Traditional Belfast Saloon Bar first opened in 1885. After a few name changes we brought the original bar back along with Bell’s Brewery first est. in 1778.
As Belfast's
#1
grotty pub according to Graham, we thought we'd mark the occasion with a little Friday giveaway😉
To win this ltd edition T-Shirt & a filled Growler of any Bell's Brewery beer of your choice, simply like this post & tag a friend 🍻
We'll pick a winner next week!
Devastated for our neighbours in the Cathedral Building on Donegal Street this morning. An iconic building full of great businesses on a neglected street is not what the area needs or deserves. Hope everyone is ok 🙏
This popped up on Facebook this morning. Anyone remember our neighbour? The old Delaney's restaurant. Corner of Lombard Street and Rosemary Street, Belfast. c1980s
What a great place that was to get a bite to eat and look at the character it had. Now just a coffee chain outlet ☹️
Well the time has come. The builders start on Monday turning our beautiful building back into The Deers Head. First opened in 1885 we are bringing the history back to a once iconic Belfast drinking saloon.
Exciting times ahead.

Where else would you get a 50plus strong singalong on a Wednesday night in the city?
The Deer’s Head with the Belfast Ukulele Jam, that’s where!
I Useta Lover - The Saw Doctors
Hello…we are not closed! Neither is the Tivoli Barber shop. Two long running established North Street businesses. Area is a disgrace and the new
@Translink_NI
bus lane has made the road even less appealing.
This is one of the main streets in my city. Look at the decay. Everything is closed or derelict. This is happening in every city now. Something needs to change.
..full of history and full of great people... customers who have become friends and finally staff... great staff who love what they do.
So Graham, why not call in and see what we do before slagging off a place you obviously haven’t been to?
If it wasn't for the
@TheDeersHead1
on the other side of Lower Garfield St, the place would be a complete wasteland.
Our city centre has suffered due to the failure of big promises by developers. BCC Planning Committee must do much better in scrutinising applications.
Delighted to welcome

in
@CastleCourt
to our side of town. Was over tonight for a private screening and a look at the setup and let’s just say it’s pretty cool. Good luck guys 🙏
So this was the plan for North Street by Castlebrook as part of their Tribeca development, a lovely pedestrianised street leading into the city centre. Reminds me of the TV game show 3,2,1 with Dusty Bin….’look at what you coulda won!’
Not that the area is bad enough but now they have taken away all car parking spaces & just made a bus route past our venue
@Translink_NI
. We have also lost all the disabled parking spaces
@disabilityni
. We need soul & life brought back to a once great area

Well
#CastlebrookInvestments
any chance you could give this forgotten part of your
@Tribeca_Belfast
on Lower Garfield Street a little attention before somebody gets injured?
Very frustrating that we have invested so much to revive the area but your development has floundered.
We closed in January to start our transformation back to The Deer’s Head. 9 months later we were about to reopen....and then ‘hospitality lockdown 2’ was announced. Four more weeks won’t hurt. It will give us time to perfect our craft. Stay safe and we will see you next month.

This week we have had the

on Wed, traditional Irish Dancing on Thurs, our weekly trad session earlier today & tonight the 1st of 4
@BelCityBlues
shows running until Sun. Not bad…for a backstreet pub!
We are delighted to see life returning to this side of the town.🙏
Call down and give us a visit. It’s a proper pub with proper drinks and proper staff.
You know…..proper👍
As Graham, today’s entertaining star caller on the
@StephenNolan
show said live on air this morning, ”Tourists don’t get off the boat and want to go to some grotty pub in North Street!” In fact he added, “Why would I want to go to some grubby little back street bar...
Our neighbour. For the love of God
@Tribeca_Belfast
get your ass in gear and bring this arcade back. It’s the least you can do for your participation in the demise of our surrounding area by the lack of development.
The old North Street Arcade, Belfast. It ran from North Street to Donegall Street. Opened in 1936 and closed after a fire in 2004 and our politicians sit on their backside and let this once beautiful arcade rot. An absolute shame.
We love to give a nod to Belfast bars of days gone by with our Bell's Brewery creations. Our city has had so many iconic spots and it's only right to mark them, right here in Belfast's first historical pub to be brought back to its original name🍻
What nostalgic pub next?

@nidirect
guys any chance you can sort out the blocked drain on Lower Garfield Street which we have reported on numerous occasions? We have just spent 18mths and vast amount of money investing in a very depressed area of Belfast so a little help would be appreciated 🙏
This week is three years since we first reopened our doors and brought back The Deer’s Head and Bell’s Brewery.
The photo is what 3 years worth of brewing looks like - 57 beers later and we aren’t finished yet.
So let’s raise a glass to the past, the present and the future🍺
So this is what Belfast looked like 2 years after The Deer’s Head was opened for the first time. Something majestic about how the city looked back then.
Our street cleansing teams work hard to maintain our city.
Take a glimpse into the hard work of our nightshift city centre team & their efforts ⬇️
Thanks to the team for everything they do👏
wasted money put into businesses which aren’t economically viable and should be let go and disappear?”
Why indeed Graham? Just look at us... A grubby back street bar…with our grubby copper coated craft brewery… full of music… full of character... full of stories...
This is the sort of good news story the streets of Belfast needs right now.
Congratulations to the

Big fan of your work guys 🙏

North Street Arcade
Built in 1936. An Art Deco shopping arcade in the Cathedral Quarter
It was a chic space with individual units over three floors, a tiled walkway and glass roof, the arcade was built with a curving alignment.

