Mogadishu’s equivalent to the iconic Parisian Cafè de Flore - Cafè Nazionale Bar used to be THE place to gather if you wanted to be seen. It is one of the biggest symbols of Mogadishu’s Cafè culture. I hope one day it is revived back to its former glory. FYI - Who owns this?

Mogadishu was synonymous with Cafe culture, fine outdoor cafes where ladies & gents would fashionably read their newspapers on tree lined boulevards. Evening cinemas, music & theatre shows would bring together young & old. W/end picnics to Afgooye. Road trips to Kismayo bilan.

Gran passed away. Spent the day going around Shangani & started creating an awesome scrapbook as tribute. Visited her now broken old house where she moved to in the late 1940s, opposite the old U.S embassy. Had tribute tea & chatter with her dear friends & folks who knew her 💕

This week I visited these apartment complexes built in Mogadishu, 1974. They were mixed use & housed government workers & low income families. It’s an integrated site with a school including what used to be well manicured gardens. Its a symbol of Somali architecture & resilience.
