For any mutuals I'm still missing, and since I lost my pinned tweet:
Hi, I'm James! I've been writing for
@RPGSite
for almost 7 years now, and I've contributed to other outlets as freelance too. Last year I covered SGF, Anime Expo, TGS and a bunch of preview events!
In From the Cold was the rawest thing XIV ever did and y'all couldn't deal with a bit of spice in your MSQ. Every one of you that complained about it are my enemy.
I spoke to Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi about why he reunited with his old company Square Enix after more than two decades, his obsession with Final Fantasy XIV, becoming a grandfather, and what he's up to next. Early holiday newsletter:
I'd genuinely be shocked if the Direct this month is as strong as this Xbox showing, and I never would've expected that going in. Full kudos to the hardworking teams that nailed it.
Watching the VOD for KZ's KH1 marathon stream and immediately disassociating when he gets to the boss of the Tarzan world, utters the words "classic start to this fight where Donald immediately gets shot" and then not a minute later the news broke.
This wasn't added in the localization, either. This was something that even the Japanese version had, and I even made a thread about it 3 years ago.
Specifics later, but this was 100% a deliberate choice by Falcom - along with the rest of the story/themes in Calvard.
Seeing homophobes refusing to play Daybreak because its " gone woke", and Van supports LGBT characters in game is great
Good leave, we don't want you here
I've been hesitant to say anything about this situation, but this is a good point. The state of social media is far more toxic now than it was when the Switch first launched. Imagine how folks would've reacted to Metroid: Samus Returns being MercurySteam in 2024, before Dread.
More than just a simple re-upload of the existing Epic Games Store releases, Kingdom Hearts on Steam helps make the entire series accessible on a handheld for the first time - and it may just be our new favorite way to play the games.
I literally had devs tell me *this week* that they've found it hard to justify physical release of Xbox games because the entire userbase has not been conditioned to buy games, much less discs.
@SwweetPosting
Gamepass has honestly been such a disaster for them. They have a whole console literally designed to be a gamepass box and it didn't even raise subscriptions by much considering it's the most sold Series system.
I can't stress enough, "Game Pass Standard", which implies what will be the status quo for the service going forward, doesn't include day-1 games and there's no pledge that every game will eventually make it to the service. Game Pass is dead and they're trying to ease folks in.
Falcom: "We want the rest of the Trails series on Switch"
Falcom: "we're remaking/remastering a trilogy of games
Falcom: "we consider Trails in the Sky the ideal entry point"
Falcom (now): "we're announcing a remaster/remake this year"
Trails fandom: "it's definitely not Sky tho"
Confirmed; anyone who already owned Kuro 2 in Japanese and has their PlayStation set to English has had the logo replaced with what is presumably NISA's logo. Welp!
I don't think even casual Trails fans understand just how many of the folks from the Trails fandom from back in the Sky/early Cold Steel days had their hands on the Daybreak localization. NISA really pulled from the fandom oldguard a bunch here.
I got hate for it on my other account for saying it; but by and large, the Xbox userbase does not buy games. You, Xbox fan, might do so - but Game Pass incentivizes folks to wait, or offers enough games that for the average Xbox user they're far less likely to buy games at launch
Seeing some mutuals be like "oh it must've been a localization guy that pitched this" are sorely unfamiliar with CyberConnect2's history. They literally ran a zine dedicated to furries and commissioned known furry artists for the chapter endcards in Fuga. This comes from the top.
Idk if they got an actual restraining order, but they might've. Naturally this also coincided with them spiraling bigtime.
@KZXcellent
this is what I was gonna DM you about.
People are getting mad at this, but I've heard from multiple PR folks that they cannot stand NG. This is far from an isated incident, and that's what happens when your outlet is insufferable and actively antagonizes parts of the industry on a regular basis.
I get why, but it's genuinely a bit deflating to see so many folks immediately talking down today's announcement being a new Famicom Detective Club, as if it's a lesser release than some horror game.
It's definitely not the most important part of this whole thing, but yeah I 100% cosign that Mystic deliberately writing in slightly broken English in order to appear Japanese is actually pretty disgusting when you think about it for a second.
You can see the exact moment Dr Disrespect appears to find out that Midnight Society is dropping him, or some other seemingly bad news related to his Twitch ban allegations.
He had just defeated Bayle The Dread and went to look at his phone after fast travelling to Scadu Atlus
"I didn't do it, but as soon as the actual person I groomed spoke up suddenly I'm gonna try and talk with them (probably to shut them up)"
Good lord, dude.
Cultural reset in motion. BG3, a turn-based RPG, won GOTY last year and the most hype announcement from the Xbox showcase is lovingly made by weebs. You love to see it!
Man this is just sad now. I'm so sorry for the folks who worked so hard on the subs and dub, they clearly weren't given proper respect to do it justice.
