"Pizza Delivery" premiered 22 years ago today. Here's the
#storyboard
for scene 84 panel A
This was the first
#SpongeBob
episode I worked on, side by side with the amazing
@aaron_springer
I see lotsa comments saying
#SpongeBob
is animated "digitally" now... But one look at the hallways of Rough Draft Korea blows that idea away (this is just the tip of the iceberg).

This bit was directly inspired by what actually happened to Aaron Springer when he once worked as a food delivery guy!
Some Bubblebass pose sheets - Artists include
@FredOsmond
, Mike Dougherty, Maureen Mascarina, Steve Fonti, Chris Mitchell and
@JayLender1
. Source episodes include "Pickles” (bottom half of page) "Larry the Floor Manager"

This is my favorite frame from the SpongeBob SquarePants movie, seen here is the orginal storyboard by
@ShermCohen
and the final frame in the movie. If I ever get a SpongeBob tattoo, it would be of this for sure.
If you wanna to learn Storyboard Pro in a hurry, I made these videos just for you: Quick chapters

@ToonBoom
Made for v5.5 but 99% of the important basics are exactly the same as current.

A lot of the really early rough roughs (before I got my mitts on it) were done by Paul Tibbitt and then a later pass by Steve Hillenburg...

I looked at my scans and sadly I can't figure it out (someone covered it up before shipping). But here's a color scan of the same panel:
Here's the final black-and-white version (promoting "Dunces and Dragons" special). I changed his costume because it needed more "Oomph!" Process pics here:
Yugoslavia made some of the 20th century's wildest, zaniest animation. But it's tough to find most of it in good quality -- or at all.
That's changing. Free, restored copies are popping up on an official YouTube channel. We bring you a viewing guide:

Steve Hillenburg came
up with the idea for the new look because King Neptune in the
movie is a much sillier
character than the version in the show. We never want to be
limited by what we've done in
the past; entertainment &
fun are more important than
"continuity" or "canon".
I love the six-legged spider bit... It's a good reminder that CLARITY is more important than "accuracy." Plus, who wants to animate eight spider legs if you don't have to?
@ArtofSpongebob
This great drawing by Caleb has always been my single favorite piece of press art...he totally captured SpongeBob's infectious cartoony energy, playfulness and charm 💛
Joe Kubert was one of the greatest teachers I ever had...I can't believe all these Kubert School Correspondence Course videos are right here for free (official, not bootleg)!
A CARTOONY cartoon that's wildly fresh and inventive 😜 I bet this is what it felt like in the 1920's when people saw the first cartoons for the very first time < 🥰swoon😍>
@Crimson_Mayhem_
All the magic was really in the rough sketches... Two of these were by Aaron and one where he's coming in the door was either roughed by Steve or Derek Drymon. I had a great time working from their sketches, but the roughs were the heart of it all.
@ArtofSpongebob
These were really put together for the crew... So each of us artists could get inspired and challenged by the best poses and expressions of our fellow board artists. Later on, we included them with test reference, but they remain a big part of our internal "artist inspiration."
This Mustang Liquor animated neon sign has fascinated me since I was a little kid. Finally saw it up close at its new home at the Valley Relics Museum!
@DeaditeBoi
That's the most current SpongeBob model we've been using since we started the 2nd movie in 2012. There's more interesting line weight variation which works well for HD.

In the first season we didn't have any incidental designs yet (Pizza delivery was the 3rd episode to be storyboarded) -- we just made them up as we boarded each show. Later down the road they turned the storyboard characters into numbered incidentals like this one.
@urasawa_naoki
This is fantastic news…I hope that English translations will become available after your successful launch with the digital Japanese editions.
