Many asked for other ways to support the blog, our sideline store is up and running with shirts and other items! Feel free to send the link to friends looking for gameday apparel!
Can confirm we have asked (or want to) retain Mickey. What people have to remember is if MJ wants to coach here still under Rhule? He will have a ton of options. He’s our
#1
recruit right now for the new HC.
Spread the word… if you are going to the basketball game today, when the ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “accidentally” gets put on the big screen with his dad, the rafters need to shake.
So what do you do with Hoiberg at this point? Best season under him, we are injured everywhere, winning underdog games and playing Purdue close. But is that good enough? For me it is.
I like how we are so beaten down by being Nebraska fans that we are now having people give us all the reasons Rhule won't succeed here and ignoring 90% of national media telling us how great of a hire this is. Your ammo to combat the negativity here:
Not entirely sure Rhule and his staff could have played QB recruiting any better. All in on the
#1
guy in the country, doesn’t work out so you get the
#1
in-state guy.
Should hear by tomorrow on Mickey. With that said, just because he's "in" tomorrow doesn't mean he won't get an offer elsewhere he bolts for. Dude has a ton of options right now.
Kind of in shock, but not really, that so many fans are so beaten down after the past years they think we just got told no by everyone which is why we waited and why these other coaches are signing extensions. What if I told you one finally signed because WE moved on?
Trev Alberts talking about his stadium project and the lack of a President at Nebraska. I would say this is one of the issues that has/had him looking. Maybe not the whole reason, as I think other things are issues as well, but food for thought.
Colorado Football, Coach Prime addresses the O Line, running game issues and keeping Shedeur Sanders upright:
"The big picture, you go get new lineman. That's the picture and I'ma paint it perfectly."

Zero doubt in my mind I would have went the exact opposite route and grabbed five plates of food all to myself and captioned “almost too much food.” Glad we have a better man than I running our program.
I think some of us need to take a step back and think about what Alberts laid out for qualities he was looking for in the next HC when we run with some of these “sources say X will be next HC at Nebraska” tweets. Just really stop and think about it and move on.
Some media members never cease to amaze me. I heard for 4-5 years that Frost needed more time to rebuild what he inherited, after giving us the worst stretch in 50 plus years I am now reading Rhule isn’t in a rebuild.
I defended Chinander due to how hard it was to be a DC for a guy like Frost. Those offenses are where great DCs go to die. Bookmark this, but I’m not buying the USC hype and DC White is here in 2024.
Big news here to watch. Bellevue West QB Daniel Kaelin de-commits from Missouri the same week Dylan Raiola committed to Georgia. These were the only two QBs Matt Rhule publicly offered for 2024. 👀
I’ve been riding with
@Huskers
for so much of my life. This game means as much to me as when I heard we couldn’t compete with Florida speed in the Fiesta bowl.
We go over the TCU 3-3-5 that held Michigan to 6 points in the first half, and debunk the theory that we don’t have “the dogs” to run what they are doing. New post is up!
Starting to feel much more comfortable me with our OL recruiting than I was two weeks ago. Would I prefer Pyform over a couple of them, yes. But when we finish this class out, Raiola will have done a hell of a job. And I was a skeptic. Now coach em’ up.
Massive get for us. 28 starts for the Sun Devils between center and tackle. Also a pipeline to same school as Mariota and Dominic Raiola. Big one here y’all!
Insane Connor Stalions video from the 2022 Ohio State game.
Stalions tells DC Jesse Minter "run right" on 2nd and 9 for OSU.
Michigan immediately crashes both safeties, leaves the middle of the field wide open, and the Buckeyes run offset to the middle-right.
Holy Cross QB Matthew Sluka, an All-American, entered the portal as a grad transfer; in his career he passed for 5,916 yards and 59 TD while rushing for 3,583 yards and 38 TD

Have to agree with
@vegasbedwards
from this morning on the radio that Matt Rhule would be a ‘Grand Slam hire’ for us. Conference title at Temple, Conf coach of the year at Baylor during a scandal. I’m a little surprised our fans aren’t more on board with him.
Some context on the background of this tweet (since been deleted) per source.
