Just had somebody show up to my local Store Champs with Liliana of the Dark Realms in their deck.
Because the companion app says it's legal. It also says that many cards from DMU, ONE and BRO aren't legal.
I AM SO OVER THIS TAKE. It is stupid and ridiculous. Hearing it from so many prominent faces is so infuriating. Restrictions>bans are so absurd and annoying, and making competitive changes at all care about flavor makes no sense. I am usually good at shutting up, not this time.
In general I don't want to see Modern turn to restrictions rather than bannings, but I could get behind a one-time exception for The One Ring. Would solve the power level issues and also be a big flavor win.
I ended the RC in 14th place with Red Fish after going 11-3. Expected a lot of cascade, and played vs it in literally half of the rounds. Great meta call. Teammate went 10-4 with 73 of my 75. Here's the list. I'll put up a SB guide if folks are interested!
Finally got the last 2 cards for the deck so that i can actually post the photo ๐
Hope you all enjoy my take on our take of Nadu (we all ended up very close to the same, but not exactly the same)
This is the one thing I've wanted more than anything for literally over 15 years. I am BEYOND ecstatic. Thanks to everyone who helped with cards and strategy!!!!
25th Place feels so sick. I have been so lucky to get to this point in so many specific spots. I have so many people to thank. I'll make a longer post soon haha
I ended PT Seattle in 31st place at 10-6, which qualifies me for PT Amsterdam in June!! I could never have made it without the amazing Team Coalition Victory! Congrats to
@MasterPepo_
in particular for reaching an AMP amount that likely sends him to Worlds!
As promised, I'll make a longer post at some point when I'm home.
But Nicole and I q'ed in the same round, and she is the main reason I had any chance at all. I can't express how important this woman is to me right now. Thank you and congrats, Nicole!!!!! ๐ฅฐ
I did not talk about this publicly yet, but I have been working with
@SanctumOfAll
for this PT and it has been an incredible experience so far.
I am a part of our Nadu contingent and am very confident in our build of the deck (will likely post deckpic tomorrow).
Deck Pic for what I'm playing at PT Thunder Junction this weekend. Decklists were due at noon, I'm feeling really good about all our sideboard plans. From now through thursday night: mono-Drafting
I'm finally home, so here we go๐งต:
This last weekend, I played at PT MH3 as a part of team
@SanctumOfAll
. This was one of the best experiences of my life, including the time leading up to it.
I went 10-5-1 overall, and played our build of UG Nadu. This qualifies me for Worlds!
To follow up my nice performance at the PT, I played both Thursday Modern challenges.
I got my first challenge top 8 with the first one!
And then my first challenge win with the 2nd!!!
Play the bird while you can :P
2nd place in tonights pio challenge with a brainworm that hit me and
@VioletViatt
last week.
Felt pretty solid - deadly dispute ramps you into ripper, sorin gives devil deathtouch, the synergies are everywhere!
@Mengu09
@ScottHevel
@lsv
@mtgbentcard
It's two replacement effects, so I'm pretty sure you get to choose! (The clients just know that you will always choose more counters, so it does it for you :P )
@fireshoes
The losses of Russian and Korean were frustrating, but now losing Chinese and Portugese is ridiculous! There is a very active playerbase in Brazil and China that this affects in a very real way. I am disappointed.
Here's the Sideboard Guide!
Please take the time to read the attached "primer" as well. It explains some of my thoughts around this particular list. โค๏ธ
Ended day 1 at 6-3. Just barely made it by top decking well vs. D00mwake for the revenge. (He beat me in a win-and-in in San Diego).
Feeling good,
@ItsNotGoodJonny
also made it at 6-3
I won a 64-player single-elim cube!!! first deck was fun bc my mana was bad, second deck was fun bc I pivoted after seeing a late-ish LED while green cards were drying up <3 This feels so great after having a real rough time winning anything lately.
Well I had a bunch of unlucky draws, and 1 big 'old misplay, so I didnt make it to day 2. I was still happy I made it at all, and we ended up doing some 2 headed giant and mystery booster drafts where I ripped a mana crypt! Still a winner!! I'll get 'em next time <3
Huge thanks to
@KryptonGamingNE
for the meal!
you helped us eat well while on our GenCon trip. Had to represent the best store in Omaha while in the trenches, winning and winning :)
Ended day 1 4-4. Qualified for day 2, but pretty bummed to lose the last 3 in a row. I've still got a good shot at everything, so I will simply draw better and play better tomorrow
Sorry for not keeping Twitter in the loop, but this weekend I played Mono White Mid at RC San Diego. Started the day 5-1 and felt great, but lost 3 win-and-ins in a row to miss day 2. Had a great weekend with awesome friends anyways <3 Next time we'll get there.
