Maryland fans need to give a huge amount of appreciation to Danny Manning. He walked into a situation, acting as an assistant to a friend and former teammate, had that guy quit on him and the team mid-season, and did a damn fine job keeping this team together. Thanks, Danny!
It almost feels like Mark Turgeon and his agent have hired a PR firm to try to rehash his image and blame Maryland fans for him quitting on his team and doing a mediocre job for the 10+ seasons he was at Maryland.
Maryland basketball has always been probably my favorite sport, the one I cared most about. I've had the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. But now, after a decade+ of Mark Turgeon, the losses don't matter. I'm just apathetic towards Maryland. Not great
@Evans_TerpsAD
My Dad passed away on Thursday evening just after Maryland lost to Iowa. Today, the

Illinois on the road, and the Steelers are getting their asses kicked. Not bad, Dad. Not bad at all.
Maryland was very unfortunate in that one of the biggest Orioles games in a decade was also happening last night. 46k there. Outsiders who know nothing about the area don't realize that Maryland has to compete with Orioles, Ravens, Commanders, Nats, Wizards, Caps.
Maryland fans should be embarrassed about the attendance at tonight’s game against Virginia. I know G5 schools that are better than this. At least the Student Section showed up, for now.
The most Maryland football thing ever is the Terps beating Rutgers to become bowl eligible and knocking the Scarlet Knights out of a bowl only to have Rutgers end up in the *Gator Bowl* to replace a team who has to pull out due to Covid. Unbelievable.
There was a Ravens game John Madden was broadcasting and they showed the Ravens band and I, a trombone player in the band, might have been on the screen (I can't remember) and then Madden says something like "Why would anyone want to play trombone?" RIP to the 🐐
The fact that it's February 22nd and we're talking about Maryland having the possibility of getting a double-bye in the Big Ten Tournament is wild. Brilliant job by Willard.
With Coach K's impending retirement, I'm hearing that Duke could be open to playing Maryland in the Big Ten - ACC Challenge in the years ahead. New head coach Jon Scheyer doesn't hold the same animosity towards Maryland that Mike Krzyzewski does & wants to revive the rivalry
Here's a solution - the Nationals can honor the deal they agreed to as a condition of their move inside what had become Baltimore's market share. The agreement is supposed to benefit Baltimore disproportionately to mitigate & compensate for the Nats coming to DC. This isn't hard.
MLB 'getting involved' really just sounds like them asking the Orioles nicely. I'm no lawyer but I don't see a magic bullet here. You can hear the different voices in this story. In no uncertain terms, the MASN shabingus continues to be THE drag.
Man, hearing Juan Dixon give his pregame speech and seeing him work the sidelines, it definitely makes you think about him at Maryland. He's already gone further in a conference tournament than Turgeon did during his Maryland tenure 😉
Gotta say, I've always admired Jay Wright. And the way he retired, not doing a kiss the ring tour like Coach K, made me like him even more. Just the exact opposite of the Duke "everyone look and praise us" approach. Bravo.
Screw Ole Miss for giving DJ Durkin a job. He should donate every dollar he makes for the rest of his life to the Jordan McNair Foundation. And ESPN is shameful for praising the dude like he wasn't complacent in a player's death.
Edsall took the player's names off the back of jerseys, not knowing that Maryland was the first school to put them on in college football. Willard gets here and immediately wants to get away from the awfully designed new M logo because he knows everyone loves the old Testudo M
Kevin Willard on Maryland's logo:
"I love that Terrapin. I'm going to get in trouble. I wear it all the time. ... I guess the M's important. But I love that turtle."
🙃
Guess this is the team Willard saw before the season. Key is getting into the paint. Road win over a top-ten conference foe is huge. The kind of stuff that can turn your season around.
M-A-R-Y-L-A-N-D, Maryland will win!
If the Ravens somehow got DeAndre Hopkins and extended Lamar, after getting OBJ, and then Maryland got Hunter Dickinson, all while the Orioles are the best up and coming team in baseball, and after Maryland football brought back script Terps, I....I don't know what I'd do.
I hope people show up to the Maryland game next week. This team is really talented. They were perhaps 2 mistakes away from upsetting the
#4
team on the road. They could be 8-1 or 7-2 after the next 5 games. Hell, they lost, but feels like Maryland should be ranked next week.
Hey
@KevinWillard
and
@TerrapinHoops
, any chance y'all can bust out these beautiful creations for the UCLA game? I got my tickets, would love to see these wonderful unis again in-person 👀👀👀
The Northwestern clock operator should be fired. They had a few clock issues but none bigger than this. MD inbounds to bring ball up without touching to save time. Clock incorrectly starts. So they have to reset the clock and re-inbound. Allows NW to put defender on the inbound.
Wow, Virginia Tech fans are really calling Maryland "classless" for a funny tweet showcasing an awkward moment in a blowout game? The same Virginia Tech asshats who chanted racist remarks like "green card" to Greivis Vasquez when he lit your asses up? GTFO what this shit.
I don't know if Manning is the next head coach for Maryland or not, but you can't tell me this team isn't different under Manning. And that Manning doesn't make on the fly adjustments better than Turge. Switching to zone, between 2-3 and 3-2 and that full court press was great.
The
@UofMaryland
never ceases to amaze me with their incompetence sometimes, especially
@umterps
. Fellow alumni are here with their family. Won't let them into
@secuMD
Stadium because they have food for their 3 kids. On Maryland day. For a spring game. How stupid can you get?
