Venturing outside of Austin...A California developer want's to build a 134-story, 1,750' hotel & apartment tower in OKC. It would be the second tallest building in the U.S. behind the World Trade Center tower in NYC. I give this a less (much less) than a 50-50 chance of
The City is seeking input on turning Congress Ave on the south side of the Capitol building into a pedestrian plaza. This would be between 7th St. & 11th St. From the Austin Business Journal:
"Public input is being sought regarding the so-called Congress Avenue Urban Design

Thanks to Mopacs at Skyscraperpage for this. This is the same view looking towards Rainey circa 2006 and now. In just a year in a half this will look a lot different when the U/C towers including the supertall are topped out.
This was created by Studioinnovatus and was originally posted on Skyscraper Page. It shows the Travis and Modern Austin towers that have already broken ground as well as the Ritz and 98 Red River supertall that appears to have already broken ground.
Here's a rendering of the approved Verde Square mixed use project. If this rendering is accurate, this will be one of my favorite projects in Austin including downtown.
For those who may have missed today's big skyscraper news. The proposal for the Avenue Lofts site at 410 E. 5th got bigger today. It's now called the Wilson Tower and is 80-stories and 1,035'. Another new tallest for Austin and Texas.
It's amazing that Austin with an MSA population of 2.4 Million is getting a supertall that will be the tallest building in Texas. The only other cities in the U.S. with supertalls have MSAs with more than 6 million.
The Design Commission unanimously recommended the density bonus needed for the 506 West residential tower to move forward. It was noted during the meeting that some of the parking levels are designed to be converted to residential levels if/when the need for parking is less in
I was wandering around West Texas during the past week and mostly out of communication. But it's time to get back to Austin Skyscraper news. The 610', 53-story 6th & Rio Grande tower is up for its Density Bonus at tomorrow's (09/23) Design Commission meeting. These are the

This is the current zoning and pending zoning changes for building heights in North Austin. There is no opposition, so some final Planning Commission and City Council actions should not be an issue.
Things may not be looking good for the 755' Conrad Hotel & Residential tower. The project's website is no longer active, and the sales center (that never opened) at 3rd & Guadalupe has removed all signage.

This is a surprise - to me at least. After seemingly abandoned since late last year, the site plan application for the 510', 44-story Wilson tower has recently come back to life with new updates. Still not confident in this project happening, but at least it's moving closer to
New elevations were finally released for the withdrawn and resubmitted site plan for the 506 West residential tower. Based on the height info I had for this project previously, it's still 48-stories but one foot shorter at 564'. But one huge improvement is that the south side

Here's a marketing brochure for the plans to clean up Dirty 6th. It's from Shop Companies and Stream Realty who owns much of the Sixth St. Entertainment District. Note that Dirty 6th is referred to as "Old 6th". There are a lot of renderings in the brochure:
A site plan was filed for a six or maybe seven-story condo building for this ugly stretch of E. Riverside. There will be 72 condos and some ground floor retail. The project is called The Summit and the address is 1605 E. Riverside.
So true. This CVC affects a huge area of potential downtown development , i.e. homes and tax base for the City. And this is a City (as opposed to State) defined CVC that the City could easily remove with one City Council vote.
That 15-story office building on the south side of the river was designed by KPF who also designed Waterline. Hence the appearance of Water line in the renderings. The project is named One Ladybird Lake. This may be the most attention getting 15-story building ever in Austin.
