A diverse, inclusive community of people following the Way of Jesus in the Anglican tradition. Our priest is
@RevDaniel
. Welcome - onsite or online (link below)
A phrase that often appears in our tweets, inviting people to worship with us is: “All Welcome. Always Welcome.”
And that is true. All people are welcome. What will never be welcome however is the homophobic abuse that many people wish to pour on our priest
@RevDaniel
Despite our teasing yesterday,
@RevDaniel
is quite ill. Still at home, he has a high fever and what appears to be influenza. As he has been through pneumonia several times, please pray with us that further respiratory issues don’t arise. May he recover fully and quickly. 🙏🏾🙏🏼🙏🏿
This week’s Zoom Bible Study (Nov 8) is cancelled due to Fr. Daniel being ill, with a man-cold.
Please pray….for his husband James.
And join us again next Tuesday, Nov 15th at 7pm.
Chester, we’ve been over this. There are no Easter bunnies in the resurrection story.
No, not in any of the four Gospel accounts.
No, not even in the original Greek.
We know he is gay. We know and love his husband James. We have been blessed by their presence and ministry to us and to the wider community for almost a decade.
We pray we shall continue to be for years to come.
You are welcome.
So are they. Your bigotry is not welcome.
It is ironic that the Sunday when
@RevDaniel
preaches an excellent sermon on Jesus teaching “Love your enemies”, so many should flood our social media with abusive messages about him.
We choose a different way and are grateful for a priest who walks in that way.
We received an email this week thanking us for our online services but with a sharp critique from a 10 year old boy that
@RevDaniel
’s dog Chester makes no appearances in our liturgy.
Fr. Daniel has sent the boy a video response from Chester
At a church this morning. At least 70% of attendees masked. Our idiot governments are not yet done terrifying their (elderly) citizens. Appalling.
@fordnation
@JustinTrudeau
Chester visited the church today, chairing two meetings in
@RevDaniel
’s office.
We haven’t yet explained that “chairing” a meeting doesn’t mean you get to sit in a chair while eating your treats.
We now refer to the end of the work-week as “Floofy Fridays”.
We join
@RevDaniel
in giving sincere thanks to all who posted such supportive messages in appreciation of our community and his ministry in particular.
A day that began with a few woes became instead a day of many blessings. Thank you all.
And other duties as assigned… In the absence of the parishioner who has been doing our church flowers, our priest
@RevDaniel
has stepped into the breach. He’s picked up a few tips over the years from the Altar Guild!
So far we’ve had several phone calls and emails to our church denouncing us as “groomers” because of our stance on the Million March.
We pointed out that children ARE statistically more likely to be abused in church by a pastor than at a pride event or by a trans person.
We join our Jewish neighbours in praying for Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker and congregants of Beth Israel in Colleyville, TX, held hostage. We pray for an end to anti-semitism; that this does not end in loss of life and does not fuel the flames of Islamophobia. Lord have mercy.
On this day we pray for those who have lost their lives, who mourn loved ones, and who still live in fear because of transphobia - often fuelled by religious bigotry and hatred.
We stand against transphobia and for full equality and inclusion of trans people.
Behold, I bring you glad tidings of great joy!
Well, Chester isn’t bringing it. But we are, this Sunday, with our “Lessons and Carols” service. Nine scripture passages about the coming Messiah interspersed with carols, choir anthems and children assembling a manger scene.
All attending on-site worship tomorrow are encouraged to wear masks.
A mask mandate for all services and parish events will be announced tomorrow, to take effect Monday, Nov. 14th until further notice.
We have received word that Chester has in fact agreed to shift and Fr. Daniel will be leading Bible Study from a more professionally appropriate place.
“And they returned home by another road”…to avoid the giant dog.
Wherever you have come from, you’re welcome to journey with us following the light of the God who dwells among us.
Epiphany - Sunday Jan 8
On-site 8am and 10am
Online 10am EST
Happy Anniversary to our priest and his husband.
We're grateful to James for all the support he has given to St. John's and to Fr. Daniel in his ministry over the years. God bless you both. 💜
Though he apologized, this pastor’s horrific comments blaming victims of rape are rooted in deeply patriarchal and misogynistic teachings which conflate sexuality and violence and portray women as responsible for inciting uncontrollable lust in men 1/4
First our bishop praised his ministry. Then Wonder Woman
@RealLyndaCarter
praised his twirl.
It’s been the best week for Fr. Daniel and it’s only Monday.
Someone (Fr. Daniel) - not mentioning any names (Fr. Daniel) - forgot to turn off the livestream after the service and left it running until after coffee hour.
Please note today’s worship service is not over 2 hrs long. Our priest isn’t *that* long winded. 😳😁
We were delighted to announce this morning that our lead soprano and tenor Laurel and Tony, are expecting identical twins in early August.
God bless them and their growing family! 💜💜
All children are safe here.
And so are adults.
And so is our gay priest.
And our LGBTQ members.
And anyone regardless of their sexuality or gender.
We are not ashamed of this. We do not apologize for this. We are proud of this.