@Channel8ABC
-Training Table is Closed this week to everyone for maintenance, etc., to prepare for upcoming seasons, school year
-This is common every year
-This was communicated to all teams and
When people say “Frost was a sure thing” to discredit fans and medias positivity is about the dumbest thing I’ve been reading today. 1) no one is saying Rhule is a sure thing 2) should we get someone that everyone thinks sucks? Our fans are pretty comical sometimes.
We've got a 5 part series starting tomorrow for your holiday reading pleasure!
Mon: Comparing Nebraska hire to 4 other teams
Tue: Going over the Nebraska coaches
Wed: Our recruiting strategy
Thu: Nebraska place in NIL
Fri: Using transfer portal as a positive
If Raiola is basically saying he needs to start, how do you fill out your QB room? Who is coming here if we just told the 3rd team All-B1G QB he wasn't playing?
When you remember you got kicked off a message board for pointing out some deficiencies with the staff that would need to change for them to have success
Disappointing season, a bowl game was there for the taking. But I also see a good foundation being laid. Offensively lots to figure out. Portal QB. Do we move Satt to OC/TE coach and bring in a QB coach?
Nebraska had 9 drives against Minny, 4 of which ended in turnovers. Nebraska averaged 12.66 in 2022. Differences aside, possessions are a premium in 2023 and turnovers are that much bigger of a deal.
#protecttheball
I don’t get the take that Rhule has been wanting to put Sims back in for awhile. I think HH had taken enough shots and we need him the rest of the way, and Sims is our backup. But we did solidify who won’t be starting again.
It’s just comical at this point. These guys leaving were the ones last year that were considered “Louis” and massive upgrades. When Prime is gone in Boulder CU is going to have zero players on their roster.
1) Michigan
2) Washington
3) Florida State
4) Texas
It’s way too easy and clean for the committee to do it this way. “We valued undefeated seasons, games matter. Conference champions. And head to head matchups.”
Takes all the complaining out of it.
Had an NIL update post locked and loaded with some updates, challenges, and how I think we are in a much better spot than 12 months ago. But we may have to table that with this news to celebrate.
Just a reminder for when our transfers start happening this week and uneducated CU fans start trying to show why it's similar to them... We have to get to 85, they are already 20 players below that. Wayyy different situations.
Getting pretty pumped for the article tomorrow where we dive into TCU's 3-3-5. People that say "we don't have the players like TCU" or can't recruit them may want to avert their eyes. Very encouraging for us moving forward.
I have a lot of great content for next week after a few conversations over drinks. How Rhule and his staff are doing locally so far, why "just put them on NIL scholarship" to get to 85 isn't a real thing, and how excited should we be about these transfers we are getting?
The amount of people referencing 1-11 at Baylor first year while leaving out the part that he quite literally had less scholarship players when he got there than Penn State did under their probation period is interesting. Learn more here:
Screw it, OWH just dropped theirs i'm dropping mine. For your reading pleasure, Matt Rhule as a coach, where his assistants are now, what he brings to us with schematics offensively and defensively. Enjoy!
Just rip the bandaid off and announce Washington and Oregon. I want zero to do with Cal or Stanford. Cal brings nothing to the table and we already have a nerd school that blows and doesn’t care.
I feel like this sentiment comes around with each coaching change, but this staff is really working on relationships. Not sure i've ever seen two separate coaches at one school at different times. Normally we had a person responsible for Omaha.
Frost notes Nebraska tweaked its strength training a bit this year. A little less lifting and a little more movement and speed/running this year.
#Huskers
will probably stick with that moving forward, Frost said.
Listen, that was PI. But Wisky ripping off a 53 yard rushing TD to take the lead while we are in 4th and 20 and begging for a PI call is a good indicator of where we are right now.
In Charlotte for ACC championship presser. Of note, Mack Brown says one UNC starter told him he has 15 offers to transfer, for NIL $. Mack calls it a huge problem, "people that are tampering with your team" trying to lure them. Thinks UNC has lost 5 recruits because of it, too.
Hopefully just sweater vests so there were no serious injuries. Haven’t seen Crayton fans this mad since November when Nebraska missed a bowl game for the sixth straight season.
Had a chance to learn more about how Nebraska is working and our collective, what challenges we still have, and how much better off we are now. New post is up!

This is about as accurate as the administration telling the student section they couldn’t chant “Husker Power” during the opposing teams introductions. It’s not personal with a “boo”, it’s college athletics.
