Today we learned that 762 people died by suicide in 2022. This is a increase of nine on 2021 (+1.2%). We mourn the loss of every person, and think of their families today - as we do everyday. Our work to prevent suicide will continue, because no death should ever be inevitable.

Data from @NatRecordsScot / @P_H_S_Official today reveals that 805 people died by probable suicide in 2020. This is 3% down YOY, but is higher than the previous five year average (739). We mourn with everyone who lost someone they loved. Suicide should never be inevitable.

Our colleagues at @P_H_S_Official have analysed the data on deaths by probable suicide in 2020, compared to 2015-2019. This was to determine whether the characteristics of individuals who died by suicide during the COVID-19 pandemic differ those before.