The first Blessing of the Pets we’ve had in a few years when it wasn’t raining! How wonderful to celebrate outside in the beautiful grounds surrounding our church.
We began our celebration of St. John’s Day with what John himself called us to: repentance.
We prayed for repentance for the ways in which we have excluded, abused and diminished the lives of the LGBTQ community along with other persecuted communities.
Jesus was also a servant of God.
And he was God, serving.
When we forget that Jesus was God Incarnate and the kind of God who is revealed in the service of Jesus, it becomes easy to make Jesus into a symbol of an entirely different kind of god.
Chester the Chancel Guild Dog has everything ready for Pentecost! Please join us Sunday and celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit, moving in and among us
@StJohnsDixie
Our priest
@RevDaniel
will be on holiday for the next week, (including next Sunday) taking some well deserved rest after a busy but wonderful Holy Week. Thank you Father Daniel for all that you do for us and for so many.
💜
Is the
@anglicandioTO
accepting nominations for Bishop yet? As a budgetary consideration, Chester is willing to serve for dog treats only.
(Thanks to
@EllerySamwise
for the photo)
“And other duties as assigned…”
Our wonderful Church Administrator Lori not only responds to your calls and emails, she also fixes broken candle flame guards!
Where’s
@RevDaniel
? He’s taking the photo. We don’t trust him with tools. Not since the lightbulb incident of 2016
This is absolutely not what Jesus taught.
This is absolutely contrary to the Gospel.
"For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the *world* might be saved (Greek - "sozo" = healed; made whole ) through him".
While headlines from the Anglican Communion’s
#LambethConference
may give the impression Anglicanism isn’t welcoming or affirming, we want you to know that LGBTQ people, their spouses, partners, families and allies are always FULLY welcome in our parish.
Good news! Our Internet connection at the church has been repaired and we will be able to live stream our service for tomorrow October 9 at 10 AM. We will be celebrating Harvest Thanksgiving. We have so much to be thankful for -including you, our online community
You're welcome to join us for worship on-site at 8am and 10am, or online (via our livestream) at 10am EDT.
This will be
@RevDaniel
's last Sunday with us until Sept. We ask God to bless his time away, making it a time of healing and restoration
The woman left her water jar and went back to the city. She said to the people “Come and see a man who told me everything I have ever done!”
Jesus invites us to rest. To drink. To be open and honest. He welcomes us with compassion to heal us, not judgement to condemn us.
O Come Let Us Adore Him.
Chester spends a bit of time at the manger with the Magi before tomorrow’s celebration of Epiphany.
Join us as we worship the newborn Christ with them (Chester will have gone home by another road by then).
8am ET (onsite)
10am ET (onsite / online)
As Fr. Daniel is beginning a leave of absence from
@StJohnsDixie
we must bring our Zoom Bible Study to a close. We plan to restart it in September with his return. We thank everyone for their participation and for wonderful community created. God be with you til we meet again.
Welcome to our newest parishioner - little Skylar- whose mother moved to Canada recently from Nigeria. We’re helping to get mother and baby settled here in Mississauga.
This Sunday at 2pm - the one time a year we don’t mind the church going to the dogs, or those in attendance being a bit catty.
Blessing of the Animals
@StJohnsDixie
Oct 2nd.
All welcome.
Always welcome.
We’re thinking of starting a new church service
@StJohnsDixie
that is shorter, less formal, totally on Zoom and geared towards building community among those who are online.
Given that people live in different time zones, we’ll be looking at various time options.
Because certain members of the community have learned that “All Welcome” has not always meant “all” or “welcome to be fully yourself” we
@StJohnsDixie
want to be clear:
A wonderful morning with Bishop Kevin visiting our parish. The children loved meeting “Fishop Kevin” and made a lovely (giant) card for him. The Bishop praised the ministry of Fr. Daniel and our very hardworking Churchwardens. It was a great Sunday.
Our Twitter feed will be different with Fr. Daniel on leave, but we won't be quiet about our life and community. We are so glad and grateful for each one of you. 9 years building on line community is worth celebrating!
#MyTwitterAnniversary
Things go better when we prepare!
You’re most welcome to join us for the first Sunday of Advent, Sun. Dec 3
Onsite- 8am and 10am
Livestream - 10am
We promise, there’s room.
Our church dog
#DailyChester
would like to remind everyone on behalf of
@RevDaniel
that our annual Vestry meeting is this Sunday, after the 10am service, following a potluck lunch. Those who wish to join the meeting online please use Zoom link sent with the vestry report.
As Christians we follow Jesus who, not only welcomed women and valued them as equals, but who taught that “if the eye offends, pluck it out.”
In other words, if you’re responding inappropriately to someone, sexually or otherwise -controlling it is your job, not theirs. 4/4
The sermon for today (Feb 11th) will be re-recorded and posted to YouTube. We realize the lapel mic wasn’t working well and much of Fr. Daniel’s sermon was lost in the livestream.
He is going to preach it again so we can stream it and put it up later today on YouTube.
