The underground coyote. Stupidpol lefty. I encourage you to think critically and be intellectually curious, so I piss off extremists. Cardiff City FC fan.
One of my biggest character flaws is thinking I can somehow convince people with the right choice of words or rhetoric ala Fallout. It ends up with me debating basically everyone I meet.
I can't tell you how much I hate this comic.
If you're rejected by one side enough, you WILL inevitably gravitate towards a side more accepting of you. Social shaming and ostracism has consequences, you can't just bully people into accepting your world view.
@terminallyOL
OK buddy, come back to me when you gather the slightest bit of self-awareness about how rightoids like Trump gained as much popularity as they have. You know I'm not strictly talking about this one guy.
@terminallyOL
Guy in the clip seems like a dunce, but let's be real, a lot of the left hasn't helped itself over the decade in how it's conducted itself. People like Bors have created more rightoids than they care to admit. It's a symbiotic never-ending spiral to the bottom.
@MostPeculiariti
There's something more base than ideology taking place there though: Psychology.
Casting someone out of a group into the arms of an other willing to sympathise will create conditions where they're more likely to sympathise with the other in question.
@DiceWarwick
Thank you for finding this for me, been looking for it all day lol.
In this instance, I'm not even making the "both sides make good points" argument either. I was saying treating people badly, mobbing them and giving them no chance to repent will create animosity.
@LexCastsHex
Let me explain this to you, because I genuinely think you don't understand.
That comic absolves the worst elements of the left from any responsibility for the rise of popularity right-wing dullards like that have had in the last decade online since Gamergate.
@Sakerift
@LexCastsHex
It's not having an argument with a trans person, it's dog piling and social shaming that leaves people open to being manipulated by the right-wing.
@MostPeculiariti
Let's divorce this from politics. If someone kicks me from behind, and another person says "Hey, are you alright?", you're not going to spit at the person helping you when you're in distress, are you?
@MostPeculiariti
"But you would if he was a Nazi!", that's not the point. When someone comes to someone else's aid, in this case, being swamped by shaming rituals, it creates an environment where people ARE susceptible to being influenced and sympathising more with the people coming to their aid.
@SakiMiyanagaSab
@chokensp
As someone who loves New Vegas, they literally built it from the foundation Fallout 3 established, they didn't make anything "from the ground up", they just refined the details.
@insomniasstits
@Sakerift
@LexCastsHex
People question themselves when they're younger especially. This is no different from a conservatives line of argument regarding willpower.
@Braedberi7
@terminallyOL
I'm explaining it from a psychological point of view.
If you're ostracised by one group and another asks "Hey, are you alright?", humans are geared to be thankful to that second group, unless they're literally "HitlerFan1488" (and those kinds of people won't be sympathetic lol)
@Bolverk15
I don't think even the biggest haters of the sequels would have had a problem with this tbh. Most of them thought Finn was wasted rather than being bad on his own.
@AaronBastani
@novaramedia
He seems like he could be persuaded away from con artists like Farage, so long as immigration worries are addressed honestly, openly and without immediately jumping to the conclusion of bigotry.
@elTav
@JonathanPieNews
@Noname06401912
No, but you can dismantle them intellectually without having to resort to violence. It's not that hard to rebutt someone like Farage.
@HenMazzig
@ninaturner
Nobody reasonable is saying anything like that. We're criticising Netanyahu and his regime for flagrant war crimes. Judaism or semitism does not even enter the equation one way or another.
@fozzy_mufc
@EliteClubS0B
The Bucks are basically pilotfish who coast off the success of others and claim it as their own, until the well runs dry, and they find someone else.
It's like a pair of Brutus Beefcakes, but with the backing of a journalist spinning positive stories and ratings for them.
@PearlteaRizzy
I realise what you're saying now, with more self-confidence in my own beliefs. But a lot of people don't, and they end up going down holes they can't come out from.
@Tyras_Mikhail
The saddest thing is there's a nuanced way to argue the major issues in the police force, but they make it out that the entire thing is a problem.
I argue Die Hard has a very good portrayal of it.
@PSA_Sitch
@BriannaWu
It's not "socialism". It's astroturfed social politics from the economically affluent that do not threaten the status quo and can be monetised to maintain economic control.
Simple base and superstructure.
@LexCastsHex
I do too. I'm still a leftist, I'm not letting this interaction change anything.
My point is, a lot of people are still discovering themselves politically. Do you want people to sympathise and support your movement or do you want to drive them away?
@_Hazardous_Wolf
@RobbieLeeRorrek
I think it might have something to do with dogpiling. He posted a couple of really dumb comics and a few tweets calling him out went viral. So he probably blockprompted the people who called him out, and you happen to follow one of them.
He-Man is not the holy grail of animation...but it's not trying to be. It's a fun, earnest adventure show that doesn't try to be sardonic and act above itself like a lot of modern animated shows.
It's authentic in its tone (whilst still being funny), and that's why it's praised.
Tbh I think a lot of 80s cartoons are very overrated. He-Man for example comes up a lot as this holy grail of animation... and then you watch it and there's just not much to it. Same with Thundercats. It's just nostalgia for the most part imo.
A product of their time I suppose.
@IrrationalChad
Let's not forget this is led by a guy who gets high off his own farts in trying to bring people down for petty ideological reasons in Hbomberguy.
Really tempted to disengage from Twitter for a while. I'm starting to get genuinely pissed off with the stupidity and bad faith being employed and encouraged lately. To be fair, I've not exactly been the most charitable myself at this point, but it's pretty hard to be right now.
Let me use an SW analogy to describe my issue with the shaming/ostracising tactics employed by parts of the left.
Anakin felt scorned and disliked by the Jedi, and Palpatine played upon that to convert him to the Sith. Palpatine is obviously evil, but the Jedi failed Anakin too.
