#Hawkeye alum Brittany Brown wins Olympic bronze in the women's 200-meter dash in a razor-thin finish! Based on University of Iowa record keeping, that result makes Brown the first woman in Hawkeye history to win an (individual) Olympic medal. What an awesome result for her.

And the good news keeps coming for the Hawkeyes as 4x All-American Kyle Parco (Arizona State) announces he’ll transfer to Iowa City for his final year of eligibility. Parco - 5th place at NCAA’s in March at 149lbs - had a pair of wins last season over NCAA #1 seed Ridge Lovett.

BOOM. 2/2 Spencer Lee (USA) gets the 1st period TF (12-2) over Bekzat Almaz Uulu (Kyrgyzstan). Uulu scored 1st on a counter TD, then Lee followed with three beautiful transitions from TD's to turns to end it w/ barely 2 min gone on the clock. Lee is on to the semifinals!

You can say that's now back-to-back 1pt wins for Spencer over Zao, but the distinction b/t the 2 wrestlers couldn't be any more obvious after today. Zao wanted to evade for ~6 min & steal it late while Spencer was stalking him all match long looking to score. Either way, 🇺🇸 won

I know I’m late to the party here, but Australian Rules Football is simply phenomenal. Caught the second half of an epic #AFL comeback by the Fremantle Dockers over the Saints of St. Kilda with my dad, and what a treat. The rules, the refs, the absolute chaos. Just awesome.

@marcmorehouse There are a lot of more ‘fun’ teams than Iowa. A lot of those same teams haven’t won over 73% of their games over the past seven seasons. Sometimes I’ll forget that during a game like today’s. But thinking about it right now…yeah, that’ll do just fine.

Ohio prep Jarrel Miller announced his commitment to the #Hawkeyes earlier this morning. A 2022 Fargo 16U national champion, Miller is currently ranked 18th at 190lbs by Flo and #21 overall in the Class of 2025. His brother, Tyrel (ranked #16 at 175lbs) is also a '25 prospect.

At 133lbs #14 seed Brody Teske was down 10-2 to #3 Nik Bouzakis (OSU)...then STORMED BACK for a 15-13 win. Teske got a couple of TD's, then locked up a cradle for the winning NF points, holding on to prevent a tying reversal in the final seconds. Wow. Wow. Wow.

Lee was FIRED UP after that one, you guys. After giving up 4pts on a tricky counter by UZB to nullify the initial TF, Spencer scored from a seemingly equally precarious position moments afterward. I'll need a rewatch, but that was a crazy sequence & Lee flowed right through it.

Well, how about that? #25 Bradley Hill pulls the upset over #8 Owen Trephan (NC St) 4-2, courtesy of a sweet 3rd period TD that Hill was able to double off on for the quick finish. I believe Trephan is a 2x ACC champ, so yeah, that was impressive as heck from the Iowa RS frosh.

#WhileYouWereSleeping Peter Jok helped the world's youngest country to a victory in its 1st ever Olympic appearance. Jok came off the bench for South Sudan & finished w/ 11pts/6reb (3/4 from three) in 22 minutes, incl. most of the 4th quarter when SS took control of the 90-79 W.

@blaxhippie I realize they blew whatever coverage they were trying to execute. I also realize those things happen during a game. But they also happen much more often against a team like Indiana when one player becomes such a singular focus for the defense. This clip illustrates that effect.

Great response from #12 Patrick Kennedy, he earns an 18-3 tech fall over #5 Philip Conigliaro (Harvard). PK was on a mission from the jump, & more or less broke Conigliaro by the start of the 3rd period. He stays alive in the consis. IA w/ four more bonus pt wins this session.

Have a weekend Patrick Kennedy. The Iowa junior wraps up an undefeated U23 tourney with his 7th tech. fall in as many matches - this one (10-0) to complete the best-of-three finals sweep over Julian Ramirez. PK is now a two-time U23 champ (2022) & earns a berth on Team USA.

And down in the Lonestar State 2024 Iowa signee Angelo Ferrari (Melissa HS) caps an undefeated senior season with a 27-12 tech fall in the 175-pound Texas Class 5A finals. Ferrari went pin, pin, pin, tech this weekend to secure the title.

