My heart is full! After the stress of the last 18 months and worries about the future, our Young Church restarted this week - and we had 24 children in church today. We're still masked and distancing, but this feels like an important step.

This might look like a pretty empty church, but to me it's an oasis of prayer, and space to think. Today, there were 19 of us at our Wednesday Eucharist, despite the rain. Midweek services have a reflective feel - they are shorter but more spacious than Sunday morning.

One of the best things about parish ministry is seeing people grow up. Lois was the first baby I baptised at St Luke's on Easter Sunday in 2016. This Sunday, she was admitted to Holy Communion! We thank God for her, and pray for her 🙏

After yesterday's grumpy vicar post about the crash, here's a happier post. Looking at the mess yesterday, it's a miracle no one was seriously hurt. So many people came to help clear the site of debris, including toppling a wobbly wall - we did it all in just over an hour!

A nice surprise - at 7.25 we relocated the Eucharist for Holy Cross Day from the lady chapel to the choir stalls! With all the ups and downs of the pandemic recovery, & a lot of anxiety in the church about its place in society, the growth in midweek worship is a fount of hope.

As part of my stay in South Burgundy, today I made pilgrimage to Paray-le-Monial. It's one of the best examples of Cluniac architecture, and the basilica gives you a sense of what Cluny would have looked like - and it's a beautiful example of 11th and 12th century Romanesque.

One of the joys of 2022 in Woodside has been the baptisms! 16 children so far this year has been the largest number in 11 years of ordained ministry. For All Saints today we welcomed many of them back to give them Ben Myers' beautiful children's book on the Apostles' Creed.

I love the gloaming light in church that you get when the clocks change. I love how serious the building feels, when the Holy images are veiled for Passiontide. You feel how full the building is with God, even when there's just a few of us, walking the Stations of the Cross.
