Much as I love @taylorswift13 , can I just say that, from a personal point of view, she could have timed the release of her new album better. Had to drop everything & dash back from a Christmas shopping trip to review Evermore. Fans love surprise albums. Critics ... not so much.

I get sent far more interesting poetry books than I can review. So here's a thread of some of the memorable ones I've finished this year, and a poem that I think gives a flavour of each book. Looking for Christmas present ideas? Poetry. Always poetry. (1/?)

Gosh. This is the most notifications I've ever had. I've never really listened to Swift (I'm more of a poetry person) but I'm intrigued. I'll buy Evermore and give it a try. And if one of you feels like trying a bit of poetry, I have a small pamphlet:

The jacket blurbs TS Eliot wrote for Faber are always like: Despite his lack of popularity, Mr Flinch's work has a degree of merit. He is considered, by some, to be a noteworthy figure. An American critic has gone so far as to call him 'one of the 17 palatable writers of today'.

This means the LRB didn't review the TS Eliot Prize winners for 2015 or 2017, main Forward Prize winners in 2014, '15, '16 or '18, or Forward First Collection winners in 2015, '16, '17. Imagine a film magazine that ignored the Oscars and Palme d'Or. It'd be a laughing stock.

For example, between 2011-2018 the London Review of Books has published 70 articles by 33 different poetry critics. All 33 were white. Those 70 articles reviewed 86 different books. All 86 were by white poets.
