Hot take of the day: I think PGY-1s should make as much as a new grad NP or PA. My college friends in these roles received their full new-grad salary even while on-the-job training… I probably won’t see this change, but maybe trainees behind me will.
I matched! Can’t wait to find out who my co-residents will be and where I’ll land!
To my friends and colleagues who did not match: I am so proud of all of your accomplishments and know that an algorithm does not define your success nor your worth. ❤️
#Match2024
Ok, I get paying back the loans I took out… but 8% interest? They have to make money off of students giving years of their lives to become contributing members of society/ healthcare workers who will care for people?
The match video 🥺 what a day!! Can’t wait to become the best EM doc I can be at a dream residency program!! Already feeling welcomed into the COPA fam
@CopaEM_
Hi! I’m Savannah and I am

I am the
@ACOEPRSO
Director of Student Affairs. I am passionate about harm reduction, social EM, and mentorship and leadership within the EM community! In my free time I love running, camping trips with my pups, and XC-skiing!
Had a very “high-expectation”™️ preceptor on my last rotation and I tried my best to rise to the challenge. Got my eval back today and he finished by saying I will be a superb resident 🥹
what if you’re making a rank list consisting of incredible programs all over the country and your life would be a perfectly happy but completely different version of itself in each place?
(asking for a friend of course)
Last day of Step 1 dedicated!! Riding a couple of reassuring practice tests into tomorrow… and trying to quell anxiety by trusting the process 😅 Send good energy!
Me: omg yes, esophageal dysmotility, South America. It’s got to be Chagas!
*whew, can’t believe I put that together, that was really from the step 1 DEPTHS*
Qbank: 91% answered correctly
From a future EM doc: I’ll be working holidays likely for the rest of my career.
This time is sacred and med students should get to enjoy holidays with family while we can. Plenty of other days for learning
I will finish UWorld ~5 weeks before step 2/level 2 with an easy final rotation but a 2 week true dedicated period.
Should I restart the bank or just do incorrects? Or focus efforts on AMBOSS or Truelearn?
As a future EM doc: I got to do probably the coolest final med student rotation.
What an awesome opportunity to see critical care air transport from an incredibly well-trained and intelligent staff.
Thanks
@bostonmedflight
LAST ROTATION OF MED SCHOOL STARTS MONDAY 🚁🚁 Time for some flight time and EMS shifts!
We might actually make it friends!!
(Also I picked the coolest specialty on the planet and I’m so happy)
Trying to learn to accept complements graciously because today when my attending told me that I did a nice job I said “even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while” 🙃
Getting married the weekend after graduating from med school so obviously addressing my classmates invites as “Dr. xxx“ 🥹
Wild to see my friends’ names after that title for the first time! We’re almost there!
Surgery is weirdly fun… I love seeing the anatomy, the variety of general surgery, the team atmosphere, and my hands stopped shaking when I suture!! But these hours are no joke 🌞🌝
And it’s sent! Nothing like a final second look two days before rank lists are due to solidify the list 🤠
Here’s to 17 more days of anxiously waiting to find out which program we’ll land it. Rooting for you
#Match2024
In general, I wished people asked more open ended questions about the match
“What are some of your favorite programs?”
vs:
“What is your number 1?”
Most of us struggled to make our lists and that alone indicates we can love more than one program 😤
Had my first residency interview as part of my Sub-I and my college friend texted me to ask when I would hear back… I said March 😅 this process is really so wild
If any other job required you to PAY to apply, it would be a pyramid scheme (looking at you MONAT)… but when it comes to our first job as a physicians it’s just the way it is
From talking to friends: it’s really really hard to live alone in most cities on a resident budget.
At around 30 years old and working weird hours it’s not ideal to have a roommate.
@itsmetheHBIC
Genuinely didn’t feel like my tweet was punching down and wasn’t my intention. I was comparing trainees to trainees. Re: other professionals get a salary while in a training period. I have a lot of respect for PAs/NPs and their role in healthcare!
Had an awesome experience at my first EM Sub-I! I learned so much from a group of residents who were as passionate about teaching as they were about their patients. Thanks
@BrownEMRes
Sometimes I think about how my dogs are a huge part of my support system… grinding through medical school with me and they might not be around for
#attendinglife
😭 but they deserve the world
First day of surgery rotation tomorrow! Wish me luck 😌
Shout out to the scrub tech who slipped me an extra chlorhexadine to practice over the weekend after scrub class on Friday!
At an interview the PD said something about “your class, starting in June…” 😳
Absolutely wild that we will be starting our first jobs as physicians in 6 months.
I’m get married and choosing to change my last name in between graduation and starting residency!
Any advice to make this process as smooth as possible? Things to be aware of from those who have gone through the process before?
I feel like there is bound to be less emphasis on step 2 over time.
Students have already cultivated a resume/story, found their passions, and secured sub-internships in their chosen field by the time they will even take this exam.
Finished my second sub-I today! Had the chance to treat and “own” high acuity patients from start to finish, improve my ultrasound skills, and learn from some pretty incredible “Pit Bosses”. Thanks
@hcmcEM
…and importantly attend the MN State fair ✨
Making sure I’m on top of everything for match, graduation, and planning a wedding is a lot to keep track of
Double checking that I’ve registered for NRMP, have met my requirements, and am remembering to invite guests to the wedding 😅
Certified and submitted my application yesterday and assigned letters and personal statement today ✨
I can’t believe I am already applying to residency!
I’ve been accruing interest on my loans and I finally applied for income driven repayment through the SAVE plan thanks to
@olsonplanner
I’ll be saving nearly 9K in interest with $0 monthly payment with a quick online form.
Just really enjoying my rotation in emergency medicine. Every single shift I leave feeling like we made a difference for at least one patient and that’s pretty incredible 🥹
What is a competitive STEP 2 or LEVEL 2 score for an aspiring EM applicant? Debating moving my exam up a week based on current practice tests and current level of burnout… 3 weeks of rotations to go + a 1.5 versus 2.5 week dedicated period.
@itsmetheHBIC
My point was that both receive on the job training in their specialty of choice, while receiving a full new grad salary. Ex: my college bestie just began as an Ortho PA and isn’t w/o supervision. I’m sorry if my tweet came off as disparaging these roles as it wasn’t my intention.
First EM rotation done! The chance to help people, first shot at diagnosing a patient, the team-based medicine, the procedural aspects!! just really really liked this one 🥰
Hey
#EMBound
3rd years!! One week from today!!
The incredible Spencer Heath will be advising on writing a personal statement and the written portions of the application.
