Some reflection at the beginning of the year: I love my job, mentoring my team members, helping everyone in my surrounding. But I have realized, last year in particular, how mentally demanding it can be 🧵(1/7)

My biggest struggle as a 1st gen PhD: That some people from a more privileged background didnt take me serious (and still they dont) and act like I am a second class scientist.
Most people don't know how much being a first gen PhD can impact your PhD journey.
If you are a first gen PhD.
What has been a your biggest struggle as a first gen PhD?
Our manuscript has now 6 main figures, 18 supplemental figures and the rebuttal letter has 10 figures. Is this now the new standard of publishing your work?

I see many W1 junior professorships these days requiring that the candidate must have earned PhD within the last 4 years. It makes it so much harder for ECRs to find suitable positions in academia. It further promotes that people drop out of science.