No person who finds success in a field like this did it alone. Its kind of impossible to believe how lucky I am to be here sometimes. I find myself tearing up constantly at how unreal it is. So many dominoes had to fall exactly right. I'm thankful to everyone for making it happen
I have been trying for this kind of success for a long time. Before I had the resources to make it happen, my local magic community believed in me and pushed me to do my best. Thanks
@RS_Wesss
@VioletViatt
@jessebeacs
@ESP_MTG
@IRLcardbot
and many others in the Omaha scene!!
This made my day, and I'm not even gonna be there. Magic culture is so much better bc of Nate Holt, and having him there for the return of the PT is absolutely the only way to have it
@hexsharpe
This is hard for me. I've been wanting to mess with enby stuff for a looooong time, but although I think that fits the way I feel about myself better, I -do- like a lot about my male self, and its hard for me to consider jumping in on that with the worry I won't like it as much.
Just had to eliminate my brother
@ItsNotGoodJonny
in the quarterfinals of
#NRGMIN
Was a close one and I got pretty dang lucky. Gonna need some more like that to finish the job in the morning ๐
@CainRianhard
thanks for letting me on the team, and making me feel like I belonged. You reminding me to look after my health during the event made me feel seen and cared for <3
I'm sure a lot of you know that the MTGArena Open was today. I made it to 7-2 on my second try with this monster of a deck. Jonny and I have been working our asses off to make this deck do something, and today it did!
@BenS_MTG
@MagicEsports
This may sound dumb, but I've been really empowered by the trend of good players talking about when they lose on the social medias. Its not all good in a game like magic, and its nice to be reminded that even the best have bad times - and honestly somewhat often!
Also, what a wonderful sendoff for my dear, dumb Bird friend.
Nadu, you were not good foe the game, but you were very good to me, and I'll always remember you fondly for it <3
I teamed with
@RS_Wesss
(yesterday's champion) and another Omaha friend for the Teams NRG event today and we went 5-2 for 12th out of 80-something teams and more cash than we paid as entry.
Overall a killer weekend for Omaha and an absolute joy. Thanks
@NRGSeries
for the events!
I have a lot of people to thank, but the team as a whole is the biggest one. Our limited prep was fantastic and let me go 4-2 in limited at the highest level once again. Our daily discussions and testing in Modern made sure that I felt confident in our decklist.
Now for specifics

I was extremely lucky to play you at RC Dallas. You are kind and generous and passionate. You inviting me to join Sanctum was such a surprise and there is ZERO chance I would be here without you. Thank you so much, and I'm so happy you made it too <3
Less directly related to this exact event, but I almost forgot one of the bigger reasons I was able to qualify for the PT at all in Denver:
@ReanimatorFiend
@BenTaylorMTG
and the rest of the I-29 team. Working with y'all was the start of getting me really really motivated again.
After RC Atlanta, I am the highest rated active Nathan*el in the world! There is one inactive player who is higher, Nathaniel Smith, who was also an Omaha player!
In a week, I'll be fighting among many prolific Cube Drafters to prove who the greatest Cuber in the world is in the
@AlfaPhrog
Cube Invitational! (sponsored by Cardhoarder)
I plan to stream a few cubes in the days leading up to it, gonna be a blast <3
And even before that was
@realmlord1
and
@ItsNotGoodJonny
, My Father and Brother respectively. We taught each other the game growing up, and cemented it as the main foundation for most of my life. Magic is insanely important to me, and my family is directly wound into that.
@makememesnotwar
Your energy during limited prep in particular was so fun and infectious. I cannot wait to play Mental Magic at the next event you make it out to. I have faith that you'll be jamming with us again sooner rather than later
Finally, thank you to my Husband and partner
@Chantiment
who has supported me through all of this, even when I'm being unreasonable. He will be accompanying me to Vegas for Worlds, hopefully I can get him in on a draft or two while there <3
For those that might have missed seeing my matches on camera this weekend, I really enjoyed them, even with the small misplays I did make:
start at 4:15:10 for rd 4 vs. AmuLIT Titan
start at 7:04:55 for rd 7 vs. Living End
@JasonILTG
Being able to work directly with you for this event has been unlike anything else. Finding our many similarities has been validating, fun, and comforting. Our deep discussions on combo lines were some of my favorite parts of prep. Wish we had ended up on Regress ๐คฃ
Hey
@magicprotour
This day is Forever etched into my memory as one of the greatest ones ever. I beat
@efropoker
on camera with all my friends around the world watching (even if it was cuz he bricked a million turns in a row) to go 9-0. It was only my 2nd or 3rd day 2 ever

@FedericoMartani
Do you have any clue who the absolute best in the game are? The exact people you're complaining about are those who are out there killing it in the competitve scene. You have no clue what you're talking about
@boros83158
This is just how he always is. This isn't new behavior at all. He salts in person and on Twitter constantly.
He isn't a bad person in general, but he is a miserable loser and I don't think he'll ever change.
