Not sure if this has happened before but Coach Struck coached two of the state trophies today. An absolute legend who established the culture of love that lives on.
I do not think it's possible to be as tough as Dylan Jacobs. Still sick. No workouts. Literally a last minute decision to go and he's just qualified for Nike Nationals.
Dylan Jacobs once again getting to hang with the big boys last night. A new American Collegiate 5k record in 13:11! Congrats, DJ!! You continue to amaze us.
So unbelievably proud of these guys. 7:54 and all staters!! After running the race of their lives at sectionals, they entered state as the 22 seed. Dropped :21 in two weeks, placed 9th and never stopped fighting.Devlin-Rodriguez-Slack-Calderon.
Can’t even begin to say how much this group of guys has meant to me and how much I love them. An undefeated state champion XC season followed up with a 4x8 state title and a historic mile race. More than anything, just truly good human beings who’ve inspired me on a daily basis.
Proud & excited to announce Ben & Will Giblin have signed NLI with
@IlliniTrackXC
. Two of the toughest, most dedicated and enjoyable athletes we’ve ever coached. So excited the great
@IlliniCoachHav
will be working with them the next few years! Congrats, boys!
8 consecutive years all state in the 4x800. So many workouts, team huddles, individual legs, baton exchanges, final 100 m pushes...

Love wins.
Our 4x800 from last night ranks 3rd in the United States. It is also continuing a streak of sub 8:00 for us every year since 2006. Qualified for state 13/15 years. That’s a lot of relay legs fighting for each other.
So proud of this team! Entered the season unranked and out of the top 30. Only one senior out for the team this summer. They never flinched at any challenge and were relentlessly focused on internal development. The byproduct was SWSC, IHSA Regional titles and a state berth.
In the longest school year of all time, the last act belongs to the Sandburg boys of endurance. Five state medals that will gather dust while their character will only grow richer with time. We love this crew.
Nico Calderon diving for the final all state spot in the 4x800. Those four guys raced with a lot of heart and were racing for much more than themselves.
Today we had a workout with uncertainties and unknowns and had to keep trying. That’s what this moment calls for: to deal with the uncertainties and unknowns and keep trying.
I love this team. You inspire me.
Dylan Jacobs finishes a phenomenal season with a 10th place finish and All-American status against an unusually deep field. So proud of DJ. That was one tough race!
Sean Torpy wins both 1500 and 800 NCAA heats, Chris Torpy and Denis O'Callaghan also move on in the 1500. Dylan Jacobs places well and gains some valuable experience as a true 18 yr old freshman. We watched it all before dinner, during dinner and during our team meeting.
First races at Detweiller: Declan Tunney, 171st, 18:53. Brock Rice 214th, 19:18 open race. Sean Marquardt 89th, 17:14, F/S.
Today: 5th,19th,20th in state, 14:29, 14:48, 14:49. All State.
In their first meet indoors as a member of the Fighting Irish, Dylan Jacobs and Matthew Carmondy both place in the top-three of the 3,000m!
