Remember headteachers- you do not need everyone in on day 1. Keep your staff safe and run a skeleton staffing team. Or sort them out first thing and then send the rest home- quickly. Rotas should give them the maximum time at home! @simonkidwell @chrisdysonHT @DWearing1972

Very rarely do I comment on politics. But this has to be biggest turn around. For years he’s said funding is at its highest levels- now he says we have to sort it out? Which is it and what’s changed the record? It only leads to frustrated headteachers and leaders.

Right plan A it is then. Whole classes. Now we need the additional measures (or not) guidance to ensure our plans are fit for purpose moving forward. Bubbles of around 30. Guidance in the next two weeks means we can inform parents before the summer.

As confirmed by the Prime Minister this evening, we are asking education and childcare settings to prepare to open for more children from 1 June. We will publish further guidance setting out more information for early years, schools and colleges tomorrow.

Where are all these messages coming from asking teachers to get back to work or asking what they are doing on full pay at home? Colleagues we need to cut these comments down and quickly- teachers are keeping critical workers children safe and teaching them at school.

So when social distancing is not possible- ie a classroom- a face covering can help reduce the spread of the virus. Guidance from DfE- teachers should not wear them when they are in their classrooms. We need to think carefully about this.
