I was out with government workers last night. Without exception they were intelligent, friendly, funny and kind. Hardworking and committed. And sad and anxious about the future. Anyone who is gloating about sacking lots of these people is horrible. They are people. With whānau.

Just reading an update about Covid deaths in the thousands every day around the world. The only way to stop it is what New Zealand did and is doing. We should all be immensely grateful to our political and medical leadership. I’m so happy every day my loved ones and I are safe.

Now I’ve recovered I have to call out Auckland Airport. Last night there was no sign of a contingency plan, no coordination of food, water & blankets. Poor or no communication. No sign kids, the elderly & disabled were being prioritised. Disgraceful. I felt guilty escaping.

I highly recommend this book, Not Now, Not Ever. Essays edited by Julia Gillard. Women discuss misogyny from different perspectives, 10 years on from her ground breaking speech. Much has changed, but also little. Look at the misogyny directed at our PM just for doing her job.

In the stupidest thing I have done in days, I bought an indoor plant (with a bunch of others) for $11. I missed the fact it was a hoya. I also missed a zero. Muzza was paying as I walked out. I didn’t realise my error until we got it home. I need a cup of tea & a lie down.

Our health system was fantastic today. I had severe back and chest pain and sky high blood pressure and ended up in an ambulance to Wellington ED. Lots of hours, pain relief, tests and scans later I am all clear. Great care all day. Getting older sucks.
