Tahoe National Forest fire resources are currently responding to a wildfire incident on the eastside of the forest near Sierra Brooks. Conditions last reported at 30-40 acres with high rate of spread.
The same can be said for Henness Pass. Please don't try to take Henness Pass. If your GPS tells you to take it, ignore your GPS, it's not going to happen.

I-80 remains CLOSED between Applegate and the Nevada state line. You will be turned around and you're putting crews at risk who are working to clear downed trees, snow, etc.

Tahoe National Forest received 126 lightning strikes in the past 24 hours. There are currently 4 lightning caused fires on the forest:
CRYSTAL – Truckee Ranger District – In patrol status
PALEN – Sierraville Ranger District – Fire held around 3 acres through the night.

Resources now reporting 100 acres, rapid rate of spread. Ground resources are still en route due to difficult and remote terrain. Aviation resources remain on fire.

: This past week, fire smoke has been getting really intense in the foothills both north and south of the fire, in places like Grass Valley and Placerville. Now, we are getting increasingly strong SW winds. Summary:
ROYAL INCIDENT: Tahoe National Forest fire resources are currently responding to a vegetation fire in the Royal Gorge. Acreage reported 5-10 acres, moderate to rapid rate of spread. Ground resources currently in route with several aerial resources committed to the incident.

Acreage updated to 54 acres due to more accurate mapping. Law enforcement is evacuating recreation areas near the incident. Cause remains under investigation.

is at 95% containment, why are we still at 95% ? Currently 5% of the fire’s perimeter has too steep and dangerous terrain making access difficult or unsafe for boots on the ground.
Due to unprecedented and historic fire conditions throughout CA, the Forest Service has EXTENDED the temporary Forest Closure Order of all 18 National Forests in California. This Closure Order includes the Tahoe National Forest. It will be re-evaluated daily as conditions change.

Crews have completed 93 miles of dozer line, 16 miles of handline, 33 miles of road clearance, and still counting!
In under a minute from Dispatch, TNF Fire resources mobilized to the Sagehen Fire in the Sagehen area of the Truckee Ranger District. Forward progress has been stopped with hoselay on the 1/4 acre fire and handline is being constructed by TNF E371, 373, 372, BAT 71, and Patrol71

County Big Trees Grove, located in the Tahoe NF was identified as one of the values at risk, as it is home to the 6 northern most giant sequoias. Crews reached containment within 4 miles of the grove, leaving the trees unharmed.
