Labour got themselves into a mess over Gaza. Keir Starmer said some weird and wrong stuff on the radio and was slow to admit it. But they have almost exactly nothing to do with what's going on in the Middle East and the idea that they are "complicit" in "genocide" or "support"

If you work for this prime minister, for this government, for the Conservative Party or for this loathsome rag, and you are not fighting with every weapon in your arsenal to change them or destroy them, you are complicit in their proto-fascist bullshit

Call off the search party, they're here! Word is that the wicket is very batting friendly, which should work in India's favour. As should the fact that all their players are really good

Ashes latest! Ben Stokes: "Weโ€™ve been clear with the ground staff what type of wickets we want and they have been responsive. We want flat, fast wickets." Ground staff: "I can 100% tell you I have never been told that." My interview with Edgbaston's Gary Barwell:

In April Ben Stokes was asked what kind of pitches he was hoping to play on in the Ashes. His reply was unequivocal: 'We want flat, fast wickets.' In the hours after the interview was broadcast, Gary Barwellโ€™s phone started pinging. By @Simon_Burnton

India win the toss, which goes down well. I've seen two Pakistan fans, posing for photos and generally being treated like celebrities. One may actually be a celebrity - someone told me he was an influencer. If you hear a chant for Pakistan today he's obviously a bloody good one

Back at Gate 1, 11.40am. Less than an hour before the "star-studded opening ceremony" gets under way, just so many people. Still seems pretty calm

@rwilliams1947 @jeremycwhittle I thought Saronni's quotes about Aru (this is from @cyclingweekly ) were extraordinary. Absolutely vicious

Rizwan was released from hospital late on Wednesday morning, and played a World Cup semi-final on Thursday. Honestly can't get over it, he is an actual superhero

A thrilling end to the Test in Karachi as Pakistan and Australia draw again. Talking of which, here's a thing about drawn Tests:

Lamela's delight at Son's second goal was written all over his face there. And Rose looks pretty chuffed too

This is a nice piece. I got to know Gianluca Vialli, and his assistant Ray Wilkins, a little while they were at Watford, in particular on the pre-season trip to Italy. Class players and class people, I remember them both (if not their team) with great fondness and respect

Hands off Joao Pedro, obviously, but good as he is this team needs a RWB and a genuine, fit, non-comedy CF more than it needs Ismaila Sarr. Unless he wants to play RWB himself, obviously, which I think would be a lot of fun (occasionally for our opponents)

๐Ÿšจ Update: #WatfordFC do not intend to sell Joao Pedro and Ismaila Sarr before todayโ€™s deadline, @TheAthleticUK understands. Both subject to offers this window but club keen to keep until at least January to aid promotion push. More here.

Keir Starmer at Vicarage Road today. He must have enjoyed watching the team in red claim victory, though annoying that the opposition was a bit feeble and kept missing obvious opportunities to attack
