Man listen.....in Newton Co, GA I personally waited 8hrs yesterday. It was a clear mission, so much so that people helped each other with snacks, water, etc so they didn't go home. It was beautiful, something I didn't see in 2016.
After hearing Shedeur last night & seeing Shilo over the time he's been there, it's clear Jackson made a mark on their lives. Shedeur's humility & truth in that presser speaking about Jackson/JSU & his experiences growing up contrasting that was insightful.
I'm glad JSU Twitter is dispelling all the false narratives and myths surrounding their athletic department and institution. It was an interdependent relationship with them and their former head coach. They can't match that media machine, but they can set the record straight!
Deion Sanders introduces his son Shedeur in his opening statement:
โThatโs your quarterback.โ
โHeโs gonna have to earn it though. The safety (Shilo) made me mad so I didnโt bring him.โ

I'd never thought I'd see the day where the popularity of a Black man can make certain Black people turn against Black institutions. This weekend I literally saw someone tweet all HBCUs should have come up with money to keep CP. Come on man.....
@GeorgeFoster72
I wish people would stop limiting MLK to the "Dream Speech" because what they would find out is he was so much broader than that & so much more radical than perceived.
When someone asks if you're ok & you're trying to put on the good face for the sake of moving forward but you're really not, then everything comes out. Losing a loved one without the time to grieve is hard, you're just glad someone sees it.
Suns coach Monty Williams shared an emotional embrace with Rockets coach Stephen Silas ๐๐ฝ
Paul Silas, the father of Stephen, passed away on Saturday at the age of 79.
Smh......HBCU Coaches have been winning for years. The celebrity that is Coach Prime is doing more for those who will "skip the line/grind" than he will for Black coaches in general. This is the institution that hired Karl Dorrell & Mel Tucker.
Blended family moment! My 16 yr old is actually my stepdaughter, Bio dad is present too & it's his weekend. Since me & wife do most of the "heavy lifting" & wifey is out of town, Bio dad said he'd take my son too.....I ain't had a free night in 100 years....who drankin!! ๐๐
It's sad in every way because the media machine will generalize as he did initially & HBCUs will take the hit. I know he wanted to be a change agent, but social media gets people fired every day!
I don't know how you spin this NFL draft for HBCUs in any positive light. There are some realities that we have to face in relation to that word "exposure".....
Bravo....this is it. Coach George chose to listen for understanding, then responded in partnership. He also talked about differences amongst HBCUs & the value systems. Powerful!
Coach Eddie George talks about how he approached coming into coaching at an HBCU. Also Shannon Sharpe heard y'all loud and clear and gave y'all props Prairie View. ๐
Just listened to 92.9 about how UGA went on a 100 Georgia HS recruiting blitz around the state using helicopter(s)....please stop the FCS-HBCU/Power-5 comparisons.
@nhannahjones
That has to be incredibly difficult because by nature of the military it breaks you down to build you up yet you're put up against people who are marching on behalf of your equality. That's hard!!
I want to thank everyone that has reached out due to my Mother's passing. She fought the good fight but she is now at rest. We'll get back to talking ball in a few days!! Thank you again!!
That Rep in TN asking that question is nothing new. No different than in athletics where Power-5 coaches/mainstream media have been asking "how in the world could the likes of 5โญ's choose HBCUs over us?"..... something is brewing....we need to be ready!
I bought a recliner for football season & it finally came today. My mom made this quilt a few months before she passed in June. I put it away when we got back home from the services but now I feel it's appropriate to bring back out!
I encourage everyone in HBCU Media to big up your institution as much as possible because it won't be about social media behavior, it'll be about how HBCUs aren't ready for big time coaches.
I need specifics. What do these people that have been at the top of the economic hierarchy of their profession want to see done with these institutions that have been billions of dollars underfunded? We ain't perfect but I need these coaches to make it plain.
I told some people a while back, hating ass coaches would be the ones that would get the ball rolling on changing NIL. Coach Prime denies the claim but even if they did Alabama got 9,500,000 five stars but calls out JSU.... that's some garbage!!
It's nothing wrong with student advocacy. It is the essence of the HBCU experience. Students have the right to call out grievances as they see fit on every level, but again, keep it to those individual institutions.
I think some are getting it twisted. For me it has very little to do with a structure of an NIL deal or lack there of & more to do with the "we need to restore order" or "that ain't supposed to happen at JSU" vibe coming out that room!!
Social media is a gift & curse. Had to shut my FB down a couple of days ago because I got a friend request from my Mom who passed away in June. I know accounts get hacked but it did something, especially as we get closer to next weekend. Protect your peace!
HBCUs are using these apps & creativity to attract these new age athletes & I absolutely love to see it!! Find those content creators on your campus & let them work to grow your audiences!
Cut & dry with Ed Reed as it was simply a matter of employer vs social media of a potential employee, & HBCUs still aren't monoliths to be lumped together & judged, but after the Roland Martin interview & the
@OffScript_Vidz
Show, somebody needs to head to Daytona, RIGHT NOW!!!
Sy'veon Wilkerson has to be the biggest transfer pick up in at least FCS football, if not beyond. That team was already deep but has been awesome for JSU. In this version of their "Air Raid", Wilkerson has flourished.
The reason I'm c/o 2002 from A&T & not c/o 2001 is because I left after my freshman year for the National Guard for a semester! Shouts to the Vets out there!! Happy Veterans Day!
When the Boom played "We Are the Champions" at halftime it gave me chills. You could feel the collective exhale and inhale that the school was going to be alright. I'm no JSU apologist but you have to respect it.
HBCU Sports Media......as everything is happening in real time the trend will be to point out what our school aren't in comparison to those with the "bells & whistles".....we HAVE to ramp up the highlights and truths about our institutions even more than we been doing before!!
HBCU Media is doing big things in this space....both old & new! Respect it all, follow your favorite HBCU team's pages & bloggers/vloggers that cover your squad because often they have insight & info that mainstream media can't get access to. Support Black media!!!
Give Fayetteville St. some props..... they're a DII HBCU that has gotten looks from the NFL. My guy Kion Smith last year got his opportunity now Joshua Williams.
I can never hate on an HBCU institution or HBCU conference truly stepping out here and changing the game, all while being unified in their approach regardless of whether I graduated from there or not.
The people on the left got married 14 years ago today, the people on the right are still together even after life has kicked their butt, they constantly have to reinvent themselves & exude a large degree of patience & understanding! Regardless, there's no place I'd rather be!
If everything is confirmed....please quit blaming HBCUs for not being able to keep top coaching talent. There are so many factors as LRIs in general that go into what we are able to do & that is not the HBCU mission. Sports can help be a vehicle but will never be the main course.
So where's ol boy that said Coach Staley wasn't a good coach that she just had players & that the only reason Caitlin wouldn't win is because of DEI....yeah....so.....
She's resting well. It's tough because we've lost both of our parents in less than a year's time but I take comfort in knowing they are no longer in pain. Thank you all for reaching out, prayers & condolences. We'll be back talking ball soon!
Coach George speaks on not just the importance of the land grant money that is owed to TSU but the importance that Tennessee State does the right thing with said money.
โI do see color, because I believe if you donโt see color you canโt see racism.โ
Jerod Mayo on being named the first black head coach in Patriots history.
Straight up, I was always mixed on "gatekeeping" but some of the statements & shots that have been thrown at HBCUs in general makes you want to shut the doors. You can be critical if you're informed and about improvement, but if you're just going to insult, then keep it pushin!
@bomani_jones
Bo, that ain't bad, you got that same hairline I had. I just went on & shaved it when a student of mine called me "Willy Wayback"........
