Big talk around the country about reducing speed limits, which in places makes huge sense (e.g. outside schools), but I feel a much bigger problem is policing of the existing limits in urban and rural areas - and policing dangerous driving.

Very sensibly, ESB ecars has reversed its decision to make the minimum account balance €20/£20, and from immediate effect it has been changed back to the original €5/£5. Lots of EV drivers complaining to us about issues since that change. Thankfully should be back to normal now

Second test car this week is the new Mercedes-AMG A 35, the ‘junior’ AMG car. As if there’s anything junior about 306hp, 400Nm, big brakes, loud exhaust and all-wheel drive. Relatively subtle looking in this gorgeous colour and quite a restrained car. Me likey.

I’ve the Volkswagen Amarok on test this week and it’s an impressive work vehicle with huge ability, but it really has no place in an urban environment. Feels like a whale out of water!

I’m also testing the Skoda Enyaq Coupe this week. Not sold on the illuminated grille but the glass roof is tasty and it drives well. Any questions about this rear-drive ‘80’ model?

I am overjoyed to hear that my wife (a hospital doctor/consultant) today has had the COVID-19 vaccine. It didn’t feel like it really existed until I knew someone close to me that got it. Now let’s get it into everyone else as quickly as possible please @DonnellyStephen

My first test car this week is the Honda e:Ny1, a compact electric crossover. Great passenger space and decent cabin with large upright touchscreen but boot a little small and it’s also quite expensive. Thoughts? Anything else you’d like to know about it?

No idea if it's coming to this part of the world, but Toyota has just confirmed that a new version of the GR Supra will be introduced soon with something novel called *checks notes* a 'manual gearbox'. Praise be.

If you have to fly out at a godawful time from Dublin airport (and you drive an Audi) it’s worth trying out the @audiireland parking service. Slick and easy to use. They’ll clean the car and more while you’re away as well.
