This week my students are learning about the Roman army in Egypt and we'll look at a letter sent by Satornilos, a soldier stationed in Nubia, to his mother back in the Egyptian village of Karanis. Ready with a bribe, he hoped to be sent to Alexandria to see his mother on the way.
