The Biodiversity Map of Andhra Pradesh is a representation of the rich biological and cultural heritage of the state. The design of the map and all its elements borrows its inspiration from Srikalahasti style of Kalamkari.

Neither the wild know borders, nor do they hold on to coordinates. This wildlife map is a song sung in the beautiful language of the folk art of Pattachitra, as phrases of the vivid diversity of life forms rhyme with tribal sagas and age-old verses, on the sacred land of Odisha.
Like a drop of water speeding towards its grander self, the kingfishers dive into water to catch their prey, and to catch splendid colours of the waters on their feathers!

The tiger is a farmer, tilling an earthen antelope through his teeth. He would harvest from her, the greens she ate from plants & trees, that were soaked in rich soil; soil that hold ancestral values. He would harvest from her, life, death & all tiny pieces of the eternal sun.

FolkIndica- my unique art style, was born at their wild intersection.

Maybe we have been wrongly spelling 'conservation' for all this while, maybe it was meant to be just 'conversations'- honest, profound and unifying, with all beings alike.

The Mahanadi river in Odisha is home to the mystical Gharial, the crocodilian species i.e. unique to the Indian subcontinent.🐊🌊

Presenting the Biodiversity Map of 'The Magical Melghats' launched by Maharashtra Forest Department to mark 50 years of Melghat Tiger Reserve- one of the first tiger reserves of the country.
A meeting place of majestic cliffs, forts, valleys, mystic rocks, rivers & fables.
With the head of a Bar-headed goose & the tail of a Mahseer fish, we imagine the entire Mahanadi river as one magnificent ship (Boita) that carries the history, biodiversity & culture of a great civilisation along its currents from hills of Chattisgarh to the Kalinga Sagar.

A hand-painted tribute to a tigress called Machhli - a roaring fish who swam through all thick & thin to raise generations of indomitable tigers! What made her an undying legend is that she rose above in a battle between her and a mugger crocodile much larger than herself.

It is a visual language unique to the land, that has led several beautiful narrations including those of local birds and animals to walls of temples, homes and everyday lives of its people for ages.
Like the lively green that is born on the colour tray when the priml yellow and blue are mixed, the sacred confluence of warmth and water nurtures the vibrant, verdant life.

The purple frog was first discovered in Kerala by S.D. Biju and Franky Bossuyt. It is endemic to Western Ghats & was not noticed until recently as it remains underground most of the year except for a few days during the monsoon when it comes out to mate.
