Friends: I started a Substack called "The Analytics Say..." where I'm going to be writing about thoughts that are too long for Twitter.
It is free and will always be free.
My first post is on where does the Royals organization goes from here
Clark Hunt asking for $1B in county money on the same day that the results came out that he was voted as the worst "owner in terms of willingness to invest in facilities" is just hilarious
Open target miss rate: the percentage of time that the receiver was charted as open, but the pass was charted as inaccurate, as a percentage of all charted open target attempts. Just 2023 only so far.
NFL tries everything they can do to draw a new generation in, including multi-casting a game on a kids channel.
Meanwhile the MLB is ratting out people who post a three second GIF of Dan Vogelbach on Twitter and blacking out 49 states from a broadcast
Total quarterback EPA in games where the team ended up losing. Left side is mostly the QB played well in the loss. Right side is mostly the team lost due to QB play probably.
Allen and Herbert both have 25+ EPA
*Dobbs EPA figure includes MIN and AZ
Martes gets 162 suspension for taking something that theoretically can help you cheat
All other Astros players get a 0 game suspension for actually cheating
There comes a point where you have to stop getting upset at the player - and be upset that he's being asked to do something that he's repeatedly shown an inability to do.
Elon Musk just suspended Business Insider reporter Linette Lopez for documenting the times Elon had his enemies tracked and doxxed
She did not post anything related to Elon’s jet
She has done amazing investigative reporting on Tesla
All 22 angle of the Kelce lateral/Toney offside play. Doesn't appear Toney once checks with the sideline judge on his side from this.
Also amazing job still from Kelce finding him in space.
@MLB
crying copyright & getting a Twitter suspended is so petty. Particularly someone like
@PitchingNinja
who does nothing but promote how great the game is and how amazing some pitchers are. Man, y'all need to chill. It's 2018. People are going to post GIFs. It's free promotion.
Royals players Whit Merrifield, Andrew Benintendi, Hunter Dozier, Cam Gallagher, MJ Melendez, Brady Singer, Brad Keller, Kyle Isbel, Michael A. Taylor and Dylan Coleman will be placed on the restricted list for the four-game series in Toronto, per manager Mike Matheny.
Updated version of the chart. Data now back to 2020 (removed some inactive QBs like Brady). Also included total of open throw attempts.
Realized I cut off Bryce Young, who actually only had one bad throw! Good for you Bryce.

Wily Peralta, who has a 5.80 ERA/5.84 FIP and gives up a double, a single, an IBB, and a hit by pitch before recording an out, yelling at his 22yo catcher because he didn't like the sign he put down. Because the sign was the issue.
Edward Olivares has been optioned/recalled to/from Omaha/Kansas City 14 times this year (not kidding here).
At ~185 miles between the two, Olivares has travelled roughly 2,600 miles, which is nearly the distance from Kansas City to the North Pole.

With the acquisition of Billy Hamilton, Royals will have the
5th fastest player (Hamilton)
9th fastest player (Mondesi)
34th fastest player (Orlando if he re-signs)
37th fastest player (Merrifield)
47th fastest player (Phillips)
No other team has 2 in the top 10
(Per Statcast)
Hunter Dozier is the Royals first player to ever hit two triples in a game as DH. He's only the 10th player in history to do it (since the DH has existed).
Last done by David Ortiz in 2004
It's pretty clear the Royals MIF next year on opening day should be Witt Jr/Lopez at SS/2B.
Even if you think Lopez regresses, he's at this point more reliable/better than Mondesi and has earned the start.
