This is a nice house. And not a small one. But my earnestly held belief is that a house like this should be affordable to buy on the salary of a middle manager. Which is what it was in 1935.

This ordinary suburban London 3 bed house in Zone 4 metroland was built in the 1930s for ordinary middle class families. Today it costs almost a million pounds and you’d need to be in the top 0.5% of earners to be able to buy it on a mortgage

β€œI’m not even kidding. What can I say? Richmond Park is an expensive place to live." Lib Dem MP @sarahjolney1 tells @IainDale that even some of her constituents - on a combined income of Β£180,000 - are asking for advice on housing costs.

@ProfMarkMaslin @Dr_RWP Your claim might be correct but the evidence on which you base it is weak. We have temperature records for a small part of the earth going back 150 years. For a consistent measure of the whole earth temperatures we have records going back 40 years. Everything else is conjecture.

@GyllKing 87% of the UK population is white. Over the last decade 19% of women selected for the England football team have been black or mixed race. The current squad of 23 (selected on merit btw) includes 3 such players. Now go and watch the women's sprint at the Commonwealth Games.

Fear of Islam - if that is what islamaphobia means - is a real thing. Why would people not be fearful of something that has supporters who shout "god is great" while hacking at a dying man's head with a shovel? And has clerics who defend such attacks as legitimate?

@Irish_Atheist And, to be greedy, his grandfather was master of a cable laying boat in SE Asia. Got a medal from the King of Siam for rescuing people affected by tidal waves after the Krakatoa eruption.

Am I the only one who thinks the Brexit Naked Woman is doing it because she likes being naked and shouting about Brexit provides a sort of post hoc rationalisation?

@ianboydsnr @Crunch2327 Small modular nuclear reactors for power generation do not exist. One has not yet been built in the West. Basing any significant aspect of energy strategy or energy security on them is absurd. Costs and delivery times are aspirations, not facts.

Another planning classic. School wants an all-weather pitch, local junior football team wants to share. Great yes? Nope - whistles might be blown after 7pm and there might be some cars. *Bedlam*!

The situation in Rafah is very worrying. An Israeli offensive must not go ahead. There must be an end to the loss of innocent lives. There should immediately be a ceasefire, the release of hostages and aid should be allowed into Gaza.

Why has the UK not done this? Oh yes, it is because they don't want to tell people in, for example, North Yorkshire or Hampshire that there'll be a nuclear power station down the road. And anyway right now there will be tens of millions and 20 years before anything gets done.
