In the wake of my colleague’s departure, I can’t help but reflect on the use of threats, intimidation, & harassment to force political outcomes. There can be no tolerance for it. I do not understand why this behavior is so prevalent, & even celebrated, in Progressive spaces.

As a Black cyclist, I have the Are Bikes Gentrification™️ talk w/ other Black folks on a regular basis. With other cyclists of color, I discuss erasure on a regular basis. I also notice…slight differences wrt how Black officials are engaged with relative to other officials.

Council lost a safe streets champion in the very year safe streets advocates are mobilizing to pass a safe streets measure. Berkeley lost the CM who championed the public bank, who championed BerkDOT, & neighborhood commercial, & Southside zoning to the applause of the mob.

Over the last year or two, I have been pushing myself to explore more parts of Berkley by bike, namely North Berkeley: Hopkins, Monterey, & Solano. This has given me ample opportunity to reflect on how the road safety infra virtually evaporates upon my return down West.

Exlusionary zoning & redlining are deeply racist. Housing policy rooted in these won’t prevent displacement. Apartments were banned & single family neighborhoods gentrified. Berkeley has 8.4% Black population. A new generation must fight for Fair Housing in the 21st century.

Been challenging myself to learn new routes to other parts of the city. It is heartbreaking & painful to watch virtually all of Berkeley’s burgeoning bike infra evaporate when I get back to West Berkeley despite the number of families that bike here.

It's a mystery to me why every ounce of City resources left over after COVID response aren't being spent on feasibly accomplishing VZ by 2028. I'm not a fancy wonk with a PHD & don't bleed data when cut, but I am dogged with a laser focus on safety & infra. No more distractions.

Coming out was an odyssey with my mom as final boss. I came out to her when my fiance & I lost our aptmt in 16. I was rejected, kicked out, & we were temporarily homeless. I'm running for City Council so LGBTQ couples don't have to go through that. Happy #NationalComingOutDay

Change is hard. One of the hardest changes I ever experienced was being evicted from my apartment in Berkeley & having to live apart from my husband. Changing our land use policies is one of the most powerful steps away from our inequitable & unsustainable status quo.
