ago and each year I cut it right back down to the ground and it comes back over 6' tall the next year.
#gardenshour
It was much too cold to go for a walk today, so I stayed in and messed about with my dolls house. I added a new floor to the hall, put in the stair carpets, put up curtains and pictures, set the table in the dining room and painted a chair gold.
#LockdownProject
Roses from the garden, which I don't normally pick as I like to leave the jewels in situ, but since it was quite breezy today, I decided to rescue them.
Never let it be said that I don't know how to treat myself on a lockdown birthday, not when I've had the pleasure of tackling this wonderful take-away Afternoon Tea from
Too cold to garden today, so I've been doll's house pottering by working on a 12th scale needlepoint rug (v hard going on my aged eyes!) and adding the flooring to the maid's room in the attic and which still needs a lot doing to it.
Big scary day for me today, I'm having cataract surgery! For those who already knew and offered words of encouragement, thank you so much. Cross those fingers for me, please!
Wishing a Happy Mother's Day to all the women who do one of those toughest jobs going! But I'm going to dedicate the day to all the Ukrainian mothers who have been forced to leave their country with their children in order to keep them safe.

We've had sheds and gardens being shared on Twitter, and now our bookshelves. Brilliant! Here's my contribution - yellow library and gold study where I work.

Following on from yesterday and my trip to London for the Queen's Lying-in-State, here's a photo of me with the Queue Buddies I made within minutes of joining

It sounds like I chose the right day to go, but good luck and best wishes to all those there today.
Worth noting how superbly well George and Charlotte did as they walked behind their grandmother's coffin. Two shining stars of the future.

This was the last thing I expected to see last night after feeling unwell all day, so bang goes my trip tomorrow to LA to see my son and his family. Send garden pics and photos of fast cars to cheer me up, please!
My first time on a train to London in two years and apart from the ticket collector I seem to be the only one wearing a mask, but thatโs okay, personal choice and all that.
I've wanted to come to Burgh Island for years and years and finally I'm here staying at the famous Art Deco Hotel. It's beyond perfection, off the chart bliss!
I have been out for lunch for the first time since lockdown began! To a pub. And I put on a dress. With smart shoes. I even wore a necklace. It felt amazingly good, and safe.

Christmas pudding is not just for Christmas, it's for my birthday weekend too! Because I love it so much every year I make an extra one and keep it for my birthday.
That time again already
@GardensHour
where do the days go? Here's my contribution tonight for

lawn and edges cut and the borders filling out.
Three yrs ago today I moved house and the first pics show how the garden is now compared to how it was then with zero colour. Admittedly it's a bit shaggy today after all the rain, but I like to think it's an improvement ...
