The three Peregrine juveniles have fledged their nest successfully! They are no longer using the nest so our livecam has now been turned off for this year. We hope you’ve enjoyed this wonderful window on nature over the past few months and we thank all of our partners ❤️
The Abbot's door is one of the oldest in the Cathedral, dating from the reign of Richard II (1377-99), featuring his coat of arms. Originally, monks used this door to enter the Abbey from the cloister on their way to the Quire.

The Hot Cross Bun originated in St Albans?📍
~
In 1361, Thomas Rocliffe, a monk from St Albans Monastery, made spiced buns, marked with a cross. He gave them away on Good Friday. They were so popular that his act was repeated every Good Friday across the country.

Come on St Albans!🙋♂️
Our Organ was built in 1962 by Harrison & Harrison of Durham to a design by Peter Hurford (then Master of the Music) & Ralph Downes. It contains over 4,500 pipes, spread across keyboards (manuals) and pedals.

The Story of St Alban – Part One🌹

Seventeen hundred years ago, in a town called Verulamium, lived a man named Alban. Unknown to the Romans, Alban was hiding a Christian priest in his house...

Every day this week we’ll be telling the story of St Alban, so stay tuned ⛪
One of the reasons why we love our new Welcome Centre so much is that beautiful parts of the Cathedral's fabric can now be appreciated by everyone!

Happy St George's Day
~
This 14th century statue of St George is one of the few remaining statues wearing authentic armour worn in battle at the time, such as its bascinet and wasp-waisted detail. It was missing for many years until it was found in a heap of rubble.

An exciting discovery in 1872 👀...
~
In 1872, fragments of the demolished shrines of Alban and Amphibalus were discovered when partition walls were taken down. They were painstakingly reassembled here in the south transept.
