Treat people equally. Be a smart competitor. Be nice to everyone in your own way. Encourage people to improve, come back, and keep trying. Cause they’re likely at a tournament for that exact reason. I remember back on my 16th birthday, it was my first time getting into elite

Most people in the smash scene are at least vaguely aware of the hierarchy. Most aren’t content with their spot in it, and they use it as motivation to improve. There’s an abject level of non-inclusivity of people worse than you. You’re less likely to ask to play friendlies

This, consequently, leads to a lot less interaction with these people, if any at all. Unless it’s forced upon by them. In which case, if they’re corny (possibly due to lack of experience interacting with other players, or players with experience), they get clowned on.

What it always boils down to for people leaving, along with what I said before, is motivation. Motivation to go to tournaments, play the game, find new friends in the scene, improve, travel, etc. What causes the drop in motivation, is the thesis of this thread

It varies vastly. New jobs, new circumstances, new schedules, but it goes the other way too. New players, interested and aware of tournaments, should theoretically also be changing circumstances. So the number shouldn’t have dipped this much.