It is with sadness but conviction that it’s the right thing to do that we are cancelling all in-person services today and tomorrow.
Exponentially increasing numbers of Covid cases in our area have made us re-think the risks. We do not want people becoming sick via our worship
We pray for the peace of Bekett Noble who took their life following transphobic treatment at their university. We pray for Bekett's loved ones and the students and faculty of
@RedeemerUniv
mourning them... 1/4
Almighty God, bless our Sovereign Lady, Queen Elizabeth and all in authority under her; that they may order all things in wisdom, equity, righteousness and peace,to the glory of your name and the good of your Church and people; through Jesus Christ our Lord
#PlatinumJubilee
Wonderful to have these three gentlemen join our Servers Guild. Uche (centre) is from Nigeria and joined our church last summer. Abdin (left) and Rackan (right) are from Jordan and were baptized by Fr. Daniel in January.
"1 Million March 4 Children" will be protesting on Wednesday. This is a group claiming to support "parental rights"; however, these are anti-2SLGBTQIA+ rallies.
We welcome and affirm people whatever their sexual or gender identity and we reject this March and it’s message.
Early on the first day of the week, just as the day was dawning….
Celebrate the Resurrection and Christ’s conquering of death with us!
10am EDT - on-site or online
Livestream :
The children welcomed
@RevDaniel
this morning as he joined us for Church School. We practiced a new song for our next All Ages service (Feb 26) and spoke about the church year and the upcoming season of Lent!
There may be no greater compliment in a congregation than when children are sad to leave but want to stay at coffee hour, playing with one another, chatting with parishioners and feeling like “we belong here”.
Thanks for helping create that community
@JaniceKretchman
A friendly and floofy reminder from Chester that there are still three Sundays of Advent left! Prepare the way of the Lord with us! On-site 8am and 10am. Online -10am EDT. Livestream and Order of Service available at .
Practicing for our All Ages service - our one not-sick child is bravely going to go solo. God bless her. And blessed be all God’s children….including you!
You are welcome to join us at 10am for our All Saints service - livestream on our website.
Whether you are a member of the LGBTQ+ community, out or not, partnered, married or single, a committed Christian or just seeking, or someone who has been deeply hurt by Christians because of who you are and who you love - you are safe and celebrated among us. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🙏
As a church, we utterly reject a purity culture which makes sexuality - particularly women’s sexuality - something dirty and something for others to exercise control over.
We condemn the use of any religion, including ours, as a tool to oppress women and girls. 3/4
Rape is an act of violence, it is not about sexual attraction.
Nothing any one wears or does justifies sexually assaulting them.
Women have the same right to go where they wish and dress as they wish, as men do. 2/4
Looking for a safe, welcoming church? Uncomfortable attending in person? Curious about Anglican worship? Snowed in? Whatever the reason for seeking online worship, you’re very welcome to join us
@StJohnsDixie
- Livestream Sun 10am EST
Recording available after on YouTube.
When two of your online parishioners
@Deasmom
from Calgary, AB and
@innerworkings85
from Curaçao- who met over our Zoom Coffee hour and Zoom Bible Study, meet in person, the impact of your Online Church really hits home 💜💜
Our children held their own vestry meeting while the adults talked boring numbers and reported back some great ideas for the coming year.
One is to swap out our “All Ages Service” for an “All Ages Sunday School” in which the congregation is invited to take part SS. Love it ❤️
What a lovely gift for
@RevDaniel
to find at his desk SUNDAY morning from one of our online community.
Whether you’re in local or in Yorkshire or wherever you may be, our doors are open and we’d love to have you worship with us for worship.
10am EDT -link in bio
Angels and babies and pets!
Full day tomorrow
@StJohnsDixie
as we keep the Feast of St. Michael and All Angels with the baptism of twin girls (10am - live-streamed) followed in the afternoon by our St. Francis Day Pet Blessing at 2pm.
Our Prayer Group gathers this morning to pray for the needs of the church and the world. We remember Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth this morning, praying for her and her family. If you'd like us to pray for you as well, please send us a DM.
Thankful for our congregation as we celebrate Harvest Thanksgiving. Our Church School presented a basket of produce they have grown we ended the service with an impromptu song of Thanksgiving from Kelechi who came here last March as a refugee and is now part of our community.
Jesus said, "Pray always, and do not lose heart".
Sometimes though, our hearts are heavy and we do not know what or how to pray. That is why Jesus called his disciples to follow him together, as a community -so that when our own faith is tested, we can be upheld by one another.
Love God.
Love your neighbour as yourself.
Love like Jesus.
Fr. Daniel returns today as preacher and celebrant for our service of Holy Eucharist. Join us onsite or online 10am EST
A major winter storm is forecast for our area Thurs-Sat involving rain, flash freezing as a cold front moves in and snow.
We know this may impact travel and peoples ability to attend services.
Please know we do not want anyone putting themselves or others at risk this weekend
Blessings and a warm welcome to Baby Jordan and his family, who was baptized last Sunday. His big brother responded to the presence of the Holy Spirit in the best possible way - with utter joy.