Not good on our behalf, as it makes the street an empty place in the evening and hard to encourage anyone to walk down it. We have also lost disabled parking bays that were used by many of our regulars and also space for the live acts who play our music venue to park and load-in.
Tribeca Belfast: Castlebrooke said "nobody is more frustrated than us at the pace of progress with this scheme".
What? They are frustrated?
‘hold our beer’ 🤦♂️

As a new, independent BrewPub coming to Belfast City Centre as soon as the never-ending lockdowns are over, we’re keen to support other local breweries on our beer menu, tasting events & draught taps.
Proud to announce that Bell's Brewery has joined the draught line-up at Bittles Bar! 🍻
You can now find a rotating Bell's tap in this iconic Belfast pub. Look how happy John is to have us pouring 😉 Thanks to him and his team for their continued support
@MarkRobinsonNI
Mark, work is currently on going inside with phase 1 opening before the summer. Over the next 2 years the building will be brought back to life whilst keeping the integrity of the character of the building intact.
As they said in the film Jaws….‘I think we need a bigger boat’. Always a great night for visitors with the guys from the
@belfastukejam
doing what they do best 👌
Has to be the best midweek night in the city.
Did you know that every beer🍻we brew is named after a Belfast bar that no longer exists. North Star was the name of the former hotel where the Deers Head now sits. The Monkey Saving The Goat dates back to 1808 and the Black Bull sat on North Street. What history and what beer👍
Could
@belfastcc
rent out the old JJB Sports on Royal Avenue to create an "Artists & Flea Market" giving independent vendors a lower barrier to entry with a smaller, more affordable stall in a great location.
No matter what is happening in the outside ‘real world’ (and it’s been better to be fair)….we’re feeling fine with the guys from the

@AineGroogan
Would like to know plans for the scaffolding down Lower Garfield Street? The once beautiful building it is supporting is just crumbling away. An eyesore and dangerous for the numerous young folk who have climbed through it on many occasions over the past 3-4years.
Lower Garfield Street has had a makeover✨
Thank you to
@seedheadarts
& Belfast One for collaborating to showcase local street artists and brighten up the area. Check out

Another amazing photograph looking across Arthur Square aka Cornmarket c1906. Looking towards William Street South (entrance to
@Victoria_Square
) on the left and Arthur Street on the right.
The building to the right looks so grand compared to the Starbucks building today.
Brewing in Belfast was thriving in the late 1700s & early 1800s. However the advanced technology & techniques at St James’s Gate in Dublin wiped out the brewing industry in Belfast. Our Red Ale however proved so popular…we dropped Smithwicks…..so the fight back has begun 🥊
We were so excited to finally open our doors on Friday and then lockdown 2.0 was announced 🤦♂️ We weren’t planning on launching with food initially and with doubts around wet bars opening, we're not really sure when we can welcome you in yet.
We’ll keep you posted. Keep safe!
Well if it isn’t the
@belfastukejam
getting their ‘teenage kicks’ down Lower Garfield Street as usual on a Wednesday night. Hard to beat a little bit of
@TheUndertones_
right through the night!
Such a fabulous photo that brings me right back. What a time that was. The city had so much character and the North Street end of the city had so much life…not like today. Dobbins Store, the famous Alhambra Theatre….and our corner balcony on the left. The city needs to change🙏
What a stunning photograph of our once theatrical neighbour. Like ourselves that building would have some stories worth telling.
Anyone remember it?
Alhambra Theatre, North Street, Belfast. Photo taken from Lower Garfield Street. c1954.
Delighted to be working with some of Northern Ireland’s finest breweries! Whilst we have several of our own Bell’s Brewery beers on draught, we’ve also got taps & a can/bottle range from other NI breweries, so there’ll always be something new (and local) every time you visit
Since reopening back in 2021, woman have always been to the fore in our team. So today we will raise a glass to them, the remarkable ladies who contribute so much to life in the Deer’s Head.
Thank you for your tireless efforts and endless dedication

For any visitor to the city this is a great night out….and on a Wednesday night too! 👌
Lights on for service💡It was always our intention pre-Covid to offer table service to our patrons & this will be the case long after it's gone.
Next time you're in, feel free to use the On/Off switches that we installed in the booths & window seats to order your next round.🍻
Invented by Irishman Jospeh Sheridan in 1942, the original Irish Coffee was developed to soothe & revive the spirit. Our goblet of choice is a dainty 8oz stemmed glass that’s shaped to show off a snow cap of whipped cream and prevents an oversized pour of coffee. Just perfect 👌
As many of you have been asking, it’s time we gave you an opening update…
Well it’s no secret that we’re bringing The Deer’s Head back to its traditional roots and creating the Saloon Bar that we all once knew and loved.
It’s a very happy Christmas down in our music hall tonight with the

Christmas Party🎅🎄.
This has to be the best midweek night out in the city👌
Come along and join in or simply come down and enjoy the fun.
Just watch the video and you can thank us later.

Stunning pic of the what the Bank of Ireland Building on North Street used to look like. Would be great to see this end of town being as busy as it was back at the start of the 1900's.
That’s a dirty old night out there…..in a ‘dirty old town’…..but the craic’s great down our way!
This is happening NOW! 👀
It’s the best midweek night in the city 👌
