Hot take, but Fire Emblem starting in medias res with a cutscene or small chapter comes off as sloppy & forced most of the time. It worked in Awakening, yes. But every other attempt tries to capture that bottled lightning without recognizing the theming that made it work there.

In FEH, meta relevance may be fleeting, but a good callback to the source material is eternal. Marisa swaps her sword to her left hand when activating a special as a callback to her Tethys support. Most art doesn't change more than FX or expressions, so this is fairly rare.

As iconic as Lyn's FE7 sprite is, it's kinda weird how she has long sleeves in it, no? Given all her official art depicts her in short sleeves. Of all of her art, the ONLY illustration I could find with loose, long sleeves was a piece drawn by Wada at a Cipher event in 2017.

Ike's Lord design from Path of Radiance might be one of the most underrated fits in FE. It adapts some of his father's design elements like the coat and armor, while still feeling distinctly "Ike" with the cape, breastguard, & headband. Wish we'd see it in more stuff, it's rad.

As much as Awakening's redesigns sometimes swung and missed, god was Lyn's a home run. It's not even just a copypaste of the generic F!Swordmaster design. The concept sketches iterated on multiple ways to abstract her original outfit's. Can see why the design was reused in FEW.

Did You Know? In Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest, if you're able to deal the final blow to Takumi while he's under the effects of the Hexing Rod, you get a secret ending. This was left undiscovered for so long due to the Hexing Rod not being naturally obtainable in that route.

I really enjoyed playing Engage, but I might not consider it a great starting game long term. For new FE players, initial story & character appeal trumps gameplay. Engage is decidedly a game for FE fans, where nostalgia & great mechanics balance a less ambitious story. (1/12)

Legendary Hinoka appears to take her design from the Cipher Card where she's the "Hoshidan Queen" class. While she's a Falcon Knight within Conquest, this card & likely this alt is post-CQ where she becomes Queen. Hinoka's using the Hoshidan Regalia b/c Takumi & Ryoma are dead.

Path of Radiance has a bond support mechanic you might not know about. As an example, if Ike's next to Soren, Soren's protected from ALL critical hits. Soren's the only unit Ike does this for. I'd imagine [Assign Decoy]'s implementation is a hybrid of this and his Engage skill.

Divine Pulse is returning in Engage as the Dragon Time Crystal item. Some are happy for it, others want it gone on higher difficulties. Rewind seems here to stay for FE, & I think it's a great feature for series accessibility. I do agree that it can cheapen higher difficulties.

I played the Unicorn Overlord Demo for 7 hours straight. Solidified it as the easiest day 1 purchase I'll have made in forever. It's beyond impressive. Beautiful, mechanically deep, & scratches my FE SRPG itch. If you're an FE fan, you owe it to yourself to at least try the demo.

One of my favorite little things about Path of Radiance is how most sword units are depicted with their weapon in their portraits. This was even extended to bosses. This trend was dropped in Radiant Dawn, but thankfully was brought back in some form for Awakening. #FireEmblem
