You want to know why Godot is great? Tooling! In the last hour I made my first Editor Plugin. Now the level editor can sync data between the game and Godot, so I can quickly prototype levels at runtime and polish them in the editor!!

Here's a preview of my very alpha, in-game level editor, makes designing levels significantly faster! I've started using the BetterTerrain plugin for Godot to draw the Walls, Desk and Computer decorations. Invest in tooling, you'll thank yourself later!

Behind the scenes of my Godot project! I'm using a chromakey shader to remove the background of my dynamically created scene thumbnails. I'm storing them inside the user:// directory and creating them once during the first launch of the game.

Level Editor now has generic thumbnail generation (including a chromakey shader to remove the background) and real-time item placement! This will be a massive speed boost to level development, improving the feedback cycle and iterative nature of level design.
