For weeks I refrained from attending screenings for the press of Hamas' Oct 7. atrocities. I already knew the extent of the horrors. But I didn't anticipate the denial that followed. This ultimately pushed me to attend a screening and bear witness today. What did I see? 🧵
I did not see videos of infants being shot in the head because their families requested those videos be removed from the compilation, Mattan Harel-Fisch the editor of the compilation told us.
I saw a terrorist sawing away at a soldier's neck until he was holding his head, loose, in his hands. I saw another terrorist hacking away at a man's neck, determined to cut his head off.
I saw a terrorist throw a grenade into a bomb shelter where a father and his two boys were hiding, still in their underwear in the early morning. The father was killed before his sons' eyes. As the boys cried, covered in blood, the terrorist swigged coke from their fridge.
One boy was injured in his eye. His brother asked him if he could see out of it and he said he could only see through one eye. Communication between terrorists and victims was often in English. One of the young boys cried 'I want my mother.' In Hebrew he cried, 'why am I alive?'
I saw the bodies of children and babies who had been shot in their homes, piles of charred bodies from the Nova music festival, and bodies of people who had been bound and brutally attacked and mutilated until they were mangled.
I heard translated conversations between terrorists and their commanders telling them to cut Israelis' heads off with knives, to bring bodies back to Gaza to 'let people play with them.' To bring one back and hang him in the square. I saw crowds kicking the bodies of victims.
one woman at the festival was lying dead on the floor, skirt hiked up, legs splayed, naked underneath the skirt. Her body was so unrecognizable that a friend or relative of someone who had been at the nature party struggled to identify whether or not she was their loved one.
I saw the terrorists' elation as they bragged about what they had done to the 'dog corpses' - I did see them shoot a dog but that wasn't who they were referring to.
I saw terrorists shooting many, many people, making sure each one was dead. 'He touched his ear!' one terrorist shouted, making sure any signs of life were quashed.