#6 Michael Caliendo will also wrestle for 3rd after besting OKST's #7 Izzak Olejnik, 9-8. Caliendo got countered for an early score before rattling off a pair of TD's for an 8-4 lead - the latter built his RT over 1 min which was big as OKST got a late TD to 'tie' things at 8-8.

#3 Real Woods closes Friday STRONG, earning an 11-2 major decision over #26 VomBaur (Minnesota). Woods picked up quick TD's in the 1st & 3rd, catching the Gopher on his back on the latter for an additional 3 NF pts. He'll wrestle twice tomorrow & can finish as high as 3rd.

One of my most anticipated aspects of next season is Iowa fans getting their first real introduction to Nyla Valencia (featured throughout this video). ACL surgery stole her debut in 2023-24, but she's an absolute monster on the mat - and as impressive a person as you'll meet.

Some breaking news related to Iowa wrestling at the Olympics: Michigan grad Stevan Micic, the #1 seed (and reigning World champ) at 57kg - Spencer Lee's weight class - has announced he will NOT be able to compete in Paris due to a knee injury.

After giving up the open takedown it's allllll Ben Kueter in an 11-2 win over 2023 U17 World teamer Nicholas Sahakian (a LARGE 2025 Michigan commit). That was seriously impressive from BK, scoring in a variety of ways to blow that one open. He's onto the best-of-three finals.

Some late recruiting news in the Class of '24 as 4-time IA state medalist Brody Sampson becomes high school commit #11 for the Hawks. Sampson placed 8th & 5th as a FR/SO at 182lbs for Collins-Maxwell (1A), then went 2nd/3rd as a JR/SR for Ballard (2A) at 182 & 190 respectively.

#Hawkeye Kennedy Blades is semifinal bound! She bests Milaimys Marin Portillo (Cuba) 4-3, flipping the script on a 9pt loss from last month in Spain. Blades opened a 4-1 lead in the 2nd after hipping into a shot by the Cuban, then held on late for the win.

HELLO Drake Ayala. The 3rd-seeded Hawkeye earns a 19-4 TF over #14 Nico Provo (Stanford). Ayala hit three slide-by's in the 1st, then scored three more TD's between the 2nd & early-3rd to put that one to bed. (I believe Provo was briefly ranked #1 at a one point this season.)

Spencer Lee takes Round 1 of the best-of-three 57kg finals over Thomas Gilman, 6-3. Lee went ahead 5-1 on a 2nd period TD + one of his patented tilts. Then Gilman almost retook the lead on a big feet-to-back TD on the edge, but it was ruled only 2 & upheld on a challenge.

Guess who's back? Ben Kueter is - back on his 2nd U20 World team in as many tries! The 2022 World Champ at 97kg sweeps his series w/ Jimmy Mullen, taking Bout 2 at 125kg by 5-3 decision. Now the question is, will he accept the spot w/ Worlds the same week as the Cy-Hawk game?

At 116lbs Felicity Taylor makes it title #3 for the Hawks, downing teammate Brianna Gonzalez 9-2. That was a flip from their bout in the regional finals, won by roughly the same margin by B. Gonzalez. Taylor, a senior, adds at 2nd national title to her 3 other finals apps.

#10 Jared Franek wins a 4-3 decision over #7 Peyten Kellar (Ohio). Franek got to the legs plenty, but only converted once - a 1st period TD that stood up as the winning score. Not pretty, but smart. Kellar was only going to score off a wild scramble and JF never obliged.

Gabe Arnold is a U20 World team trials finalist a 79kg, besting William Henckel (a 2025 Penn State commit) via 5-2 decision. Pretty tactical throughout, then (up 3-2) Gabe countered a Henckel single leg late in the 2nd to slam the door shut with a TD of his own. Verrry slick 😤

@ScottDochterman @HawkeyeFootball @TheAthleticCFB IMO he’s been the obvious KF successor for 3-4 years now. Not a C. Klieman or M. Stoops. Woods is an elite person, an elite coach in all 3 phases, has NFL experience, and gets the unique challenges/virtues of Iowa. He’s my first call whenever KF retires.

'Ice Man' does it again. #11 Zach Glazier wins a crazy scramble late in the 3rd period to beat #16 Luke Surber by a score of 4-1. Awesome mat awareness by Glazier, who clinches ANOTHER dual for the Hawkeyes. It's just what he does, apparently. IA leads 19-9 w/ HWT on deck.