With the largest roster in FBS thanks to our walk-ons, i'll never understand how for 4 years we didn't tackle in practice to avoid injuries. While MJ has had his struggles, I did see almost instant improvement when he and Busch moved to live tackling. Gives me hope for 2023.
While I won’t go as far to call people fake football guys, this tweet resonates a ton with me. We haven’t gone to a bowl since 2016 and we are worried about guys leaving? I hope Rhule can bring in 50 guys.
If the numbers I’m hearing are right for what MJ wants in salary as an assistant, you’ll have to pay each coordinator 1.5, and be at 4 million minimum for those 3 and need to hire 7 more guys. Frosts asst salary pool was 5.15 for comparison. I think we get in the 7’s for our pool
Nebraska baseball basically has to live in the JUCO and transfer portal recruiting world, all while having a lower NIL budget than teams like Iowa and others. Something that makes 2 conference titles and 2 regional appearances in 4 years very impressive under Bolt IMO.
#huskers
I’m not sure if KState will end up winning this, but if we can get our offense to be what their HC has made down there I will be ecstatic. They have a plan and execute.
Following Twitter accounts that announce transfer portal entrants, I find myself seeing 3 or 4 players each day I want Rhule to go after. Then I realize we can't give out 150 scholarships.
As of last night, we were in a "really good spot". "Big" meeting was at 9AM this morning. I've heard the rumors, have zero update from today, but i'm holding out hope that they are just trying to make a massive NSD splash.
I have this play in my spring game write-up. This guy touches on it a tad, but it’s about how DR knows the offense so well he barely fakes it because the run isn’t there, getting it out quick is the important part. The fake was not important. He’s super intelligent.
#huskers
Only 5 high school commits for Colorado and zero in-state, the first time that’s ever happened. As I’ve told people, if this is how college football will be I don’t want any part of it. But this strategy will end up failing miserably, so the game I love is safe.
Colorado signed five HS prospects yesterday. The Buffs still hope to ink 5-star OT Jordan Seaton.
That's an unserious approach to a rebuild.
Either Deion Sanders has been overrated as a recruiter, or he simply isn't interested in doing the work. Either are problematic.
People coming with “it’s just one basketball game…” and then some reference to whatever. I get it. But we’ve never won “just one of these basketball games” and what’s standing in our way from breaking that streak is a guy that left us when we needed his leadership.
#huskers
Someone tried getting mad at me when I told them what has to be said to the
#1
QB in the country if he commits here. It really is what it is. Purdy played his tail off for us, and I think somewhere will get a nice QB addition.
I hate to do this but I will… Colorado with 70 new scholarship players looked way better and more efficient on offense than we have the last 5 years. That was pretty impressive.
Had a great chat over drinks last night with someone “in the know” about what Nebraska’s plans are to catch up to the rest of the pack in the NIL space and get better. We will also go over some of the last coaching hires/changes next week.
I bagged on our NIL for the first couple years when people thought things were great. It wasnt. Happy to say we are finally in a spot where we have enough money to build our team the way Hoiberg/Rhule want. Still can't compete with big boys, but that's not how they want it anyway
Nebraska is now at 101 (projected) scholarship players.
With 64 returning scholarship players, 16+ will need to move on to get to 85 by August. 25+ % of returning scholarship players will not be on scholarship for the '23 season.
So many will hate this, but we are in a new age of college football where putting your name in the portal allows you to renegotiate your NIL dollars nearly every year. Kids are almost dumb NOT to put their name in.
For those of you who were unaware, check out my new website for a blog on Nebraska football. Preseason position breakdowns going on now, along with a few general football convos!
My one positive from today:
So far so good on the “if Oliver Martin plays for us he will lead our team in receptions” prediction that got me kicked off the message board.
Me trying to figure out if it's a great thing we are flying everywhere to meet with QBs because we are vetting all options, or if it's because we keep being told "maybe" by people
This will be in my post game review next week… but I’ll say it now. Once doesn’t worry me, may even be a result of things prior. Two times I pay attention. Three times it’s an issue. I know we feel like jumping off a ledge but let’s let Rhule change things.
This is the last thing I’ll say on our QB situation. I’ll never say a guy that transferred because he wasn’t guaranteed the starting spot is the answer. Talk to me about how we didn’t bring the right guy in, but don’t tell me the guy that ran is the answer. Not in year 1.