Hunter Dickinson, who was, in fact, recruited by Maryland, was a 74% free throw shooter entering tonight. He went 1/4 from the line. Michigan lost by 2.
I'm enjoying watching Hunter Dickinson play in the NIT. Just glad Maryland "didn't recruit" him, since he couldn't will his team to an NCAA Tournament appearance.
Maryland fans should all block a former coach's son who likes to pretend like his Dad didn't just quit on his team mid-season. He's a troll & Maryland fans engaging with him just gives credo to the narrative of fans being mean and away from the fact that he quit on his team.
I personally think it is hilarious that a Maryland quarterback now sits atop the Big Ten's all-time passing yardage list. Just picturing some Boomers in Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan shaking their fists and yelling at their TVs.
I hated when Maryland played against Essegian but would absolutely love to have him in College Park. Him on next year's team would be perfect. Having someone drill 3s the way he can would be so joyful to watch after last season's struggles
Maryland was projected to lose by 1 tonight by KenPom. They won by 14 and have jumped from 23rd to 17th in the KenPom rankings. They've won 6 of 7 and are now projected to win the rest of their games after tonight
If Maryland brings back Wiggins and Ayala, I'd have to think they're a top-10 team and potentially a favorite for the B1G this year. I also think they might be Turgeon's best team since he's been here, at least on paper?
I still can't believe Maryland lost that game today. From Saturday last week to Saturday this week, it's been the worst sports week I can remember. Saw Orioles lose 2x, Ravens lost to Steelers, MD lost to tOSU, Orioles eliminated from ALDS, MD loses to Illinois at home. Woof.
You'd think a sports anchor for a Baltimore TV station would have watched the game today, but clearly Bruce didn't. Wisconsin hit 10 3s in 20 minutes. They played 15 hrs after their last game and lost a player to injury when they already had a short bench. They didn't quit, Bruce
Going to do a quick thread on Maryland leaving the ACC. I'll call it "Ditching the ACC or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying about old rivalries and Love the B1G"
To anyone call for Kevin Willard's job, I mean, unless he leaves, I don't think he's going anywhere. They gave him a 7-year, $29 mil deal. After this year, he still has over $20 left on it. Better hope he turns it around because Maryland isn't eating $20+ mil in salary.
THERE IT IS! NA NA NA NA NA, HEY, YOU SUCK! NA NA NA NA NA, HEY, YOU SUCK, NA NA NA NA NA, HEY, YOU SUCK AND WE'RE GONNA BEAT THE HELL OUT OF YOU AND YOU AND YOU AND YOU!
With Manning now leading the men's basketball program, is Maryland the first Power 5 school to have a black President, AD, football and men's basketball head coach concurrently?
So far I've seen Maryland ranked
#6
#8
#9
#15
#16
I think we could crack the top 10, but 🤡 like Seth Davis ranking Maryland 16th (behind Duke and Illinois btw) could drag them down in the 11-13 range.
One of the more shocking things about this is that this was an Elite 8 game with a trip to the Final Four on the line. Are these really the cream of the crop basketball officials? They ended Abby Meyers' career on this ish. Just disgraceful.
Have to give props to Maryland. I've been critical of them not doing enough to get people to Xfinity. This is a great deal, great tip time for folks with kids, and great $20 food credit. Would definitely take advantage if I wasn't out of town that weekend.
I think Kevin Willard is good and will hopefully succeed at Maryland! He's young, has done a lot with very little at Seton Hall. And
@AndrewEmmer
can correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think Willard had been mentioned for other big jobs in past years and he turned them down.
@SethDavisHoops
It's almost like you don't like MD b/c you're BFF w/ Mark Turgeon, since you tweeted "Rough night for the Mark Turgeon can't coach crowd" about 50 times. It's hard to coach when you quit on your team mid-season. Is this Will Turgeon's burner account? I think it is. Sharpie.
This has been one of the most frustrating Maryland basketball seasons I can remember. Team would look great and play great D and then just completely disappear for the longest stretches. How many leads did they blow? Then lost close game after close game. Willard has work to do.
Scott shouldn't be starting. It's becoming clear he's the problem right now. I know Willard said one or two people were an issue, and maybe there are some freshmen growing pains he's talking about, but I'm pretty sure it's really just one.
"Box the f*ck out."
Can't blame Julian Reese there. You'd prefer those exchanges stay private, but he was showing some fire/competitiveness they're lacking.
This is also a good snapshot of their chemistry.
I think Wiggins ends up drafted and does well in the NBA. I certainly hope the best for him and am glad we got to see him blossom into the talented player he was at Maryland. All the best my man.
Dear
@Evans_TerpsAD

@umterps
and
@AskTeamUA
- please bring these uniforms back for Maryland basketball. Please. You will sell all the merch. Trust me.
Six games isn't a tiny sample size. It's 20 percent of a regular season.
Only the most stubborn coaches are going to play exclusively man defense moving forward against Maryland, at least until the Terrapins prove they can make some outside shots.
I was at Maryland Day today and saw not a single sign or mention this was going on while on campus. Disappointing they didn't, you know, market it to the thousands of people on campus
Whelp, I'm enjoying this CBS sports theme music during today's Maryland game because we sure as heck won't be hearing it during a Maryland game this March