Just to show I'm not crazy, here's a few clips from the dub. If you have the Japanese version to pull up, you'll see that these are 99.9% identical. The voice actors are STRUGGLING to match those lip flaps because of how fast they have to go. I feel so bad for them.
#Nokotan
There's a certain genre of game that just doesn't do well in reviews, generally, and yet they're beloved by the folks that end up playing them. FuRyu has some releases that are genuinely great but if you only looked at the aggregate you'd never give them a chance.
@Stealth40k
this game is made by FuRyu who are one of the worst devs in all of Japan. Their games are all low quality trash that preys on dumb weebs who will buy anything with an anime girl on it. the twewy collab is just another stunt. the game will suck just like all of theirs.
Lmao they're calling the new Fantasian Difficulty "Normal Mode". If you want to play Fantasian as it was originally intended, make sure to pick Hard Mode at launch. Credit to
@Aeana
for finding this.
For anyone who is going to Anime Expo in a few weeks; please wear a mask. Summer Game Fest just finished up, which was a (mostly) outdoors conference with far fewer people, and basically everyone seems to have caught COVID. There's a 0% chance that AX isn't a superspreader event.
It sucks that Dragon Quest's art won't be the same going forward, but y'know what? Naoki Ikushima is an incredible artist, and they're doing their best with the Erdrick Trilogy. I'd love if they were the new artist going forward.
Rough day for Falcom announcements, with both the Web CM2 and Daybreak II's localized logo being leaked. Anime Expo was and is set to be a major milestone for the company worldwide and I hope this doesn't damper things too much.
If you're in Dawntrail and haven't just story-skipped, you've been playing XIV for probably something like 500+ hours as it is, minimum, unless you absolutely rushed everything. If you're still having trouble with basic mechanics in fights 500 hours in that's a you problem.
Admittedly, I'm of the opinion that the prevailing opinion I've seen recently - that the Sky trilogy is boring and a slog to get through - is insane. The 3rd is still in my Top 3 of the series, and FC is what got me to fall in love with the franchise. They need ports/remakes.
@SwweetPosting
Every single time I told people to play Sky (and I bought them a bunch over the years as gifts), they fell in love head over heels for the series.
I can’t even begin to understand why people wouldn’t want them on modern platforms.
I love this tweet's enthusiasm, but it's funny how folks act like NieR is a niche game when Automata has outsold FFVII Remake, FFXVI, and every Persona game.
>Expedition 33 staff are big fans of Final Fantasy, Persona, and Kingdom Hearts
“Makes sense those are really mainstream and pop-”
>And Golden Sun, Nier, Tales, and Suikoden
@TwoMuchRice
Any translation is going to be made with the specific context of the media in question, and up to interpretation by the translator with the best knowledge they have. MTL, even edited, completely removes that context and will always at its core be a worse translation.
It's insane we had an example of a cop actually doing their job for once and the result has been them being dragged because they gave a star a DUI they rightfully deserved.
Rookie Sag Harbor cop who arrested Justin Timberlake already well-known by locals for strict enforcement of traffic laws after just three months on the force
Mikami left after cultivating someone else to head the studio in Johanas. The fact they couldn't see or understand that is insane, not that this would ever be a good reason to shutter a studio on its own. I feel terrible for Mikami; how must he feel?
Implying this is on Mikami and framing his leave as abandonment is quite literally the pinnacle of corporate behavior, literally the type of tactics you'd see with anti-union maneuvers and shit
No doubt that Harris will do some awful things, but if you spent the last 9 months (rightfully) decrying Biden just to immediately shift into attacking Harris you very clearly do not actually care about mitigating damage or saving lives. Sorry.
Kondo has really been *glowing* this AX, it's incredibly noticeable by everyone I know who had already met him. No wonder when there's so many Falcom games at the show! I wonder how next year will go, if it will be more of the same...
Nvidia's market cap has crossed over the $3 trillion mark for the first time, surpassing Apple and Microsoft as the most valuable company in the U.S. stock market.
I'd genuinely be shocked if the Direct this month is as strong as this Xbox showing, and I never would've expected that going in. Full kudos to the hardworking teams that nailed it.
Well, it seems like the day has finally broken.
I'm pleased to announce I was one of the localization editors for NIS America's "Trails through Daybreak", anyone who knows me personally can probably tell I freaked out.
I hope everyone enjoys the start of a new Trails saga!

Insane to see how hard they're pushing this, honestly. Between having Nomura sign a Deck OLED and this you'd almost think these ports are exclusive to Deck.
man Pyoro might be in some real danger, like we know NOA is willing to go to the fringes of the law over like, a person sharing SNES roms, they might actually have the pinkertons on them
Fuck it. Can folks RT so I can get some followers back? Either I get it back or not, but I need something usable for the weekend at least.
